“We’re pregnant?!? How is this even possible?!”
Marinette swirls Cass around as the two share a moment of glee. Cass receives a passionate kiss as Marinette runs out of the room to grab the kwami to share the news.
Marinette had been feeling sick the past week. She figured it would be safe to get a test, just in case. After all, there was a possibility that any of the miraculous she has wielded besides the Ladybug had left a lastly effect she did not know about.
Instead of questioning the logic any further, Marinette decides to enjoy the news with her girlfriend and pile of kwami. They celebrate to the highest degree.
The months zoom by before the couple could even realize. The two spent time gathering clothes and supplies for the child as they waited for the ultrasound. It was tearjerking, to say the least, as the two learned that they were expecting twins.
The twin boys arrived successfully. Friends and family gathered to meet the healthy twins. Ash and Violette were the spitting images of their mothers.
In most cases, this would be the most adorable heartwarming thing. However, two months later, it would become a reminder that nobody could fight.
See, Marinette did not get pregnant through natural magic or as a side effect from a miraculous. It was the doing of Cassandra herself. In the dead of night, she snuck into the box, took Duusu and consulted with the kwami.
They told her that was indeed possible for the kwami to give the roommates a child. There would be no repercussions either since Marinette was a true ladybug and her connection to the kwami of creation would negate any side effects from using their miraculous to do so. However, they did warn that the trick could only work once as using it more than once could be dangerous to the one who uses their miraculous to create a life.
Cass was happy with those terms and decided to use the miraculous to give her roommate the child she so desperately wanted. Nobody could have foreseen the couple having twins. Duusu hid themselves away when they heard the news from Marinette. They knew what it meant.
Exactly two months after the twins’ birth, Cass fell into deep sleep. She hid herself as far away as possible when it happened but that only delayed the news another three months. In fact, it was Marinette that found Cass and she knew the second she saw Cass’s lifeless body what it meant. The tears could not be stopped.
When Marinette finally got the tears to subside. She called the family to let them know Cass had been found. There was a striking amount of discourse about how Cass had died, despite Marinette telling them exactly what it was.
Duusu was brought out of the box to explain the situation, but they couldn’t. When their miraculous was used, Cass made the kwami swear to never tell that she used them. Duusu could not break that promise. They told as much as they could though.
“A true wielder of the Peacock and a true Ladybug could theoretically have multiple children through the means of the miraculous. However, a true Ladybug with a regular wielder of the peacock can only produce one child safely. The child would completely human due to power of the Ladybug. At least, if we understand our powers correctly. There has never been a child born through the power of the miraculous before.”
This testimony was still not enough for members of the bat family. They believe Marinette forced the kwami to keep quiet and something more sinister had happened.
Understandably, Marinette packs her belongings and tries to escape the confides of Gotham. She is stopped multiple times by Bats and his posse. They try to strip the twins out of her arms, and they nearly succeed in doing so. Luckily, Robin was there to defend her, buying her enough to get out of the city.
Knowing the relationship between Bats and Superman, Marinette crosses Metropolis off her list. It was the only place on her list. She was left in a real hard spot.
In a last-ditch effort, with two crying children, Marinette falls to the kwami to guide her. They allow Kaalki to choose the path for their young guardian. Marinette wields Kaalki, opens a portal, and goes through.
The lack of energy causes Marinette’s transformation to fall as her knees buckle. She twists herself so the children would not be harmed. Yet instead of hitting the ground as she expected, she is caught by someone.
With the last of her energy, she looks into the blue eyes of the man who caught her. She would have to trust the kwami. Her eyes fall shut as exhaustion takes over her.
The kwami did indeed lead her to the place she would be the safest. It was Cass would have wanted. A place where Marinette could raise her children without judgement and with someone who could always be there for her.
She was home.
