Work Text:
The phone rings a few times within the empty apartment. Silver had forgotten his phone as the rush of getting to the grocery store in the early morning made him leave it behind. It fell silent as a new voicemail notification popped up.
(1 new voicemail from Sebek.)
“Silver! It has been far too long since you and I last spoke to one another. I received your voicemail the other day and I do apologize for not picking up the phone at the time. Jack and I were quite busy taking our wolves, London and Young Master to the vet as something was…up with London and we were afraid that perhaps Young Master would be in danger as well.”
“But there is good news! London was actually pregnant with Young Master’s pups! She had three beautiful children; Jafar, Lizzie and Grimmy. I’d like for you to meet them someday, especially Lizzie, she loves to sleep all the time while Jafar and Grimmy chase each other about the house. Although it can be incredibly chaotic especially when they go after Jack’s cacti, heh.”
“Life has been strange ever since I left the Draconia Royal Guard. I took up dental practices as my father did which is ironic, I know. I am fully aware and my father will not let me live it down. Jack opened a floral shop within the city and he always comes home with some sort of odd story like a man who swallowed an entire bouquet of roses (but that’s a story for another day). Everything has just been oddly peaceful I suppose?”
“I am unsure of how to feel. Every day when I wake up, it’s so quaint. I get out of bed, cook breakfast, kiss Jack on the cheek, head to work, it’s normal. Human. It’s…ah, I’m rambling again aren’t I?”
“I apologize for not…I know that… I’m glad you called me, Silver. I know it has only been a month but it felt like years. I know I used to give you such a hard time for everything but I do miss your company. When you left the guard I felt so betrayed but now I see why. This life feels so much more than whatever Malleus could offer you and I. I shouldn’t have lashed out at you when you decided to go.”
“I now see that the simple pleasures in life are truly the most beautiful. What I have now, with Jack and our wolves and our home, it’s what I needed.”
“Oh, I’m getting wrapped up in myself again I’m sorry. Heheh, it’s just been a lot. I would like to see you again, Ruggie and Jamil too. You’ve told me a lot about your living situation and you have a lot more patience than I ever could. I wouldn’t be able to cope if Jack kept trying to steal my shirts at every convenience he had. At most he uses my favorite mug for tea.”
“I couldn’t bear living in an apartment either but oh Seven, the mortgages. Oh Seven the mortgages! I forgot to-”
Sebek suddenly cuts off as someone interrupts over the phone. It wasn’t hard to figure out it was Jack. “Calm down, you handled the mortgage.”
Relief manifested in Sebek’s tone. “Oh, aha, I did. I think all the work is finally catching up to me.”
“Sorry,” Jack apologized. “Am I interrupting your call?”
“Not at all. I’m just leaving a message for Silver. Did you want to say anything?”
“Uh, sure.” The wolf beastman moved in a little closer and his voice grew louder. “Hey Silver, please tell Ruggie to stop coming over to the shop to eat plants. It’s harmful for the business and it’s not impressing anyone.”
“It was Ruggie?” Sebek asked.
“Yes.”
The half fae chuckled to himself. He continues talking to the phone. “Well you heard him, Silver. But genuinely? Everything has been so nice and wonderful and…it’s okay. I’m okay. And I hope that perhaps you and I will make amends. I have to go now-Lizzie! Lizzie! Lizzie no-! Yeah I have to go! But come by Silver! Jack and I would appreciate it!” He hastily hung up to prevent a disaster involving a now active pup.
