Work Text:

Allura took a deep breath and entered the lounge where Keith had gathered the others. She was now wearing a loose pink dress and a light blue sweater. Keith sent her an encouraging smile from where he sat next to Shiro.

Keith had informed the others that she wished to explain what happened during their captivity and that they were to hold their tongues until she finished.

Allura had no idea what to say so she decided to take a cue from Keith and be direct and not beat around the bush. “The mad scientist tried to impregnate me with Keith’s DNA,” Allura blurted, “And it worked. I’m pregnant.”

Allura looked at the others and was met by blank stares. That is until Lance exploded, “You’re what!!?”

Keith stood to the side in the infirmary as Coran used the Altean equivalent of an ultrasound device on Allura. She had insisted that he be there so he could see his baby.

“And there’s the little beauty,” Coran said as the baby appeared on the screen. Keith’s breath caught in his throat at the first image he had seen of his baby. “We should be able to tell the gender by noon,” Coran told them, “If you wish.”

Allura looked at Keith, “I don’t know if I could stand not knowing,” Keith admitted.

“Agreed,” Allura replied.

~

What are you doing?” Allura asked Keith as she sat down beside him.

“Making a list of names I like. You should make one too, that way we can go through each other’s lists,” he told her.

“That’s a good idea, but maybe you should consider adding some more boy names,” Allura suggested. Keith’s list was primarily girls’ names. It was clear that the few boy names he included were afterthoughts as they were written in a different color of ink.

Keith flushed, “I guess I just really, really want a girl.”

Allura laughed, “So do I. Though I never expected you to. It’s kind of hard to imagine that a tough guy like you would want a little girl. I could almost swear you were going soft on us,” she teased nudging him playfully.

“Am not,” Keith muttered. It’s kind of hard to go soft if you’re already soft, Keith thought to himself not that he would ever admit that aloud. “Well, anyway, I was wondering if it would be okay if the baby slept in my room?” Keith asked shyly twiddling his thumbs.

“I don’t have a problem with that, but we should see about moving you to a room with a nursery attached,” Allura replied. If she was completely honest, she had been worrying about how possible loss of sleep would affect her decision making and Keith had unknowingly taken a weight off her chest.

“K,” Keith replied, “Coran’s going to take me to the space mall for baby stuff once we know the gender… you wanna come?” Keith asked shyly.

Allura sighed, “I wish I could but Coran insists I stay aboard the Castle.”

“Oh,” Keith said sounding disappointed.

“But when you come back, we can go over our name lists together,” Allura reassured him.

Keith’s expression brightened slightly, “Still wish you could come through,” Keith confessed he had been looking forward to spending time with that much was obvious.

“That’s sweet of you,” Allura said and leaned into him for an instant just long enough to kiss his cheek. He could still feel the warmth of her body against his as she stood up and left. As she left Allura turned her head slightly and saw that he had sheepishly melted into the couch. Wondering what in the world was going on in that head of his, Allura headed to her room to start on the list.

The baby much to Keith and Allura’s delight turned out to be a girl. After Keith and Coran’s return, Allura found herself in front of the door to Keith’s new room, list in hand. Keith’s new room, to Lance’s chagrin, was much larger than the others even without including the attached nursery or bathroom. Allura knocked on the door. “Come in!” Keith called out. Opening the door, Allura stepped in, and to her surprise, the room was beautifully decorated, and the built-in bookshelf was completely filled. He also had a desk in front of a large window looking out into space and a few soft-looking couches made a nice sitting area. The one thing that didn’t surprise her was how organized he was. She figured Coran must have given Keith permission to scour the Castle for furniture.

She found him in the attached nursery, which he had evidently painted a soft pink. Keith was putting soft, light purple bedding with lacey edges on a masterfully carved and crafted wooden crib. Three-dimensional flowers were carved onto the top of the posts. The crib itself was painted periwinkle while the flowers, the 3d ones, and the ones carved 2d once carved into it, were pink.

Allura breathed, “Oh, Keith, it’s beautiful!” she exclaimed admiring the crib, “Where in the world did you find such a beautiful crib?”

Keith blushed and rubbed the back of his neck as he straightened up, “I didn’t, I made it myself,” he confessed. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Mind?! Why would I mind?! It’s beautiful! I didn’t know you were a craftsman. Did you paint it yourself?” Allura asked.

“Yeah,” Keith replied.

Allura looked at him, “I didn’t know you were artistic, these flowers almost look real,” she commented.

“It’s not a big deal,” Keith said shyly as he brushed his bangs out of his eyes.

Allura chuckled, “Oh, I brought my list, I thought we could go over names,” she said handing him the list. Keith smiled and grabbed his list off of a cute cubie filled with baby toys and books. He handed it to her. She smiled and took the list.

Keith read the list the looked up, “Pipsi, I like that.”

Allura smiled, “I like most of the names on your list,” she said trailing her fingers across the names, “Which one do you think goes best with Pipsi?” she asked.

“Amora,” Keith replied, “Pipsi Amora.”

“What does that name mean?” Allura asked.

“Love,” Keith replied.

“Pipsi means little, so little love,” Allura smiled, “I like that. Pipsi Amora it is then.”
