Shiro contacted the team in order to help them with a mission. They must go undercover to a planet to figure out if Zarcon’s allies are planning on rioting and destroying their so carefully installed peace.
Keith is really happy to go to this planet until he is told with whom he shall be attending."me? His body guard? Are you serious?" Keith asked as calmly as possible.
"ME? WITH MULLET? REALLY?” Lance yelled.
"Oh god give me patience" Shiro sighed.
And without much option the bickering pair was sent out to space, just like old times.
But after learning a secret he wasn’t meant to, and with old feelings making their way back into the very tip of his fingers, Keith and Lance’s relationship starts to change.

Summary
Stranded on the planet Surtur, Keith rescues Lance from Galra's hold on impulse, going against Shiro and Allura's orders and hijacking the Black Lion. With the Galran ship only yards in front of him, he jumps into the wormhole with his Lion and sets off to save Lance, but when the Galra ship shoots down the Black Lion, he ends up stranded on the planet with Lance. The Planet is slowly deteriorating, meaning that they won't survive much longer if they don't find a way out, so they set aside their differences to work together, that's until they realize there isn't much difference in the first place.
"Keith," Lance calls, glancing over at the other, who was seated across the campfire, "Why did you come save me?" Keith's eyes waver suddenly, hands clenching the gray sand from the planet's surface. "T-The others were worried about you." He stutters, purple eyes avoiding eye contact with Lance. The brunet smiled half-heartedly, rubbing his knees with his palms. "Oh, yeah. Stupid question."

Fucking Keith was a lot like fighting with him, Lance found, and since they’d been having sex, their arguments were basically reduced to zero. They were on the same page more now than ever before. It made leading the team so much easier because when they did have a disagreement, they weren’t arguing about it in front of everyone else. Instead, they’d compromise, and then later, they’d fuck until they were finished being mad at each other.
Personally, Lance thought it was a great solution.

Aternatively: Lance feels like the 7th wheel and misses Keith, the team doesn't help in the slightest. Lance doesn't want to appear weak so he doesn't say anything, and lets his friends talk down on him. His friends' words hurt his mind and soul, that is until they actually lead to something much worse.
But maybe one person can change everything. Wonder who that one might be? -
