Keith Kogane is hot-headed, rebellious and dangerous. He flies by the seat of his pants with no regard for his safety, or the safety of his fellow cadets. He struggles to conform to the strict culture of the Garrison Flight Academy, with a reputation to his name for being a completely insatiable thrillseeker, an adrenaline junkie. Not only does he not follow the rules of flying, but he's outspoken and snappy. He bites, and he's not afraid to go fist to fist to put people in their place.
Lance McClain is everything that Keith isn't. He's the academy's "Golden Boy". He's annoyingly charming, popular and obedient. He gets to where he wants to be in the academy by playing by the rules, showing up and doing the work. However, Keith's ability to sail through each training session through the use of dangerous and careless maneuvers never fails to piss Lance off.
It doesn't help the situation that Keith finds Lance impossibly attractive, but who is Lance when he's not performing for a crowd? Keith begins aching to claw past Lance's facade and see him for who he really is.

It's been a year and a half since Lance and Keith broke up, and eight months since Keith moved in with his new fiance, Lotor.
Lance had only met Lotor a few times, but every time he couldn't shake the feeling that he was bad news. He'd mentioned it to Keith, but Keith had just shrugged him off, blaming the fact that they were exes, and suggesting they don't talk for a while, maybe a month or so.
Then a month turned into two. Two months turned into five. And now Lance hasn't heard from or seen Keith in eight months. Which, fine, Lance could live with that, but none of the others had heard from him in maybe six months.
That was until Keith showed up at his doorstep, looking like he'd been through hell.
