Evelyn sighed. She was tired, it had been a long boring night. She wanted to go to bed. It wasn’t dawn yet so she still had a while of waiting. A part of her hated the aesthetic preference of her girlfriend wanting to sleep in a padded coffin. She couldn’t deny it was comfy, but without her girlfriend it was just weird. Weird, too big, and lonely.
A slam from somewhere in the house gave her hope. Maybe it wouldn’t take until dawn for her to get some sleep. It would mean she woke up with the sun still out though. At least it was nice to be wrapped in large arms the whole time. Happily watching the sleeping face of someone she loves. Even if that sleep was a little worrying sometimes.
“Ev?” Conny called. Evelyn looked up, smiling at the spot her girlfriend should appear. The smile died as soon as she saw the blood left on Conny’s lips and mud on her face. “You didn’t have to wait up.”
“Can’t sleep in here alone. Go get cleaned up before coming to bed,” Evelyn smiled. Conny gave her a look, shifting her size to tower over her. A hand as big as Evelyn’s head cupped her cheek.
“Tonight was rough. More humans staying in the lit areas. The ones I lured I had to chase. I’m worn out and just want to hold my warm love, you’ll really make me wait for that?”
Evelyn pouted, Conny had way too many ways to convince her to give in. That didn’t mean she was going to happily curl up with someone covered in mud. She pushed herself up, the hand cupping her face tensed, but followed her. Evelyn glared up at the vampire she loved. They were not dealing with a muddy coffin, especially when it would be Evelyn who had to clean it up.
“Get changed now,” she crossed her arms and glared at Conny’s blue eyes. The towering vampire merely smirked.
“Are you going to make me?” Conny purred.
“I just won’t be in this coffin with you until you clean it.”
“You know how hard it is for me to do that and get the blood I need, can’t you forgive me, this once?” Conny’s hand slid down to hold Evelyn’s waist. Her other hand joined on the opposite side, completely encompassing Evelyn’s torso.
“No way, I’m not dealing with a you sized mess again.”
“But Ev… I just want to hold you until dawn comes.”
Conny’s face came close, her lips kissing Evelyn’s neck. It made the small human shiver. The vampire knew how to get her way, but that didn’t mean she always won. Evelyn had gotten herself new pajamas tonight. A set she was excited to wear around Conny. The vampire’s eyes glowed as she finally looked up and down at Ev’s body.
“I’m not getting my new pajamas ruined either. I bought them specifically for sleeping in the coffin and I’m not letting these get ruined like the last set,” Evelyn whined.
Conny growled at her. It didn’t make Evelyn back down. The two shared a look for a long time. Equal levels of stubbornness. Evelyn couldn’t imagine her life without her vampire now. Even if she was just prey the first time. The image of Conny’s massive form hunting her down still made her shudder in fear.
The shudder didn’t go unnoticed, the vampire at least twice her size started to back down. Conny looked worried, her hands slowly trailing up Evelyn’s body. Until she stopped on her shoulders. The face towering above her slowly shifted down to meet her eyes. No longer towering over her, face to face at the same height.
“Ev…” she whispered. Evelyn leaned forward, kissing the lips still stained with innocent blood. Blood needed to keep her going. Blood that was once almost hers.
“Get changed or I’m sleeping in the bed tonight,” Evelyn whispered after the kiss. Conny chuckled before pressing her forehead against Evelyn’s.
“What if I get small enough you can hold me instead?” The whisper made her shiver. “Maybe even if I change… I’ll get small for you…”
“You know I don’t mind if you’re big… I know you like it better most of the time.”
Conny didn’t say anything, pressing her head against Evelyn’s neck. It was hard to believe that this was a predator. Someone who had every intention to drain her blood. To leave her dead in a field where someone would find her eventually… maybe. Evelyn leaned her head against Conny. Pushing the warmth of her heart into the motion.
“I worry… after everything still,” Conny whispered.
“It’s hard to be scared of a softy like you,” Evelyn muttered. The vampire started to grow, arms wrapping around her. Careful to keep the muddy clothes away. Still holding her close, the cold body caused a warmth she couldn’t explain. The same warmth that stopped her death back then.
“I wouldn’t say I’m soft. Being soft would mean I didn’t get covered in mud chasing down someone again.”
“They were awful weren’t they? One of the ones you promised to try and pick out?”
“You know I wouldn’t come here a mess if they weren’t. You were the last one I chased who wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t break my promise to you.”
“Then you should get changed so we can sleep. It’s getting close to dawn.”
“I just want to hold you… please.” Conny’s voice was weak. Evelyn knew she was worried there was hidden fear again.
“Get smaller if you won’t change. I’m not cleaning the mud.”
A whine followed that. Conny pulled her head away, looking down with a sad look. Evelyn sighed, but held out her cupped hands in front of her. A smile that showed off the pristine white fangs made her shiver in a good way. Massive hands were moved to hold her own small ones. The two that were large enough to hold her entire head alone. Slowly shrinking until they started to match her. They continued to get smaller.
Soon enough the vampire was small enough to sit on her hands. Roughly the size of a porcelain doll. Conny continued to shrink though. Reaching the size of a barbie, but not quite stopping. She didn’t stop until she was only a few inches tall. Evelyn brought her close and sat back down in the coffin.
Conny looked so strange when she was this small. It was how they even started talking. The vampire touched her, but just shrunk. The warmth of Evelyn’s skin stunned her that night. It was always a bit funny to hear that she started at this height.
“You always look so cute like this,” Evelyn murmured. She loved the way Conny shivered with her voice. It was sometimes unbelievable to realize the vampire who could pick her up with one hand could also sit just shorter than her fingers. “Maybe you should hunt like this, no one would have the heart to stop you.”
“I started like that. They treated me like a mosquito,” Conny pouted. The pout was even cuter on her tiny face.
Evelyn shifted to lie on her back. It wouldn’t be hard to get one small stain of mud off her new pajamas. Conny snuggled against her chest. Not long after nipping at her fingers.
“Are you still hungry?” Evelyn laughed.
“No, your blood is just sweeter than any I find,” Conny said. The now tiny vampire looked up at her with a warm look.
“You could drink from me all you want if you’d turn me even a little.”
“You’d stop aging, stop seeing the sun. Not yet… not until I don’t have a choice. Then you can tell me if my blood is sweet too.”
“If you say so.” Evelyn pressed Conny into her chest with as much of her strength as she could. The tiny vampire wouldn’t be hurt by her, she knew that. “I wouldn’t mind.”
“If I miss it and I never saw it often in the first place, I won’t take it from you.” Conny pulled her fangs from Evelyn’s skin. A quick lick to the wound to close the bite. “Sleep well, I’ll help get the mud out tomorrow night.”
“Thank you… I love you. Even if you almost killed me when we met.”
“I’m glad you didn’t kill me after… I love you too.”
