Next To Me

Summary:

Short drabble on Jesper’s reasoning behind giving Wylan a key, based on the Deleted scene.

Notes:

This series is a part of the Wesper Week 2023, initiated over on tumblr.
Personally I’m really excited for it and all of the fanworks =D

So, Day 1, based on the prompt Key.

2 drabbles for the price of 1.
Wrote a drabble, liked it well enough, but wanted to challenge myself to make one that was actually 100 words, since that is technically the definition of a drabble.
So I re-wrote it until I had one that was 100 words, but didn’t want to scrap the longer one either, so instead I kept both of them.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Making Wylan the key had been an impulse decision on Jesper's part. Ever since the fold and seeing Wylan thrown against the wall Jesper hadn’t wanted to let Wylan out of his sight.
There had been a nervous thrum under Jesper’s skin that didn’t go away until he was back in his room at the Slat, with Wylan tucked up against his side.
It finally felt right.
Wylan calling it moving in had made Jesper nervous, not because he didn’t want it, but because the words themselves hadn’t fit with Jesper’s reasons.
Jesper had simply wanted Wylan there with him.

----------

Making Wylan the key had been somewhat of an impulse decision on Jesper's part. Ever since the fold and seeing one of those shadow monsters throw Wylan against the wall Jesper hadn’t wanted to let Wylan out of his sight.
There had been a nervous thrum under his skin as they returned to Ketterdam that he never managed to figure out, but it went away once Wylan accepted Jesper’s invitation to stay the night with him at the Slat.
It had been obvious that Wylan hadn’t been as excited about being back, but Jesper had been too high off of being home again after a successful heist, with a cup of cider in his hands and Wylan tucked up against his side, to let it bring him down.
It had all just felt too right.
Then when it became clear why Wylan wasn’t as happy, that he didn’t feel like this was home, Jesper felt like the answer was obvious.
Making him a key would mean he wouldn’t have to let Wylan out of his sight, he wouldn’t have to worry about Wylan in that drafty workshop of his with all of those chemicals made for destroying things.
Wylan’s words had made it all feel too big though, Jesper still very much wanted it, he just hadn’t thought of it as Wylan moving in with him. Not in those words.
To Jesper it had just been about wanting Wylan there.
