Summary
Cosmic forces grappling the upper part of her body forces the hunter down to her knees. Her brain swells and pulsates to the rhythm of an ancient god’s heartbeat, her own heart struggling against the imprisoning encapsulation of the pericardium to break free of mortal confinements. She tugs at the cloth at her chest in some meagre attempt to relieve her body’s recoiling of its fleshy form, but no amount of that or tearing at the skin of her scalp will ever grant her peace.
Many of her muscles that have tensed to the intrusion release as the unseen creature exhales, allowing her body to collapse onto the overgrown walkway and let the chill surface of limestone cool her burning cheeks. But for all the relief that comes with release, her time in imprisonment has not ended. The Great One’s heart beats not only in her brain but around her as well, impossibly echoing from still deep beneath her. Even her breaths turn shallow, mocking the beats’ rhythm to the detriment of her air supply.
