Summary:

Pearl did not want to be here right now. Her stage fit was fine as it was. She didn’t understand why they needed to change their image so much. Pearl bit her lip as she looked into the mirror. She pulled at the dress’s collar. It was strangling her neck, and the huge-ass zipper had her about to tip over tentacles over feet. This was not her.

“Ok,” Marina called out, from behind the dressing room curtain. “I’m coming out.”

Pearl couldn’t even imagine what they had done to Marina.

Pearl whirled around, and—

Oh, shit!

Marina slunk out from behind the blue velvet curtain, a shy look on her face. All Pearl's thoughts of her own dress went out the window.

Damn.

Pearl and Marina at a fitting. Were the outfits really that cute or were they just yearning for each other?

Work Text:

“You like?” Their stylist asked, adjusting her glasses. “The large zippers are of the custom.”

Their new stylist, a very… proper jelly had brought them in for their very first fitting. No more cheap clothes, they would only be wearing the freshest designs from now on.

Pearl eyed herself up in the mirror as she waited for Marina to step out. The white dress they’d put her in was too long for her short legs, too big for her small chest, as most things always were. She bit her tongue. She wasn’t used to wearing shit this girly. “Uh… yeah,” she called back to the stylist, who was busying herself with Pearl’s hem, pins in arm.

Pearl whirled around, and—

Oh, shit!

Marina slunk out from behind the blue velvet curtain, a shy look on her face. All thoughts of her own torture dress went out the window.

Damn.

Pearl’s breath hitched as she took in the sight of Marina. They had her in a shiny black crop top with a plunging neckline. A large silver zipper was attached, matching the gold one on Pearl’s own dress. Her shorts were low on her waist, revealing her belly button piercing, the shadow of her hip bones, hugging her curves in all the right places. Her legs were long, so long, and the heeled boots made her even taller. The turquoise on her tights matched her tentacles, and all the black made her eyes shine, despite their tinge of anxiety.

"Does it... look ok?" Marina asked, tugging on the waistband of her shorts. She bit her lip, tucking a tentacle behind her ear.

Fuck, did it look ok? Pearl thought she looked good. No, Pearl thought she looked great. Nah, nah, that wasn’t even cutting it, Pearl realized as she continued to sweep her eyes across Marina’s outfit.

“Pearl?”

“I—” Fuck, what were words when Marina was standing there, looking like that, and her cheeks were flushed, and she was smiling, now, her lips parting in a grin, and how did that fit her so well when they hadn’t even gotten anything tailored yet, and—“I— wow, Marina, you…” Pearl managed to swallow, somehow. “You look sick! Totally, uh, dope.”

Dope was not the right word to use in this situation.

Marina’s mouth shaped itself into a little ‘o,’ and she gasped. “Oh!”  she shook her head. “You, Pearlie, you—you look great too, you look so great, you are so cute , and—”

“Cute?” Pearl interrupted.

“Your outfit!” Marina corrected, her tentacles--which were long now, a far cry from what they were from when Pearl had first met her--snaking around her toned arms. “Your outfit is so…cute…”

Pearl disagreed. “You think?” she mumbled, cocking a brow.

Marina nodded, maybe a little too enthusiastically. “Yes! I mean, the dress looks aerodynamically sound for--for dancing, and the boots elevate you so our heights are evened out, because I’m also wearing these,” she pointed to her own boots, “so, you’re—it’s perfect! They’re… perfect.”

Their stylist chuckled from the corner, and their heads snapped around.

“Well, I didn’t put quite that much thought into them, but I suppose you’re right, Miss Ida.” She hummed as her eyes slid across the two of them. “Miss Ida, the fit is alright?"

Marina nodded. “Yes, the…style may take some getting used to, miss, but I—it feels ok.”

It definitely looked more than ok.

"Hmm, Miss Houzuki, you will need some alterations. Thankfully, I’ve already marked ‘em down, so you two should be good to go! Get changed and you can get back to your busy lives. Thanks for coming in today.”

Pearl looked over to Marina, who flashed her a hesitant smile, her eyes lighting up. It hit Pearl then that she would have to perform next to Marina wearing that almost ever night.

She was completely, totally, royally, screwed.
