“I prefer this one. She’s cute.” Suna pointed at a picture of someone with long hair and pink ribbon on her hair. She was cute, indeed. Might be better without a fact that Suna had been saying that to a million pictures before.
“Who cares about the looks. Love is blind. If they suck then they suck, if we love them then we love them no matter how suck they are. You know what I’m saying.” Aran picked his phone off Suna’s face and scrolling the screen once more. They were looking at a twitter account of their school for gossip they missed from yesterday.
“Even that ugly ass Osamu got a girlfriend.” Atsumu mumbled, crushed the innocent pack of his empty potato chips and aiming for the trash bin. He failed miserably, hit the side and it bounced pretty far to the field under the stairs.
“Oh, it’s official? I thought she just has crush in him on something.” Aran bemused, then rolled his eyes. “And in case you forget, you got the same exact face. Is that why you’ve been a little pain in the ass since the morning.”
“Language.” Kita warned. “And Atsumu, pick your trash.”
It was a bad luck after a bad luck. Last night, he went home drenched in rain and got headache, didn’t wake up when his alarm went off and of course Osamu didn’t bother to wake him up. He forgot his homework he planned to do, he was being sent off for only one subject to stand on the hall but his rage refuse to subside he stayed outside till lunch break. That was why his whole gang here. It wasn’t helping that he saw Osamu with a girl going somewhere. He knew it was just a one-sided since Osamu has a certain type but still. Atsumu wasn’t in the mood to see his brother happy right now.
“Why? I thought you got confessions pretty often. First year are all going ‘Miya-saaaan’ every time we walk by.” Suna had his hand all up like a general reporting to the king it made them laugh. Truth to be told, he actually did get a lot of attention and affection from many students in his school, boys and girls. But it was all begin to wear him out. The communication always one sided, they always agree on anything he said, Atsumu prefered to think him as the cult leader and they were his following or something.
“See? Looks don’t really matter. Even the Shimizu Kiyoko got rejected. The Shimizu Kiyoko!” Aran didn’t forget to emphasize his words and flowing his phone around.
“No fucking way.” Suna grabbed Aran’s phone of his hand. “I’ll even want to sell my new shoes to go out with her.”
While his friends were fuzzing over the hot issues, Atsumu threw his gaze around. Some kids playing foolball, some kids reading under the trees, some of them sitting on the grass with their lunches. He saw Ushijima Wakatoshi, the president of student council waking alone. All tall, big, and serious. And alone. Behind him was a bunch of average looking boys playing and laughing, one of them had his tears on his eyes, bending over and holding his stomach, must be because of how much they were joking. Yeah, who cares about look. Ushijima had all in him, looks, money, power, but he couldn’t even make friends.
He caught Osamu walking towards them from the corner of his eyes, all grinning and shit. He didn’t want to deal with that today. He would be all annoying and his friends there were not going to help.
Throwing his hand on the chair handle, he stood up, ignoring all the questions behind. His destination was the gym, maybe playing volley or basket for a while could calm his crumpled mind. The last thing he heard was Kita told him to take his trash, so he did. He stumped to the other side of field, realizing how far the dust bin was and how stupid he was for trying to throw it there. He didn’t spare any glance around him, so when he bend down to take his trash that was right in the middle of stairs, he didn’t aware someone was above him. The person stopped abruptly on the last stair, taking his one leg back up.
Atsumu wasn’t really in a good mood to being kind and all, so he was just about to ignore it and leave. But something, something , was it the wind , tickling his mind to looked up.
“I’m so-“
And he almost regretted a time of his life for eternity. He gulped, “..ry.”
He got a simple answer, “It’s okay.”
“Tobio-kun.” Atsumu finally had his first smile for today.
Tobio tilted his head slightly but then looked down at his front uniform where his name tag stick on it. He nodded at him, before he glanced at Atsumu’s chest and found nothing in it.
“I could tell you if you want.” He grinned. He never had to introduce himself in any occasions, but he let that side for now.
“No thanks.” And with that, Tobio passed by him like he was nothing, walking the same direction as Atsumu before, unaware of pair of eyes following him like a bloodhound.
They looked at Atsumu. Atsumu looked at them.
“Shut up.” He barked, and another laughter broke out in the hot summer breeze.
“I think I’ve seen him him before.” Suna mentioned for the uptenth time but still couldn’t recall where he saw Tobio before. They were headed towards their class since lunchbreak was over. Suna had Aran pinkie promised to tell him everything if he got a word about Tobio.
Tobio wore a yellow strip on his sleeve, so he was a first grader. That was all Atsumu knew. Aside from his name, of course.
“What’s his name again?” He felt Suna nudged him when they arrived in class.
“I didn’t tell you his name. Now stay away from me.” Atsumu hissed, forcing Suna to fly away to his own chair in the corner back.
Atsumu flopped down in his chair, his leg one up on another, moving his feet real fast. His hand just the same, he kept hitting his pen on his book impatienly, like he was waiting for something. His sitting mate was going uneasy, kept glancing but not saying anything. Atsumu looked aside, his eyes fell down at the blue strip on his friend sleeve, a mark for second grade student. He had been having this mark on his sleeve for few months now. Funny how he didn’t realize what shade of blue it was. At first, or at least until five minutes ago, it was just blue. And now it wasn’t just blue.
All of sudden he sprinted his way out of his class without a word. He forgot he had a really bad day today, he forgot his still stiff legs after stand up for nearly an hour, he forgot he wanted to murder Osamu, but he clearly remember like a crystal clear where he should be right now.
Well, one thing Atsumu cleary forgot too, was how popular he was. Having himself walked in front of each first grader class, looking for a familiar face wasn’t as easy as winning fight against Osamu at all. It was like the valentine day again except today there were a cup ramen, a bag of candies and chocolates, and oh his favorite potato chips. In any ordinary day, he would glady accept it. But he had a more important task to do. In the end he only got a bottle of instant coffee cause someone had shoved it in his pocket without him noticing.
Tobio was putting his lunchbox inside his locker when Atsumu saw him. He got too happy to see his face again that he didn’t realize Tobio’s teacher was approaching near. Atsumu tried to buy time from him, using the coffee in his pocket as bribe. He got five minutes. Finally his skill to negotiate literally everything in his life for having a twin had it purpose.
Atsumu didn’t hear what the teacher said but he could see Tobio classmates were looking at him cherring and whistling. By the time Tobio came outside, his face was all pink.
“Can I help you?” A trace of confusion in his voice.
Atsumu grabbed something from his trousers pocket and hand it to Tobio. It was his name tag.
“I want you to keep it. I’ll take it after school.”
“Why?” Tobio asked, but he took it anyway. Unconsciously trailed his thumb on the letters. Atsumu noticed it.
“Well, to be honest, I don’t even know myself. It just feel like that’s the right thing to do. Right now.”
They heard the teacher shouting two minutes from behind, following by laughter.
Tobio looked back in embarassement. “Okay then. You have to go.”
“Wait, it means you’re not seeing anyone, right?” Atsumu in low voice.
“Should’t you ask me that first?”
“In my defense, I’ve been planning our marriage since the first time I saw you, which is exactly sixteen minutes and twenty seconds ago,” he took a quick glace at his watch, “and counting.” He had a nerve to shrug his shoulders as if he hadn’t just flip Tobio’s world upside down.
Tobio rolles his eyes, “Okay, I’m not. Now go.” He shushed him away, expecting him to listen.
Instead of walk away, Atsumu stepped up to the door and peeked inside. “Goodbye everyone, and thank you!” He yelled and waving his hand, like a freaking cult leader. Tobio widen his eyes, couldn’t believe what he just witnessed. Couldn’t even more believe what just happened, when Atsumu whispered in his ear right in front of everyone. Just a simple thank you but it managed to make Tobio as red as tomato now. Atsumu ran backwars in the hall while screaming see you later for all people to hear.
