Ethan was at the break room (after decades of field work he finally opted to work at the IMF HQ and teach trainees and applicants) when,
"Hey, Hunt! Long time."
Ethan looked over his shoulder. One of his past colleagues, William Brandt, was making his way towards him.
"Hey. Corner office?"
Brandt shrugged. "I've had enough action to last a lifetime. Carter's here, too."
Right on cue the woman in question appeared, giving both men a brief hug.
"Ethan! Never thought I'd see the day you'd be here. Finally done?"
Ethan chuckled. "I don't want to die in the field."
Jane hummed. "Oh, I just remembered. You heard about the newest applicant?"
Ethan shook his head. "No. Who is it?"
At that Brandt jumped in the conversation. "How could you not hear about it? She's been the talk of the office."
"She?"
"Yeah. Brit, a bit on the tall side. All the guys-"
"And some of the girls," Jane interjected with a grin.
"-are practically drooling."
Ethan took a sip of his coffee to hide his smile, already having an idea of who the person was.
"Hello, stranger." A voice purred behind him, and he saw Brandt's and Jane's mouth widen in shock. Ethan smiled turning.
"Agent."
Ilsa hugged him with surprising strength.
"Oh, I missed you." She murmured, before stepping back to kiss Ethan. A mug shattered behind them, and they turned. Jane was frozen, eyes wide, her cup in pieces before her feet.
"Right. Ilsa, meet Agent William Brandt and Agent Jane Carter. Guys, meet Ilsa Faust, my...girlfriend."
At that Brandt choked on his drink, and Jane pounded his back to help him swallow the liquid.
"Girlfriend?" Brandt said when he recovered.
"Is there a problem with that?" Ilsa demanded. Silence.
"Have you talked to the Director yet?" Ethan asked.
Ilsa shook her head. Not yet, no. That's why I looked for you first, since I don't know my way around here."
"All right, let's go. See you guys around?" Ethan said.
The last thing the two of them heard was Jane murmuring "Ethan has a girlfriend."
