Steve threw himself from side to side, the sheets tangling around him as he huffed in annoyance. Robin being gone from his small apartment left it near impossible to sleep. It shouldn't be this bad, no one ever stayed the night at his place before Robin. Even when he was seeing Nancy, overnights were only ever at her place.
But that relationship was long gone. Her determination, her confidence, his strength, his… Steve froze and shook his head, he had to stop. The streetlight he could see from his window flickered and he stiffened. All hopes of sleep were gone.
It was a rare night that he hadn't been able to see Argyle after school and Jonathan was beginning to realize how reliant he had become on him and his supplies in order to blackout. There was no other word for it cause it wasn't proper sleep, that was long gone.
He lay on his stomach on his nearly stripped bed, the California heat keeping his panic far too high as he had one arm stretched out into the empty space beside him. Jonathan squirmed slightly as his eyes drifted past the empty space to his camera bag, still untouched.
Nancy wasn't even bothering with her bed anymore, sitting on her bedroom floor as she practised taking apart and putting together the handgun Hopper had given her. She could hear snuffling behind her. Mike had reverted to sneaking into her room at night again like after the first time and Holly still tended to try and find him after nightmares.
But even hearing her siblings alive and well couldn't lure her to sleep anymore. She quickly connected another piece together as she looked up to see the cold moon silver shining above. Nancy hated feeling so small, especially after everything.
Everyone was exhausted after reconvening in Hawkins following the events of Spring Break. No one wanted to be separated, so air mattresses and sleeping bags were spread out in the basement. Robin all but fell onto one of the mattresses, dragging Steve down with her. He reached out to snag at Jonathan's borrowed shirt to get him to lie down too. Jonathan snatched Nancy's ankle as she paced next to them, a gentle tug bringing her finally down as she allowed him to curl around her.
Argyle had spread out on one of the sleeping bags by their heads, his quieter muttering and the other older teens' responses providing white noise as Nancy finally drifted off to sleep. Robin and Argyle quickly followed and Jonathan could feel Steve's arm he had been laying on twist slightly as Steve started running his fingers through Jonathan's hair. There was quiet counting as he listened to Steve count the kids, stumbling slightly over the missing Max. It took a couple more tries before he finally faded out, right on queue as Robin's chest started faintly rumbling.
Quiet steps came down the stairs and Jonathan lifted his head slightly to see his mom and Hopper looking over the group. His mom locked eyes with him, raising an eyebrow. He pulled Nancy slightly closer, curling closer towards Steve as he did. She smiled, turning to Hopper to tap on his chest. Hopper made some sort of gesture with his arm towards them, but the tap turned into a push. Jonathan watched as they disappeared back upstairs, closing his eyes as he felt himself sink into the quiet breathing and snores around him. For once, everyone downstairs slept through the night.
