Chapter Text

Enid could tell she was ecstatic. Her new neighbors would arrive today, after so many days of moving trucks coming and going with furniture and appliances. Her mother made a blackberry pie and said they would deliver it to the neighbors a few hours after they arrived.

Murray and Esther had already met them, Morticia and Gomez Addams, and said they were a little weird but wouldn't cause any problems. At least they thought so.

The house next to hers had not been occupied for a few years, it was dusty and a little broken, but it was fixed a few months ago at the beginning of the move. Now all that was missing was the Addams, the new residents.

Enid hoped they'd be nice, she didn't want to deal with any more homophobic neighbors, she's had enough of Miss Kimber.

"Enid! Get down here already!" Esther screamed from downstairs in the house and the girl left the room, going down the stairs and into the kitchen where her mother was. "Don't forget to get ready to see our neighbors, they've already arrived. We'll be there in an hour."

"Okay! Do you need help with something?" Enid asked, always happy and ready to help.

"Nothing you can do right, Enid."

"Oh, right. I will... I will get dressed then." The girl spoke quietly, turning around before being interrupted by her mother.

"Try not to embarrass us in front of the new neighbors with your nonsense." And then Enid nodded, even though her mother wasn't looking, and went back upstairs to her room.

Enid sighed and threw herself on her bed, staying like that for a few minutes and looking at her index finger on her left hand. Her eyes immediately filled with tears and she looked away, getting up and going to look for an outfit.

She decided to wear a loose white T-shirt and a black and white skirt. She took a quick look at the nail polish on her nightstand and grimaced, heading into the bathroom to shower.

It took Enid fifteen minutes to collect herself and wash, and when she was done she dried off, fixed her hair, applied body lotion, and got dressed. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail because she was honestly too lazy to style her hair.

As she left the room, Enid immediately heard her mother calling her name and went downstairs, picking up the pie and leaving with her parents through the front door. They reached the dark oak front door of the house and Murray knocked, breaking into a smile when Gomez answered.

"Neighbors! Come, enter! Ignore the mess, we're still tidying up a few things." The man said and they entered, noting that the furniture was all dark and the walls completely white.

"Hello, Gomez. I hope you are enjoying the house. We brought a little welcome gift." Esther said and showed Enid who was holding the pie with a smile. "This is our youngest daughter, Enid."

"How kind of you." Morticia said as she appeared, smiling at the girl. "You can bring the pie to the kitchen, dear. Come on, I'll show you where it is."

Enid followed the woman as she looked around. The house was big and she was pretty sure she would easily get lost in there if it weren't for Morticia guiding her. The kitchen was the same size as hers, and she set the pie on the counter, quickly hiding her hands behind her back.

"How old are you, dear?" Morticia asked in that gentle tone she always used and Enid felt almost compelled to hug her and cry on her shoulder.

"I'm 17 years old." She answered.

"Oh! Almost the age of my firstborn! Wednesday isn't much for socializing, but I feel like you girls would be great friends." Morticia said and Enid laughed, thinking briefly of her only friend in this entire town, Yoko.

"I'm sure yes. My best friend is a vampire, I literally had to pull her out of the closet she was hiding in to sleep in order for us to become friends." The woman laughed at that, and Enid was distracted enough to drop her hands behind her back without realizing it.

"You study at Nevermore then? It's the only school in the country that accepts vampires. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of outcast are you?"

"Yes, I study there." Enid spoke a little surprised, maybe these new neighbors are outcasts? I... I am not some kind of outcast, actually. My parents are werewolves, but I'm adopted."

"How interesting! Why did you decide to enter Nevermore?"

Enid was sure Morticia meant no offense, but she couldn't stop herself from feeling a little annoyed by the question.

"Actually I... I had an accident a year ago. I went to 3 different schools, but the wave of bullying really didn't stop because I was 'different', my only choice was to go to Nevermore." Enid explained, her voice low because she was afraid her parents would hear.

They didn't like it when Enid talked about it, they said it was a weakness.

"Oh, I'm so sorry dear. I didn't mean to upset you by bringing up bad memories." Morticia said, regret clear in her voice. The shorter girl just smiled sadly and shrugged.

"It's okay. At Nevermore people don't talk about it like they did at other schools."

Just as Morticia was about to answer, a third person appeared in the kitchen, causing the two there to turn their bodies towards her.

"Mother, did you see Thing? That disembodied hand catched my-" She stopped talking immediately when she looked up and saw an unknown person standing there, her eyes widening slightly before she took a step back. Enid noticed something moving in the girl's hair and looked closer until she noticed.

Oh

Oh God

She has black little ears!

The unknown girl flattened her ears as she looked at Enid, who had a small smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. She narrowed her eyes before looking at Morticia questioningly.

"Wednesday, this is Enid, she and her parents are our neighbors." The woman said breaking the tension that had formed there.

"Hello Wednesday! I'm glad you moved here, it's a very quiet town." Enid said smiling, hiding her hands behind her back again.

Wednesday didn't miss it.

"Hello, Enid. It's such a displeasure to meet you." Wednesday said and turned back to her mother, ignoring Enid's confused look. "Did you see Thing?"

"I haven't seen him since we got here, honey." The girl nodded and turned around, ready to leave. "Show in the living room, we'll be there with Enid and her parents."

She just nodded again and left, looking for Thing and the knife she was sure he had stolen.

Enid looked almost enchanted at the girl, noticing the black tail sticking out through a small hole in her pants. She had never seen a shifter in real life, they weren't very common.

But what is that girl? Some kind of feline?

Chapter Text

Wednesday looked at the new house her parents had bought, all dark wood and big enough to take months to fix. It was a pretty house, at least.

She got out of the car and headed for the front door, stepping inside without waiting for her parents or Pugsley and going to explore the house. She heard her parents come in, but she was too busy to care about them.

Wednesday looked around every corner of the house, looking for a place to hide when she needed it, and found the basement. It wasn't exactly a great place to hide in case a killer broke into the house, but it was a good place to hide from her parents. It was tight and cold, like a coffin, and she liked it.

After walking all the way through the house, Wednesday decided it was time to go to her room, but when she got there she immediately realized that something was wrong. She may never have come to the house, but she asked her parents to put her things in the room for her to pack when she arrived.

Her knives. That's what was wrong.

She went over to where her knives were laid out on the table and noticed that her favorite knife was missing. She looked around and saw finger prints in the dust spots. That wretched hand.

Wednesday stormed out of her room, looking everywhere she could for him. All that was left was to search the kitchen and the basement.

She went to the kitchen while looking at the floor, ready to hunt her prey, and didn't notice the presence of an unknown person there.

"Mother, did you see Thing? That disembodied hand catched my-" She stopped talking as she lifted her head, finally noticing the girl there. Her ears flattened to her head as she caught the scent of dog in the air. That girl was a werewolf.

She took a step back before she knew it, her aversion to canines kicking in. She looked at Morticia questioningly, wondering who the stranger was and what she was doing there.

"Wednesday, this is Enid, she and her parents are our neighbors." Her mother said and she looked at the stranger again, noticing that she had a small smile on her face. How disgusting.

"Hello Wednesday! I'm glad you moved here, it's a very quiet town." Enid said smiling even wider and something inside Wednesday twisted when she heard that voice. She noticed when the girl put her hands behind her back.

"Hello, Enid. It's such a displeasure to meet you." Wednesday said and turned back to her mother, ignoring Enid's confused look. She probably wasn't used to the language of an Addams. "Did you see Thing?"

"I haven't seen him since we got here, honey." Morticia said and Wednesday mentally scolded her for calling her nicknames in front of other people. She nodded and turned away when her mother called her again and sent her into the living room. Excellent.

She searched again for a while longer before deciding to take a break and go do what her mother had asked. She had a great memory, so it wasn't hard to find the living room.

The girl entered and headed for the sofa, sitting next to her father and ignoring the visitors.

"You must be Wednesday, right?" The man asked, but she just stared at him in response. "I'm Murray and this is my wife, Esther. Morticia told us that you've already met our daughter, Enid."

Again, she just glared at him in response, but shifted her gaze to Enid when he mentioned her, noticing that she had her right hand wrapped around her left hand. Strange.

"Forgive Wednesday's manner, she's not much of a talker." Gomez said laughing and Esther laughed too.

"We're not very used to it, Enid is the type to talk more than she should sometimes." The woman said, making Enid look down at her hands.

Wednesday was starting to get uncomfortable with that woman, and it was the first time they were seeing each other.

"I speak when I feel it necessary." She replied.

Tension immediately formed in the air, Esther looking at the girl as if she was a threat and Wednesday looking the same way.

"Very brave of a feline to speak like that to a werewolf." Esther said and Wednesday immediately started wagging her tail in irritation.

"Mom." Enid said quietly, but the woman didn't even bother to look at her.

"Now, now, let's all calm our spirits, shall we?" Morticia said.

"Of course, how childish of me to fight with a child." Esther said and Wednesday almost growled at her. Almost.

"Are you werewolves then? If you don't mind, where's the rest of the pack? I thought you guys lived in big packs." Pugsley asked and Enid's head immediately snapped at him so hard that she actually winced in pain.

"We have a pack, but they unfortunately moved away from us because of the Enid dramas. It's just the three of us now, but when Enid finishes school we'll go back to the pack and she'll stay wherever she wants." Esther said, drawing everyone's gazes to Enid.

"Why don't you go with them?" Pugsley asked.

"I can't be in the pack. I'm a half-breed." The girl replied.

"What do you mean half-breed?" Morticia asked the question this time.

"Enid's mother was human and her father was a werewolf. She was taken in by my wife and I when her mother died and her father was kicked out of the pack." Murray responded realizing his daughter was uncomfortable with the topic. "We still had hope that she would come out as a wolf one day, but it didn't happen. She can't stay in the pack because of that."

"This is terrible, isn't there anyone you can be with?" Morticia asked looking at Enid, who gave her a small smile in response.

"I'll probably stay at my vampire friend's house that I told you about earlier, Yoko." Enid said smiling but stopped immediately after her mother looked at her.

"You know I don't trust that bloodsucker-"

"Enid." Wednesday interrupted by getting up and going over to the girl, holding out his hand to her. "Come with me please."

Enid hesitated a little, but looked into the shifter's strangely soft face and nodded, taking her hand in her right hand and closing her left to hide it behind her back.

Esther looked at the scene in disbelief, seeing that audacious feline carry her daughter up the stairs. Murray continued the conversation, ignoring them.

Enid felt awkward as the other girl literally dragged her upstairs, away from her parents. They passed through some doors and Enid really saw how big the house was inside, until they stopped in front of a completely black door and Wednesday opened it, revealing a completely dark room and many sharp and pointed objects.

Knives.

The memories hit her hard. Her cousins laughing, the steak knife, the growls-

"Enid?" She heard Wednesday's voice and turned to her quickly.

"I'm fine! Sorry, it's just that I don't feel so comfortable in a room with so many… knives." She confessed. "But is this your room? It's beautiful!"

"Thank you. You seemed to need a break from your parents, so I brought you here." Wednesday said and placed herself in front of her, crossing her arms as her tail stopped static upwards. "Why do you let them talk about you like that?"

"What?" Enid asked confused, looking away at her.

"Your parents. Why do you let them talk about you like that?"

"They are my parents. How are they supposed to talk about me?"

"Not criticizing you to begin with. They should speak well of you to strangers, not expose you." Wednesday said, her tail wagging again.

"It's normal for parents to criticize. They just want my best." Enid said looking away.

"They really brainwashed you." The shifter spoke with a grimace.

"Why do you care? You're just my neighbor!"

Enid turned to leave, but Wednesday growled low and she stopped, startled by the sudden noise that usually meant she was in trouble at home.

"You will stay here, and you will only leave when your parents leave. Understood?" The girl said menacingly and Enid slowly turned around.

"I may be a normie but if you growl at me again I will-"

"You will what, Enid?" Wednesday moved closer, dropping her hands to her sides.

"I will... do something you won't like." Enid said and walked past Wednesday, going into her room and throwing herself back on the bed.

Wednesday just snorted and also went into the room, starting to pack things in the drawer.

"Careful, maybe there are some spiders in the bed."

"Wednesday!"

Chapter Text

Enid woke up to a light bump on the head.

She grunted and turned to her side, but she felt it again and opened her eyes. She looked around trying to figure out where she was and it hit her quickly: she was still at the Addams' house.

Enid quickly got up, sitting on the bed and looking to the side only to see Wednesday looking at her sitting in a chair.

"Good morning, Enid." She said with a bit of amusement in her voice.

"How long was I asleep?!"

"Two hours. Your parents are waiting for you at home."

"Why the hell didn't you wake me up when they left?!" Enid asked, alarmed by the situation, knowing how her mother would act. She got to her full height and straightened her skirt which was a little too high.

"It was fun listening to our mothers trying to get us out of the room. Come on, I'll walk you to the door." And then she got up, taking a key from her pocket and putting it in the door to unlock it. She had been there less than a day, how did she get the door key so fast?

Enid followed her, still groggy from sleep, through the huge house without question. They didn't see Morticia and Gomez anywhere, which was probably for the best. They reached the front door quickly and Enid looked up at the sky, noticing that it was starting to get dark.

"Try not to be so naive about sleeping in a stranger's bed next time, I could have killed you if I wanted to." Wednesday said and Enid scowled, taking it as a threat. "See you at school."

"Wait, you're going to study at Nevermore-" she tried, but before she could finish the door was slammed in her face and she sighed, walking into her own house.

As soon as she entered, Enid heard a growl and flinched visibly. Esther was on the other side of the door with her arms crossed and looking at her angrily.

"What were you thinking, locking yourself in a room with some random girl?!" She started and pulled Enid into the house by the arm, which she didn't contest even when the force used hurt more than necessary.

"I'm so sorry, I fell asleep after she showed me the room and-"

"Did you sleep, Enid Sinclair?! In a stranger's house?"

"She's not a stranger, Wednesday is our neighbor!" Enid said and let go of her mother's clutches, trying to go to the bedroom, but she grabbed her again by the collar of her shirt this time.

"Don't turn your back while I'm talking! If it were up to me, you would never leave this house, you useless pup!" Esther screamed in her face, throwing Enid into the wall and clutching her neck. "I don't want to see you with that Addams girl again, if you dare disobey me I'll cut off your other finger!"

That hurt more than any physical assault for Enid.

Tears immediately filled her eyes and she didn't stop them this time, letting them flow freely down her cheeks.

Esther seemed to realize her mistake and soften her features a little, but Enid smacked her arm and removed her hand from her neck, starting to run to her room.

"Enid, honey, I didn't mean that. Please-" Esther grabbed her left arm again, but Enid yanked it away, not noticing the deep scratches her mother's claws had caused.

"Do not touch me!" She screamed, not caring if anyone would hear, and ran upstairs, stumbling a few times and nearly falling to the ground. She entered the room and locked the door, immediately ripping off her skirt and looking for a pair of pants to wear.

Enid quickly pulled on the first pair of black pants she could find and grabbed her cell phone and white headphones. She unlocked the door and ran out of the room, ignoring her mother's screams and going outside.

The blonde ran to the yellow bicycle in front of the house and pedaled as fast as she could. She was going to Yoko's house.

Enid was arriving at her friend's house when she tripped over a rock in the path and fell, rolling on the ground a few times before coming to a stop. She looked at the bike that was now completely dented and cursed under her breath, leaving it there and walking the rest of the way.

When she arrived at Yoko's house, Enid knocked weakly on the door and was answered almost immediately by Yoko, who grimaced at the sight of her.

"What did she do this time?" The vampire asked as she pulled Enid inside, covering her with her own body to prevent her siblings from coming after them by the smell of blood.

"She- she said she would-" Enid tried to speak, but she couldn't because of her hiccups and her fuzzy head. Yoko just nodded and continued to lead her to her room, rolling her eyes as George walked past them in confusion.

"Yoko's human? What happened?" He asked and the girl just whimpered slightly in response.

"Not now." Yoko answered and reached the room, putting Enid inside and locking the door just in case. She turned to Enid who was still crying and her eyes were unfocused. "Enid, Enid, look at me. I need to tend to your wounds. What happened to you?"

"I-I fell off my bike." Enid replied, trying to focus on her friend, but her mind was racing.

Cousins, knife, blood, growls, cousins, knife, blood, growls, cousins, knife, blood, growls, cousins, knife, blood-

Her mother threatened her. She really did. She treated Enid's trauma like nothing, like drama, she didn't care what she thought. She didn't care about Enid and was going to do to her the same thing her cousins did, she would laugh while-

What a horrible mother.

Enid suddenly felt the world stop as she stopped hearing things around her and feeling a body hugging her. Yoko had put on her noise canceling headphones and hugged her. They were on the floor now.

Enid didn't hear anything for the next hour, busy just trying to calm her breathing and thoughts, until she did. She slowly pulled away from Yoko, her face sticking a little to her friend's tear-stained T-shirt, and took off her headphones.

The vampire smiled at her and she couldn't return it, but she wiped the tears from her face and sniffled.

"I'm sorry about the shirt." She said hoarsely, and Yoko would never tell her that she screamed while hugging her.

"It's okay, I don't care. Do you feel okay to tell me what happened now?" The vampire asked and she nodded, pulling away from her fully and sitting on the floor.

"We went to meet our new neighbors and I ended up sleeping in their daughter's room while she tried to get me away from my parents. My mom freaked out when I got home and she-she squeezed my neck and said she was going to cut off another finger of mine if she saw me with the neighbor again." Enid explained as briefly as possible, only now being able to feel the pain of her injuries and looking at her scraped legs and arm cut by Esther's claws. "I ran away from home and fell off my bike. I don't know where I left it."

Yoko just nodded, knowing that threatening Enid's mother wasn't the best choice at the moment. She got up and pulled Enid with her, leaving her sitting on the bed.

"I'll be right back, anything shout at me and I'll come running." Yoko said and the girl nodded, so she left the room and locked the door again from the outside, going to look for a first aid kit.

Enid sighed and lay down on her friend's bed, a headache starting to form. She must be exaggerating like she always does, her mother was just worried and wanting to protect her, she shouldn't have acted like that. Esther just has some anger issues, not her fault.

It was really her fault for sleeping at a stranger's house, none of this would have happened if she-

"Enid." Her head snapped up, seeing Yoko already back in the room and looking at her worriedly. "It wasn't your fault. Stop thinking that."

"How did you- I didn't even say anything!"

"I know you. I got here, took care of your scraped legs and you didn't even move from the pain." She said and Enid looked away in embarrassment. "Give me your arm."

"No need, it's not that bad." Enid started, but made a face as she looked down at her arm and looked away. "You're right, it's awful. Do you think I need stitches?"

"Probably. You should see a doctor tomorrow." Yoko said and she quickly shook her head. She didn't trust doctors. "All I can do for you is clean the wound and bandage it, but you could get an infection if you don't take care of it right."

"Okay, I'll think about it." Enid responded and let Yoko do her thing. When she was finished, the vampire looked at her with a furrowed brow.

"Are you sure you want to stay here today? All my brothers are at home, they are asking about the smell of blood." She spoke and Enid lowered her eyes.

"If I'm bothering you..."

"You're not." She interrupted. "I just don't know if you'll be comfortable here with so many vampires around. I know how to control myself, I don't care about your blood, but they don't."

"I really don't care about them, and if they attacked me, you protect me." Enid said smiling slightly and Yoko laughed, giving her a light punch on the shoulder.

"All right, 'Yoko's human', go to sleep. They won't come in, don't worry." Enid nodded at that, lying down on the bed again and covering herself with her friend's heavy covers.

She fell asleep quickly, having bad dreams about Esther all night.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay at school today? We can just skip class, no one will know." Yoko asked and Enid nodded, getting out of her friend's car.

They got to school without any problems, Enid's parents weren't there to scold her like they had the first time she ran away from home. She said goodbye to Yoko and went to her first class, wolf biology.

The blonde sat in her usual chair in the corner and tugged at her sweatshirt sleeve a little when she noticed the bandages in plain view. No one at school could know about the fights she had with her mother, they would try to intervene and would only make the situation worse.

It was monday, so classes passed slowly and painfully for her, and she mostly just slept. She got up when a student tapped her shoulder that it was break time and went to her locker to get some books.

What she didn't expect was to see Wednesday as soon as she closed the locker.

"Jesus Wednesday, a warning would be nice." Enid complains while the girl just looks at her with amusement on her face.

"It's more fun scaring people. I noticed what happened yesterday and would like to apologize for getting you into trouble." She spoke and started to walk beside Enid to the Quad

"No problem, it was my fault anyway. And it wasn't a big deal really, I just go overboard sometimes." Enid replied.

"I don't think so. Your mother was the one who overreacted in that situation."

They arrived at the Quad and Enid immediately looked for Yoko, going there with the cat in her wake.

"She just does what she does to protect me." Enid said at last, sitting down next to her friend and Wednesday sitting next to her.

"Brainwash." The girl said while pretending to cough and Enid huffed, turning to Yoko.

"Yoko, this is my neighbor Wednesday. Wednesday, this is my best friend Yoko." Enid introduced them.

"A cat?"

"A vampire?"

The two spoke at the same time, staring deeply into each other's eyes for a few seconds. Enid was afraid she had done something wrong but she calmed down as soon as she saw Yoko smile and Wednesday nod.

What

Ignoring Enid's confusion, Yoko pulled an apple out of her pocket and handed it to her.

"I'm not hungry. I can eat when I get home." Enid protested.

"We both know you won't. You didn't have dinner last night, eat the apple." The vampire said and Enid huffed before picking up the apple and starting to eat.

"So Enid stayed at your place yesterday?" Wednesday asked and Yoko nodded, not knowing much about what she could tell.

"She knows Yoko, she's my neighbor." Enid said with her mouth full of apple and the smaller girl patted her lightly on the shoulder.

"Don't talk with your mouth full, Enid." She said and Enid just narrowed her eyes at her before going back to her apple.

When break was over, all the girls went to separate classrooms, and Enid was grateful that Wednesday didn't ask any invasive questions. This time she was wide awake and didn't sleep in class, even making some notes in her notebook when she thought she needed to.

At the end of classes Enid went to the parking lot and looked for her bike only to remember that it was broken down somewhere unknown. She huffed in frustration and decided to walk home. It was a bit far, but that was okay, she could walk.

But before she could even leave the front of the school, a black BMW 8 series pulled up beside her. Her escape instincts went haywire before the also black glass lowered and revealed her neighbor.

"Are you going to walk home?" Wednesday asked and Enid cocked her head in confusion.

"Yes? I don't have much of a choice." She replied, seeing Wednesday's ears flattened against her head.

"Get in the car. I'll take you home." She said and Enid laughed, but stopped when she realized the other girl wasn't laughing.

"Wait, really?"

"We're neighbors, it would be rude of me not to offer you a ride when we live so close." She answered and Enid felt herself blushing, looking around and seeing some students looking at her. Shit, they were getting attention.

"Are you sure? I don't want to bother you."

"We're neighbors." Wednesday repeated and Enid nodded, hesitating a little to touch that beautiful car. Wednesday rolled her eyes and she slowly opened the car door, putting her backpack on her lap as she got in and sat down. "Put the backpack on the ground and put your belt on."

"Okay..." and so she did, startling a little when the car's automatic window closed. "Is that your car? I didn't see it in your garage yesterday."

"It was brought to me this morning. It was in another city and we couldn't bring it in."

"I didn't know you could drive." Enid said pulling the fingers of her black glove a little, not looking at Wednesday.

"I've been able to drive since I was 12, but it wasn't until last year that I was able to get my driver's license." Wednesday said and glanced quickly at the girl, noticing the movement but not saying anything.

"That's cool. I'm 17 and I barely know how to pay rent." She laughed lightly, thinking a little about how irrelevant that was.

"That is terrible."

The conversation stopped for a while, both just thinking about their own lives.

"Why did you look so worried when I pulled up beside you?"

"Huh?"

"You kept looking around. You looked worried."

"People were looking." Enid confessed.

"And?"

"I don't like attention, they probably think I'm a cheap whore or something."

"Because of the car? They're idiots then." Wednesday said and Enid chuckled.

"Yes, they are."

The rest of the drive was silent, Enid laying her head on the car window and looking out, until they arrived. She frowned as Wednesday drove right past her house and parked in her own driveway, next to her parents' car.

Wednesday just put a finger to his lips for silence and got out of the car, going to Enid's side and opening the door. Enid got out and she closed the door as quietly as possible, guiding Enid to the garage door that leads into the house.

"You can speak now." Wednesday said.

"Why am I at your house and why do I have to be quiet?" Enid whispered, following the girl as she walked up the stairs.

"If your parents' hearing is as good as mine, they would hear you if you walked into my house." She said and opened the door of her room, entering. Enid hesitated a bit, but went inside as soon as she realized there wasn't a knife in sight.

"And the reason I'm here is..."

"I want to see the condition your arm is in." She said from the back, looking for something in the drawers.

"W-what? What do you mean with-"

"I smell blood." Wednesday said come on, turning to Enid with a small white box in her hands. "I won't do anything you don't want, but please let me see your arm."

Enid nodded and sat up in bed, pulling up her sweatshirt sleeve and grimacing at the bloodstained bandage on her arm.

Wednesday took a pair of scissors and slowly cut the bandages, knowing Enid's aversion to sharp objects, and threw the remains on the floor.

She assessed the deep cuts and nodded, taking a cotton pad and soaking it in rubbing alcohol.

"This is going to hurt." She warned, but didn't look up to see Enid's look of pure panic before gently running the cotton along the edges of the wound.

"Ow!" Enid said as she gripped the blanket tightly, closing her eyes and trying to ignore the pain until it was over.

"I'd rather not know, but who did this to you?" Wednesday asked quietly and still not looking at her, her ears picking up on the sound of Enid's heart speeding up.

"My mother. Well, it was my fault actually." She shrugged. "She grabbed my arm and I pulled, she ended up scratching me with her claws."

"Why the hell did she have her claws out?"

"She loses control sometimes, that's all."

"Then it wasn't your fault. She should control herself better."

"Probably." Enid shrugged again.

"You need stitches." Wednesday spoke as soon as she finished cleaning, noting how deep the cuts were.

"I'm not going to the doctor, if that's what you mean. I've dealt with things like this before."

"I'm not suggesting a doctor, I'm suggesting myself. I'll do the stitches."

"Wait, and my consent to this?!" Enid asked pulling her arm towards her.

"There is no such thing as consent, if you don't let me do the stitches I will knock you out and do it. You choose." Wednesday looked at her, ears pricked and tail fully up.

Enid didn't know much about cat body language, but she knew that tails up meant confidence. She nodded and took a few deep breaths.

"If you knock me out, I won't feel a thing, right?" She asked really considering that option.

"All you will possibly feel is a headache when you wake up. I promise to wake you up as soon as it's over." The girl promised, getting up and walking around the bed. Enid didn't look at her, but closed her eyes and nodded.

"Okay, you can-"

Before she could finish, she was already lying on the bed like a stone. Wednesday laughed and straightened the girl, leaving her on her back and with her whole body on top of the bed.

She took her instruments and started to prepare. Surgical nylon thread, needle and a lighter. When everything was ready, she sat on the lap of the unconscious girl in her bed and started to do the stitches. There were 3 long and deep cuts, but in less than 10 minutes they were all sewn up and closed.

Wednesday took the opportunity to look at her victim.

Enid had her hair in a ponytail and a sweatshirt that was bigger than it should have been, probably Yoko's. Her mouth was open and Wednesday could see an upper front tooth with a chip missing. She wondered how this could have happened.

And then she looked down at the glove on the girl's left hand, curiosity getting to her a little when she almost took it off. She stopped herself before she could.

And then she remembered her current position.

The cat quickly got off Enid, pulling herself together before giving the girl a few light pats on the face. She noticed a few scratches on her pale face but didn't comment.

"Enid." She tried, but the girl just started snoring. She snorted and grabbed both her shoulders, shaking her hard until she opened her eyes.

"Wednesday? Is it over already?" she asked as she slowly sat up, grimacing and placing her right hand on her head. "Ow, my head hurts."

"I warned you." Wednesday said and cleared her throat, looking at the watch on her wrist. "I'm afraid it's time for you to go, your mother must be worried."

"Trust me, she always is." Enid scoffed and rose to her full height, refusing to look at her arm. "So, thanks for the ride and for stitching up my arm."

"Your welcome. If your mother bothers you again, tell me and I'll cut her throat to see if wolves regenerate as fast as the legends say."

Enid made a face, but nodded before opening the door.

"Get out through the garage, she won't be able to see you." Wednesday spoke at last and Enid left the room, trying to venture into the huge house alone. She got a little lost at first, but managed to find the garage door after a while and got out of the house. Strangely, she didn't see Wednesday's parents or brother.

Enid walked into the house silently, listening to her mother in the kitchen making food. She had probably heard Enid arrive, but she didn't say anything. When the girl was about to enter the room, a clearing of her throat made her stop in her tracks.

"Where have you been?" Murray asked from the top of the stairs, looking down at her with his arms crossed.

"I slept at Yoko's house." She answered without looking at him.

"Without asking permission?"

"Well, it's not like you were home for that." She snapped, instantly regretting it when she saw him approach.

"Your mom said you slept in the neighbor's bed. What did we talk about?"

"We didn't say anything. You and your wife sent me to a gay healing camp because you wanted to. I never said I was healed." Enid lifted her head, looking at her father with dagger in her eyes.

"Do you by any chance want to be sent to camp again? No? So stop talking to me like that. I'm not your friend, I'm your father, you owe me respect." He said getting face to face with her.

For werewolves, staring was almost a call for a fight, but Enid was half-breed, she wouldn't be intimidated.

"I don't owe you anything Murray. Send me to camp again and I'll love to hear your apologies to our families when they see me in a coffin with my wrists slashed." Enid said quietly, still staring at him. His eyes turned yellow and he snarled, punching the wall behind her and sinking his fist into it.

Murray took a few deep breaths and his eyes returned to normal. He shifted his gaze downstairs and then back to his daughter.

"What happened to your bike?"

"I fell and it broke, I don't know where it is."

"And now I'm going to have to spend money on another?"

"Spend your money how you want. I don't care." Enid said and walked away, going into her room.

"Lunch is almost ready, I want you downstairs in 5 minutes."

She did not go.

Enid only left her room for dinner, and even though she was late, her parents were still at the table. She found it strange, but didn't say anything when she picked up her plate and went to put her food.

"We waited for you to eat. An apology would be nice." Esther's voice cut through the silence and Enid almost laughed.

"Sorry." she said and started preparing a meat for her. The ones her mother made were basically raw.

"I already made meat." Esther said confused, watching her daughter make her own food. "Do you think I put poison or something? Because that's rude."

"I don't eat raw meat mom. I'm not a wolf." Enid answered without turning to her and Murray huffed, shaking his head.

"But you should at least respect our culture and our home."

"I respect it. You almost killed me last night and I'm still here, at your house." Enid replied, finishing her meat and placing it on her plate before taking a seat at the table as far away from them as possible.

"Almost killed you?! You again with your dramas, Enid?" Esther laughed, she really did, looking at her daughter in disbelief.

Enid said nothing. It wasn't possible that she really was the only victim here, right? It wasn't possible that she was right and her parents were wrong, they were two and she was one. Yoko and Wednesday said she was right, but she didn't believe it herself.

The hunger quickly passed as her mother started her snide remarks again. 'Enid is to blame for the pack leaving', 'your cousins didn't want to do that', 'Enid is eating too much, as usual.'

Damn, she hadn't even taken 3 bites.

"Goodnight. I'm sorry." Enid quickly left the table, practically running to her room. Her parents didn't say anything, just scoffed when she was out of sight.

Enid ran upstairs and into the upstairs bathroom, throwing up into the toilet as soon as she got there. She basically just threw up water, as the only meal she had all day was an apple. Her head was spinning and she didn't care if she was making noise.

When the contractions in her stomach stopped, the girl got up dizzy and holding onto the sink and breathing hard. After a few seconds she managed to collect herself enough and flushed. She drank some of the tap water and then brushed her teeth, trying to get the bitter taste out of her mouth.

Enid came out of the bathroom and practically dragged herself into the bedroom, lying down on the bed and shuddering slightly. It didn't take long for her to sleep, tiredness and lack of sustenance catching up with her.

Wednesday watched from afar as Enid slept like the dead on Yoko's shoulder. Her tail wagged slightly as Enid's sweatshirt didn't do much to hide the purple marks on her neck.

The shifter doesn't know why, but she knows she cares about Enid. Maybe it's because of the injustice the girl's parents commit, the unfair life she's forced to live. She never liked to see abuse of any kind and Esther Sinclair was clearly an abuser.

Wednesday continued to watch the girls from the top of a tree, the body lying on a thick trunk. She liked trees, they were comfortable.

When the bell for the end of the break rang, Enid remained as still as a stone. Wednesday didn't stop worrying, but calmed down when Yoko shook her and she woke up.

The vampire gave her an apple, which she accepted and began to eat slowly, as if it hurt.

What a strange girl.

Wednesday shook her head and jumped down from the tree, heading to her current class. She was probably late, but she didn't care.

At the end of classes, Wednesday went to her car and was leaving when she saw Enid again. But the girl was walking slowly, almost dragging her feet.

She pulled up beside Enid and honked when the girl didn't notice, startling her.

"Ow Wednesday, what's that for?" Enid said as she opened the car door and plopped down on the seat.

"Did I happen to offer you a ride?" Wednesday asked with mock anger.

"No need, I know you like me enough." Enid said with a tired smile, closing her eyes briefly.

"There are granola bars under the bench if you want." The shifter said quietly, seeing Enid shake her head. She sighed. "Eat."

"I do not need." Enid protested.

"I'm ordering you to do it. Do it already, work of evil."

"Work of evil? Really?" Enid asked quietly, picking up two granola bars and popping a whole one in her mouth. "That's so damn good, how could you hide that from me and our friendship?"

"We're not friends. Put on your seat belt."

Enid put her seat belt on and popped another granola bar in her mouth and barely chewed as she swallowed, choking and coughing a little.

"Are they depriving you of food too?" Wednesday asked as Enid shoved another bar into her mouth.

"Sorry, I just don't eat much." Enid replied, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"Why?" the shifter asked, not realizing she'd touched a nerve.

Enid took a while to answer, feeling a little uncomfortable with the question. But she knew the girl hadn't asked out of malice, it was pure curiosity.

"My mom didn't use physical violence to scold me when I was a kid." She started, as Wednesday already knew about the physical abuse. "She locked me in my room for a few hours a day, I often missed lunch or dinner. My mind got used to it I guess, but my body didn't. Sometimes I skip lunch or dinner on purpose and don't realize how dehydrated or malnourished my body is."

"Why on purpose?"

"I just don't see a reason to eat if I don't feel like it. It's not cool, but I can't help it." She shrugs, sighing in surprise to see that they're already down the street from home.

"You're having lunch at my place today."

"What? But my parents..."

"Like you said, I doubt they'll notice if you don't show up." Wednesday said as she parked the car in the garage, doing the same process as the day before.

When they reached the dining room, no one was there except for a very tall man. He grunted as the two girls entered, not caring about Enid's presence.

"Hello Lurch. This is Enid, my classmate." Wednesday introduced them and he grunted in greeting.

"Hello, Lurch!"

"My parents don't have lunch at home on weekdays, if you're wondering. Pugsley prefers to eat in his room." The goth said as she looked at the food on the table her mother had left before leaving. "Do you like octopus?"

"I've never had it, but I'd like to try it." Enid said and picked up a plate, putting some rice on it. She stared at the cooked octopus for a while, deciding to take a small tentacle.

She sat down at the table and thanked him when Lurch handed her gold cutlery, but froze when she saw the knife.

No, don't do that at Wednesday's house

How would she eat an octopus without a knife? She always ate with a spoon at her house.

She could handle a kitchen knife, for God's sake. She wasn't even that sharp. She just needed to hold the knife, cut the octopus and eat.

No, she couldn't hold the knife, who was she trying to fool? Herself, probably.

What would Wednesday think of her if she couldn't hold the damn knife?

"Enid." She woke up hearing the voice of the girl in her thoughts, looking at her slowly. "You still haven't touched your plate and it's been approximately 3 minutes since you sat down."

"I don't..." Enid tried to adjust her thoughts and make her words coherent, but she couldn't, so she just looked away and pointed at the knife on the table.

"Is the knife not washed properly? I can cut off Lurch's finger for that if you wish." Wednesday said putting down her cutlery.

"No!" The blonde said, the girl's speech only making the situation worse. She almost laughed at the coincidence of the situation. "I just... I can't hold the knife."

"Take off the glove, then."

"It's not because of the glove. I can't hold the knife. I can't even look at it" She tried again, looking at Wednesday and seeing the look on her face change slightly.

"Did your mother ever stab you?" She asked quietly, her gaze dropping to Enid's body.

This girl...

When Enid was slow to respond, she stood up abruptly, pulling a silver knife literally out of nowhere.

"I can stab her back if you-"

"No, Wednesday! My mom didn't stab me! It's just... I don't want to talk about it right now, I can just get a spoon, it's okay." Enid said, smiling slightly as the girl sat back down, the knife having disappeared from her hand in seconds.

Wednesday pulled out Enid's plate and started cutting the octopus for her. The blonde blushed at this and almost groaned in embarrassment. She didn't want to be treated like a child.

Her mother never let her be a child.

Wednesday handed the plate back to her and Enid thanked her, eating this time with a spoon that Lurch brought her. It was good, the girl didn't ask her any more questio ns and she appreciated that.

The two ate in complete silence, but comfortable with each other's presence. Enid was now getting ready to leave, realizing with surprise that she ate all the food this time, without throwing anything away.

She said goodbye to Wednesday, who just waved back and went back to her room on the second floor. She chuckled to herself and headed for the garage door, heading into her own house.

Upon entering, her slight smile immediately faded when she saw her father sitting on the stairs, looking towards the door.

"Where were you?" He asked standing up and crossing his arms.

"Walking? I don't have a bike anymore, I have to walk home and it takes a while." Enid said trying to control her heart.

Her father would realize she was lying if her heart started to race.

"I'm not buying you another bike."

"Okay. I can walk." She answered at last, pushing past him and heading to her room.

She didn't notice Murray's nose twitching at the smell of cat.

Chapter Text

A few weeks passed. Things were going well, really. Esther has not physically harmed Enid since that day, although the screaming and fighting continued. Murray was distant, always worrying about work and pack stuff.

Enid was still having lunch at Wednesday's house most days, and running out of her supply of granola bars. She couldn't always eat it all, and whenever the food was something too solid, Wednesday cut it up for her without her having to ask.

And the goth girl might not admit it, but they are forming a friendship. They almost always talked at school and had lunch together, they talked about their brothers and sometimes Enid even managed to bring a smile to Wednesday's face.

Morticia and Gomez also already adore Enid, always talking to her when they have time at lunch, and that is exactly the topic of the girls' conversation today.

"Your parents want what?!" Enid's voice was high and shrill, in disbelief at what she'd just heard.

"Exactly what you heard. My parents want yours to come over to our house tomorrow for lunch." Wednesday said, walking to the parking lot.

"This is horrible, my parents will humiliate me again! And your mother will hate me, because that's what my mom always does, and you will start to hate me too!" Enid started to really freak out, walking in circles and ignoring the glares of some students. "She'll tell you I'm crazy, that I freak out and hit her, god, she's done that to so many of my friends' parents."

"Enid, if she tries to embarrass you in front of my parents I promise I will cut her vocal chords, maybe then she will be unable to speak forever." Wednesday said approaching and putting his hands on Enid's shoulders.

"You can't cut her vocal chords. You would be arrested." Enid pouted and Wednesday blew air out through her nose, her laugh form.

"I will not be arrested. But that's ok, I can just verbally attack her, it hurts a little more than physical aggression if you think about it."

"Perhaps." Enid smiled, wondering how she was going to tell her parents this without mentioning that she was seeing Wednesday.

Well, it looked like the answer had just come to her.

Enid felt her smile slowly fade as she watched her father walk towards her, clearly not enjoying the sight of the girls together. She quickly took a step back and broke away from Wednesday's grip, seeing her confused expression as she backed away even further.

"Alright Wednesday, I'll tell them. Goodbye!" Enid said loud enough for her dad to hear, walking towards him and flashing a fake smile. "Hi dad!"

"What were you doing with that girl?" Murray asked quietly as soon as he got close enough, grabbing Enid by the arm and dragging her to the car.

"Wednesday was just telling me that her parents asked us to have lunch there tomorrow, dad. I swear." Enid said feeling a little scared at this point. Her dad wasn't usually very physical in his aggressions, but his grip was hurting. It would probably form a bruise.

"Lunch at their house? I have some important things to take care of tomorrow." He muttered, basically throwing his daughter in the car and getting in, starting to drive home.

"I didn't know you were picking me up today. You could have texted me." Enid spoke when the silence in the car became too much. She realized they were going a different way than she was used to.

"I want to take you to a restaurant. It's been a while since I've seen you lunch at home and I need to make sure you're eating, you're my daughter." He said, turning left and stopping at a corner restaurant.

Okay, that was weird.

Murray never made much effort to see Enid well, but here he was, taking her out to lunch at a cheap restaurant.

They got out of the car and sat down at a table for two, Enid's nervousness making her swing her leg under the table and tap her knuckles together. A craze she had when she was uncomfortable in some situation.

Murray Murray ordered the food and it arrived not long after. Enid didn't really feel like eating, so she just ordered a vegetable soup that looked like it was just water and salt.

"So Enid, how are you doing at school? Everything okay? No one... talking about your finger?" He asked after a long time of silence and Enid shook her head.

"No. Nobody really knows about it, you know I wear the glove all day." She raised her left hand, showing off the black glove. The index finger of the glove reached halfway before going limp.

"Excellent. Keep it that way, okay? We don't want what happened at other schools to happen." Murray said and took another bite of his steak.

"Okay."

They finished eating and went to the car in silence. On the way, Enid took the opportunity to use her cell phone and tell Yoko what had happened. She ended up laughing a little in the middle of the conversation and her father glared at her, but then looked straight ahead again.

When they got home, Enid immediately noticed the goth girl looking at her through an upstairs window. Scary, but comforting. She gave a discreet smile and entered her own house, going to her room immediately.

Not even 2 minutes later her mother entered the room.

"Were you really talking to that girl again? After I warned you not to?" She said looking at Enid, who had clothes in hand and ready to go shower.

"I didn't talk to her, she talked to me. And she just wanted to get a message from her parents." Enid said quietly, not daring to look at Esther.

"You let her get close."

"It would be rude to walk away."

"Who cares? I warned you..." Esther approached, but Enid did the unbelievable thing in response.

She growled.

The sound came from deep in her chest, a confused and defensive growl. She widened her eyes and looked at her mother in fear.

Esther approached slowly and Enid didn't dare move away, her entire body practically shaking. She really didn't know where it had come from, but she didn't care, as long as her mother didn't kill her.

Suddenly, before she could see it, a hard slap landed on her face, throwing her straight to the ground. She whimpered and pulled away slightly from Esther, who grabbed her face tightly.

"You will never tell anyone this. Am I clear?"

Enid just nodded in response, still shaking. But she didn't dare shed any tears, not even when Esther left the room calmly as if nothing had happened.

Enid didn't eat dinner that night, didn't respond to Yoko's texts, and didn't even move. She just lay in bed and stared at the ceiling, thinking about nothing and everything at the same time.

Chapter Text

Wednesday realized there was something strange going on as soon as she saw Enid.

The girl hadn't smiled at all since entering the house. She didn't say anything, she didn't look or speak to anyone and her eyes were unfocused the entire time.

Morticia and Gomez also seemed to notice, not even trying to talk to the girl.

Until it was time for lunch.

At Wednesday's request, Morticia made a meal that was light and easy to cut with a spoon. Esther, however, was not pleased when Lurch gave Enid a spoon. She looked questioningly at him as Enid just picked up the spoon and waited to start eating.

"Why did Enid get a spoon?" she asked and Lurch just grunted and looked at Wednesday.

"I warned him that Enid has an aversion to sharp objects."

"And how do you know that?" Murray asked this time, and the shifter felt her claws reach out further and scratch the table.

"She told me yesterday when I mentioned the lunch."

"Always looking for attention, aren't you Enid?" Esther said again, laughing and giving her a light elbow, making her back away in discomfort.

"The Addamses appreciate silence at the table, if you are capable of it." Wednesday said and ignored Esther's snort, starting to eat.

Everyone began to eat in silence, the only sound present being silverware hitting plates. Except Enid's.

Wednesday unfortunately paid no attention to this, too busy imagining torture scenarios on Esther Sinclair. But her mother saw.

"Enid? Is everything alright dear?" Morticia asked, but Enid didn't look up or even move in acknowledgment of the voice. She just stared statically down.

"Enid! Answer!" Esther whispered aggressively, to which Enid responded with a strangled sound. Her lips were purple and trembling, the spoon dropped from her hands as her face turned pale. The other girl finally noticed, she wasn't breathing.

She wasn't breathing.

Wednesday got up quickly, going to the blonde's side in seconds. She pulled her chair back and grabbed Enid's limp body, which instantly fell to the side.

"She's not breathing." She gave a quick explanation, laying Enid on her back and opening her mouth to check if there was anything stuck in her throat. She didn't see anything, so she assumed it was a panic attack.

"What do you mean by that? Enid, get up and stop embarrassing us!" Esther said, getting up from her chair and trying to touch Enid, but seeing the slightest twitch of her eyebrow, Wednesday pushed the woman away.

"Do not touch without her consent."

"What consent?! She doesn't even move!"

Wednesday decided to ignore this and fussed over Enid, lightly cupping both sides of her face.

"Where is her consent in this?" Murray's voice played in the background, being ignored as well.

"Enid. Breathe, please. Try it." The goth tried, but Enid just got more and more colorless. "Try to imitate me."

And then she started to take a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth, directing Enid's gaze to her. At some point, she started to let out short bursts of air, her eyes focusing on the girl in front of her. Her hands twitched slightly and her left arm came up, grabbing Wednesday's wrist.

"Keep it up. Very good." Wednesday praised her, pulling her into a sitting position when she began to breathe normally.

"Is everything okay, Enid?" Gomez asked, but she didn't bother to look at him, collapsing completely on top of the shifter.

"We are very sorry. Enid hasn't acted like this for a while, we try to avoid it but it's inevitable." Murray apologized, but Morticia waved her hands.

"Pugsley also has a few panic episodes from time to time, that's okay."

"Do you want to eat? Can you get up?" Wednesday asked, but Enid didn't look at her. She touched her shoulder gently, making her look at her. "Can you get up?"

The blonde just shook her head, laying her head on Wednesday's shoulder. She probably felt the girl tense at the contact, but she didn't seem to mind.

"You can take her upstairs if you want." Morticia said and Wednesday nodded, getting to her feet with Enid clinging to her shoulder. They walked slowly past Esther, Wednesday growling low at her.

She carried Enid all the way upstairs, practically carrying her. When they got to her room, she sat the girl down on the bed and sat next to her, waiting for her to start talking if she wanted to.

"I'm so-"

"If you dare apologize for something that was beyond your emotional control I will throw you down the stairs while I feast on your bones breaking." Wednesday cut her off, almost smiling when Enid bumped their shoulders together.

"Okay. I understand. My parents' fault and all."

"So I'm finally able to undo your brainwashing?"

Enid chuckled lightly at that, but the smile disappeared as soon as she looked down at her hand. She looked at Wednesday and then looked at the no again, slowly removing the glove.

Wednesday noticed the movement and looked away as soon as the glove was completely removed, but Enid nudged her with her elbow to get her attention.

"It's okay. You can look."

And with that, she looked.

What Wednesday saw first was obviously a severed finger. It was cut unevenly, crookedly and without a pattern. She doubted this had been planned. She squirmed her hand a little, wanting to touch but not wanting to go too far.

"My cousins cut my index finger at a family barbecue a year and a half ago. They used a big, sharp knife, they were 'playing' pretending to cut, raising and lowering the knife while grabbing me to stay close. My uncle called Tobias, the guy who was holding the knife at the time, and he got distracted." Enid said, her voice breaking a little at the end.

If she was a real werewolf and could fight back...

"It was a lot of blood. On the cutting board, on the grass, on the car. When they saw what they had done, Tobias pushed me away, causing me to fall to the ground as I screamed in pain. They started fighting and growling and biting each other and it was all so horrible. None of this would have happened if I didn't-"

"Don't you dare finish that sentence, Enid Sinclair." Wednesday cut her for the second time that day. "Why do you think this is your fault?"

"Well, everyone says it is, and if I were a wolf I could have defended myself. Now I'm all- I can't even- I can't see a knife in front of me without hyperventilating. It could be a simple kitchen chore, but I feel- I feel like I'm going back to that day, you know? And my parents keep telling me that I have panic attacks to get attention, that it's my fault the pack went away, and my mother just- I hate her so much!"

Enid felt tears run freely as she poured out her heart.

"Enid, understand when I say, it's not your fault. It may take you a while to understand this, but I hope you get it. Your cousins are assholes, I'll kill them myself if they dare come near you. If you allow me."

Enid laughed a little through her tears, wiping her eyes and looking fondly at her friend.

"Sure, Willa." She said without realizing it, not noticing Wednesday blushing a little at this. She took a deep breath and tried to compose herself, touching the tip of her severed finger. "It still hurts sometimes."

"It's one thing with your nerves not regenerating 100%. Maybe it will get better someday." Wednesday said looking at the finger, not holding back as she held out her hand. "Can I touch?"

Enid hesitated a bit, but slowly placed her hand on top of Wednesday's. The girl held Enid's hand and finger tenderly, running her finger lightly through Enid's and watching it shudder and squirm slightly.

"Sorry, it's an involuntary movement." Enid said quietly and she stared at her deeply, disappointed with what she just heard. "Alright, I'll stop apologizing. Sorry."

Wednesday just rolled her eyes in response.

"You looked fine when you got to your house yesterday. Do you mind telling me what happened?"

"About that, well- My mom told me not to tell anyone and..."

"And since when does she have any hold over you? Say what you want to say."

"I kind of... growled at her. I shouldn't be able to do that, because I'm a half-breed, but- but I do some things I don't know half-breeds do." Enid said, pulling her left hand back and letting approximately three-inch claws appear. "My mom still doesn't know about it. She hit me yesterday when I growled at her."

Wednesday wagged his tail in irritation and dug his claws into the mattress. Enid noticed this and placed her hand over hers hesitantly, not sure if the girl would appreciate the contact.

With her heightened hearing, the shifter heard footsteps. She quickly flipped the switch beside the bed and turned off the light, lying down and pulling Enid with her. The blonde gasped as she was laid on top of the girl with her head on her chest.

"What..."

"Pretend you're still psychologically unstable."

"I am psychologically unstable." Enid replied, not understanding the purpose of this, but then she heard, low and faint, a purr.

Wednesday was purring at her.

She let out an embarrassing whimper in response, pressing herself even closer to the girl and running a hand over her. Morticia knocked on the door and opened it a few seconds later.

"Honey, Enid's parents are leaving. She needs to go with them." She said quietly, without turning on the light, but seeing the scene in front of her.

"Enid is completely unstable, mother. I doubt that even if her mother tries to pull her off me, she won't let me go." Wednesday responded back and Enid didn't even have to pretend, clinging even tighter to her and trying to chase the sound. "I'm sure you know the healing effects of a cat shifter's purr."

Morticia sighed and nodded, giving up.

"I'll let her parents know. They might try to come here."

"If they come I will kill them."

Morticia just laughed in response, closing the door and leaving. Wednesday sighed and stopped purring, but nearly hissed in pain as Enid's grip tightened on her. Enid seemed to realize her mistake and released her immediately.

"Sorry! I just got a little too excited about the purring." She said and pulled away a little, but let out a little cry of surprise when Wednesday's hand went to the back of her neck and pulled her back, purring again.

Enid slowly relaxed, feeling almost ecstatic. She felt almost as if she had been drugged. She felt when Wednesday started stroking her hair, felt when the girl's hand stopped, and heard when her mother called out to her.

But she couldn't understand the words. She felt Esther's hands grabbing her and trying to pull her away, but pulling away when she tried to scratch her with her claws. Enid snarled and bared her elongated fangs at her mother, who backed away completely and left the room, slamming the door behind her.

"Muy bien, mia lupa. La hiciste correr." She heard Wednesday say and looked at her with big eyes and a smile on her lips.

They approached slowly, foreheads touching. Wednesday hadn't purred in a while, but that didn't matter now.

"Can I kiss you?" Enid whispered and Wednesday didn't wait a second to step forward, pressing her lips to the other girl's. She wasted no time in thrusting her tongue into her mouth, threateningly past Enid's sharp fangs.

Enid moved onto her lap, pulling their bodies together and placing a hand on her shoulder. They pulled away after a while of shortness of breath and Enid laughed, laying her head on the shifter's neck beneath her.

"Can I sleep here tonight? My mom will probably try to kill me when I get home and I'm not kidding." She said quietly and Wednesday nodded, clutching Enid's body to her own.

"I don't want you to be alone with that woman."

"You can stay with me, I don't mind. If this poses no risk to you."

"I'm the biggest threat here, no Esther."

"I'm sure of it."

Chapter Text

"You can't hide from my parents for long. They're asking about you, they want to know if you're okay." Wednesday spoke while bringing the food.

"I'm embarrassed to see them. Because of the scene I did yesterday." Enid picked up the plate and spoon, seeing pasta. "How am I supposed to eat pasta with a spoon?"

"It wasn't a scene. It was a panic attack and you had no control over it. Shall I remind you whose fault it is?" Wednesday said, ignoring Enid's question.

"My mom. Thanks for remembering, Wends."

She ate in silence, grumbling as the pasta fell from the spoon. But finally she got it done and felt it was time to face Wednesday's parents.

"Wends, I think I want to see your parents now. They kind of need to be aware that they're harboring a person suffering from domestic violence." she laughed humorlessly, feeling awkward saying those words. "Sorry, I'm being dramatic. All parents hit their children once in their lives, right?"

Wednesday just raised an eyebrow in response.

"Right...?"

"The brainwashing they did to you... Tell me, Enid, I'm going to have a hard time undoing this, aren't I?"

Enid grunted in response, lowering her gaze.

"Probably. Sorry, I'll stop saying that kind of thing."

"No, quite the opposite. I'd rather you keep saying these things, so I can get to the bottom of it. Would killing your parents help?"

"Don't kill my parents, Willa." Enid laughed and got up, following Wednesday out of the room.

"If they touch you with ulterior motives, I will."

They went downstairs together, Enid going into the kitchen to wash her dishes. Wednesday went into the living room where her parents were and interrupted their lovemaking session to deliver the announcement.

"Enid decided to come talk to you. Don't be weird, she lives in an unstable state of mind and doesn't deserve to see you making out on the couch." She said and her parents immediately stopped kissing and cuddling.

Enid arrived some time later, slow and looking at everything but Wednesday's parents. She sat down next to Wednesday and sighed.

"I'm sorry I hid in the room. It was childish and it won't happen again." She said quietly, receiving an elbow from Wednesday.

"No problem, Lobita." Gomez said smiling and she smiled back at him. "We'd be lying if we said we didn't hear the screams coming from your house and want to know if you're okay."

Enid shrugged and looked down again, but she couldn't lie to them, not when they were sheltering and feeding her.

"My mom has big problems controlling her anger, she yells at me and hits me sometimes. That was her fault." And then she shows her left arm with the 3 big scars there. Wednesday removed the stitches one week ago.

"That's terrible dear." Morticia said with a surprised sigh, looking at Enid fondly. "Do you have any support? Friends or family?"

"I have Wednesday and Yoko. I literally barely ate before I met Wednesday, and my parents didn't know we were friends until yesterday. They didn't want me to team up with her, they were afraid I'd go back to my 'gay era'." Enid decided to lay it all on the table, she wasn't going to hide anything from them. "A few years ago they sent me on a camp to cure me of my homosexuality. It didn't work out, obviously, but they think so."

"Have you thought about telling the police?"

"I tried, 3 years ago. It was the first time that my dad physically assaulted me and I really thought I was going to die. It was a full moon and he was in wolf form, so..." She laughed bitterly, the painful memories of when Murray had attacked her in wolf form. Her back and scalp are still scarred by his claws.

Morticia nodded and Gomez looked thoughtful. Enid instinctively approached Wednesday, the girl's hand coming up to take hers in an attempt at comfort.

"We can work that out. I'm sure the family lawyer will get a restraining order. If you agree with this, we can become your legal guardians until you turn 18." Gomez said suddenly and Enid's eyes widened.

"No! I mean, you can't spend money on me, I know how expensive lawyers are." She said, still stunned by the suggestion.

"Money is not the problem. But of course, like I said, only if you agree to it. You can have time to think."

Enid blushed and nodded, smiling slightly.

"Thanks for all the help. I think I need to go back to my own house now and face the rabid wolf my mother is."  Enid got up from the couch, completely unwilling to go home, but Wednesday continued to hold her hand and her parents noticed it.

"Why don't you take Wednesday with you?" Morticia asked suddenly. "Just in case."

"Great idea, mother." Wednesday said, and within seconds there was now a black cat with short legs and yellow eyes staring back at her.

Jesus, she's so cute.

Enid was barely repressing her urge to crush the cat, and Wednesday, realizing this, tried to run, but was grabbed by the half-werewolf's strong hands.

"You are so cute, Wednesday! Look at those short little legs! How does a little thing as small as you manage to threaten an adult werewolf with death?" Enid said and heard Gomez and Morticia laugh. She held Wednesday in front of her face and smiled at her, but closed her eyes when the cat began to spank her with her front paw. "Ow ow ow! Okay, I understand!"

She dropped the cat onto the couch and she hissed as she ran.  Enid laughed and looked at Gomez and Morticia, who were looking at her fondly.

"Well thanks again! Bye!" She smiled and waved, heading for the front door and being followed by the black cat.

They arrived in front of Enid's house and she tried to open the door only to find it was locked, she huffed and knocked three times on the door and picked Wednesday up. She complained and meowed loudly, but Enid put her hand over her mouth.

At the same time Esther Sinclair opened the door, grimacing at the scene.

"What is that?"

"A cat."

"I know what a cat is Enid, what is it doing on my doorstep?"

"She was up front and wouldn't stop meowing. I'll take her to my room." Enid said at last and tried to go in, but her mother put an arm in front of the door.

"You... didn't even think about the consequences of your actions before coming here and acting like nothing happened? You attacked me, Enid! This is unacceptable!"

"Don't tell me attacking you is unacceptable! Fair enough, to say the least, given all the times you've attacked me first. Should I remind you when the cousins hurt me? You sided with them and hit me for not defending myself! And hit me over and over again after the pack decided to move." Enid blurted it all out at once and waited for Esther to respond, only to be met with silence and a surprised look.

Enid scoffed and went inside, pushing Esther's arm and heading towards her room.

"You are pathetic, Esther Sinclair. And I don't know why it took me so long to understand this."

Notes:

Thanks for all the support! The internship has been fun so far, although I had an anxiety attack in class today. It was really bad, knowing that my classmates don't talk to me because I'm an lgbt person and they're afraid of being contaminated. It sucks. I hope you all are doing well and that you enjoyed it, we are reaching the end of this story unfortunately.

"Do you think she's going to try to kill me?" Enid asked quietly, absently running her hand through Wednesday's fur.

The cat meowed loudly in response, nipping at Enid's belly.

"Stop biting me! Bad kitty!" Enid complained, tapping the cat's forehead with her right index finger. She sighed again and looked up, taking Wednesday's hands and laying them at her sides. "I didn't know you could shift. You never told me that and you never did it in front of me..."

"I don't usually do that." Wednesday's voice came and Enid started, looking up to see the girl now sitting on the bed and looking at her. "I've noticed that when I shift I tend to have strange and uncomfortable feline behaviors."

"Oh? Is that bad?"

Wednesday was slow to answer, looking at the floor and seeming to blush with embarrassment.

"I've caught myself several times scratching the couch and licking myself. It's humiliating." She said and lay down on the bed next to Enid, sighing and rubbing her face into Enid's shoulder before coming to an abrupt stop. "That sort of thing too."

"That's cute, Wednesday." Enid laughed and hugged her, burying her face in her loose hair. "That's kind of branding me with your scent, right?"

"Yes, that's it."

"You can do it then. I don't care and you're too adorable to deny it."

Wednesday just grunted under her breath in response, bumping her head lightly against Enid's chin.

"Don't you feel like doing cat things even when you haven't shifted for a long time?" Enid asked starting to play with the hair of the girl above her.

"Yes, but it's manageable. It's just a willingness to be myself, I guess. When I shift, everything intensifies and becomes almost an urgency, I need to act that way." She vented, happy to tell this to someone she trusts.

"You can't deny who you are, Wends. If you feel comfortable with that, you can be yourself when you're with me. I- I really like you, all over." Enid confessed, blushing. Wednesday smiled as she felt and heard Enid's heart race, lifting her head a little and looking at her tenderly.

"I like you too, Enid." She smiled and leaned in, kissing her briefly.

Enid giggled and snuggled deeper into the bed, hoping to get some rest in bed with her girlfriend/friend with benefits? But Esther burst into the room and in the blink of an eye there was now a cat on top of Enid's belly.

"Enid, you might have noticed that Murray doesn't spend as much time at home anymore." she began, moving closer. Wednesday lay down and started wagging her tail.

"Yes, I noticed."

"The reason is that he is sorting out some things for the pack, for when we move there. After yesterday's events he decided he was going to stay there."

Enid's heart missed a beat.

Without Murray there, it meant that Enid would be more vulnerable to Esther. The woman didn't usually hit Enid while he was home, and now that he's gone back to San Francisco...

"He took the car, so you'll have to walk to and from school." Esther completed.

"I already do this every day, it's not his absence that's going to have a big impact on my life." Enid responded and turned onto her side, wincing when her mother snarled.

"You're getting pretty sassy lately, don't you think? Aren't you afraid of what might happen? Aren't you afraid of me?" She asked in a low voice, approaching menacingly, but before she could touch Enid the cat meowed loudly and hissed.

Esther snarled at her and tried to grab her, but she scratched her arm and she backed completely away from them.

"I'm going to kill that cat!"

"How I act or fail to act is none of your business, mom." Enid said completely ignoring Esther's comment.

Esther snorted and laughed. That way, she didn't even look like the same woman who'd beaten her own daughter years ago. She waved her hands and left the room, closing the door behind her.

Enid let out a sigh of relief/fear and lay back down on her back. Wednesday shifted back and Enid would hardly have noticed if she hadn't been looking.

"Did you know that your weight barely changes? I could carry you everywhere, cat or not." Enid commented, laughing when Wednesday blushed and rolled her eyes.

"Did you know that I can still kill you? Cat or not." The shifter said, slowly trailing her right hand up to Enid's neck. The girl's breath hitched as the claws dug lightly into her skin, menacingly.

"Was that meant to be a threat or just you trying to seduce me?" Enid asked quietly, gripping Wednesday's thighs with her own exposed claws.

"It could be both." Wednesday responded and leaned all the way down, kissing Enid fervently. She stuck her tongue in immediately, wanting to taste Enid.

Enid's hands moved to Wednesday's waist, where she pulled her lower and squeezed hard enough to leave marks, even through her clothing. She moaned softly into the kiss and lightly scratched her neck, moaning in frustration when one of Enid's hands went to her hair and pulled it away to end the kiss.

"Do you want to be my girlfriend?" She asked, hope shining in her voice.

"Yes. Can we go back to kissing now, please?"

Enid just giggled and pulled her back, their mouths colliding again.

___________________________

Later, Enid went down to dinner and grabbed two plates, taking the food to her room. She went back to the kitchen and also got two plastic cup with water.

Wednesday was sitting on the bed waiting for her when she arrived, and she sat there, setting the glasses on the end table next to the shifter.

They ate in silence and Wednesday was the first to finish, setting her plate aside and turning to their cups of water, ready to drink.

But that plastic cup looked so, so attractive.

She could just give it a little pat, Enid wouldn't realize she was being weird.

But when she noticed, the plastic cup was on the floor and the water was dripping. Her tail wagged behind her, completely drawn to the plastic cup until oh, she remembered there was another one.

Her hand was getting closer and closer to the edge of the end table, pushing the cup, until a hand grabbed her wrist and she growled in frustration.

When she turned, she saw Enid staring at her, eyes wide and mouth open in shock. She quickly realized what she had done and her ears flattened against her head, her tail lying motionless on the bed.

"What was this? I was calling out to you, but you didn't turn around or give any sign of hearing me." Enid said letting go of Wednesday's wrist, who crossed her arms.

"My apologies. That's what I was talking about when I said why I don't shift often." She replied quietly, feeling embarrassed by the mess.

But before she could whine any further, Enid lifted her chin and smiled.

"It's okay. It's just water, we can clean it up."

Enid went to get a rag, and Wednesday grabbed it right away, starting to dry the floor. The blonde took the cups and plates and took them downstairs, washing them. But when she got back to her room, the lights were off and the only thing that proved that Wednesday was there was the bulge on the bed.

Enid carefully lay down on the bed and covered herself, placing a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder.

"All good?" She asked quietly, grimacing when Wednesday just mumbled in response. "It was just water."

The other girl turned fully around this time, coming face to face with Enid.

"I'm ashamed. These stupid cat stereotypes..." She complained and lowered her eyes, keeping her hands to herself.

"No reason to be like this. I told you, it was just water. I don't see you any different because you threw a cup of water on the floor, Willa." Enid laughed a little, hugging the smaller girl who sighed and finally relaxed.

"Okay. It was just water." She repeated, closing her eyes and snuggling into her girlfriend. She began to purr, lulling her and Enid into peaceful sleep for the first time in the blonde's life.

First of all, thanks for all your comments! I really felt welcomed by you, and for those who ask, I don't intend to be a nurse forever. It's something I like, and taking care of people is amazing, especially the elderly. But what I want to do for the rest of my life, maybe just as a hobby, is be a taxidermist. Chapter Text

Enid woke up feeling a little suffocated, and realized why when she opened her eyes and saw black fur.

She snarled and shoved the cat off her face, letting out a small cry when she bit her hand. She got out of bed and went to the closet, getting clothes for the day since it was Monday and they had class.

"Wake up." she whispered and shook the cat, who only meowed in irritation and stretched.

Enid had an idea.

She smiled wryly before running downstairs, ignoring her mother and going to the fridge to get her war weapon. A cucumber. She went upstairs and into the bedroom, carefully placing a cucumber next to the still sleeping cat.

Enid picked up her cell phone and started recording, walking away from the bed.

"Willa!" She spoke just loud enough for the cat to hear, watching the scene play out in slow motion.

Wednesday opened her eyes and looked at her, then at the cucumber and then her pupils became thin slits and she meowed loudly, jumping to the ground. She hissed at the green menace and then looked at Enid, who was laughing her head off.

Enid stopped the recording and tried to catch her breath, only to be attacked by the black cat that jumped in her face. She grabbed Enid's head in her claws and pulled her hair, snarling and biting her head. The hind legs were doing a great job on Enid's neck.

"Get off!" The girl screamed, shaking her head and pacing aimlessly across the room until she fell onto the bed, where she managed to yank the rabid cat out of her face. She took a deep breath and held the animal away from her. "You psychopath! It was just a cucumber!"

Wednesday just growled again and Enid dropped her to the ground, pulling away when she tried to bite her shins.

"I'll shower and get dressed, you'll still have time to go to your place and get dressed when we get out of here." Enid said finally, leaving the room and closing the door.

She went into the bathroom and automatically made a face when she saw herself in the mirror. Her hair was completely disheveled and messed up, her neck full of reddish scratch marks.

She took a quick shower and dressed in white pants and a pink t-shirt. Leaving the bathroom, she headed towards her bedroom only to find her mother already there, looking like she was looking for something.

"Mom?" Enid said and Esther turned around, the usual frown on her face.

"Where is the cat?"

"Somewhere around here. Why?" Enid asked suspiciously, trying to see the bag her mother was hiding behind her back.

"I don't want that thing walking around the house, you hear me?" Esther said loudly and Enid just nodded. "Good. Don't forget school."

She left the room after that, still carrying the bag with her. Enid shrugged and went to her glove drawer, only to find it empty.

Oh shit

Enid ran downstairs, seeing the open front door and running outside. She ran into the backyard after Esther and her heart dropped as she saw the scene.

"No!" She screamed, but Esther didn't turn around, just throwing more alcohol on the fire pile in the grass.

She ran again, snarling in despair at the sight of her gloves burning. She threw herself on her knees on the floor and tried in vain to look for a glove that wasn't completely destroyed, but found nothing.

"What did you do?!" She yelled at Esther, who just laughed and put her hands on her hips, walking away.

"A little punishment for defying me. Your bank accounts are locked, so there's no use trying to buy more. Good luck and have a nice day at school, dear." And then she smiled, sweet and soft, as if she hadn't just implanted new trauma in her own daughter's brain.

Enid was in complete shock. Her ears were ringing and her vision was swirling blurred, she could only think of how lucky she was to have parents like that.

Why?

She moved her vision millimetrically to the side, seeing the bottle of alcohol still half empty.

And then she looked at her left hand.

She will never know why she did it.

Before Esther could walk away or do anything to stop her, Enid grabbed the bottle of alcohol and threw it into her left hand. And then put it on the fire.

The pain was instantaneous. Her hand started to burn and catch fire and she was screaming without her realizing it, loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear.

"Enid!" Esther screamed, but it was nothing to the blonde's ears. She threw herself to Enid's side and pulled her hand from the fire, getting up and starting to stomp on her hand in an attempt to put out the remaining fire.

Crack, she heard.

And again

And again

The fire went out.

Wednesday heard the screams and ran out of her house, dressed only in black pants and a black sports bra, fresh out of a shower. The scene she saw was of Esther literally stepping in Enid's hand as she screamed in pain.

She saw red.

Wednesday ran, changing halfway, not the short-legged cat, but a huge, black feline. She had huge canine teeth, a huge mouth, and she was running straight at Esther.

When she saw her, Esther froze.

"Jesus"

The giant feline hit her hard, she slammed her head into Esther and sent her flying, but didn't stop to pay attention to where. She turned to Enid and saw her lying in the grass, her hand no longer on fire but in a terrible state, the smell of burning evident.

She growled again, but not in an aggressive way, in an affectionate way. Enid opened her eyes slightly and smiled painedly, reaching out to her.

"Are you my kitten? Wow, I didn't know you got that big as an adult." She teased and laughed, but stopped when she felt a twinge of pain in her now pretty ugly hand.

Wednesday turned in time to see the giant white wolf run towards her. She snarled and laid her body on top of Enid's, holding herself in place even as the wolf bit her and tried to rip her skin off.

"No!" Enid screamed and scrambled out from under the feline and away from the fray.

Wednesday finally moved, scratching Esther's neck hard. She was smaller than the wolf, but much heavier, so it was like being hit by a speeding car.

Esther growled and ignored the pain, trying to do the same and scratch the feline's face. But then she grabbed her arm and what happened was too fast for her to even process.

In a single movement, Wednesday grabbed Esther's canine arm and yanked it out of her body.

Esther screamed in pain and fell to the ground, no longer having her leg to support her. Wednesday just left her there and went after Enid, who had run to the front of the house in the middle of the commotion.

The blonde was in front of the house surrounded by several people and Wednesday immediately ran towards it, snarling. A few people walked away, but two women stayed.

"Calm down, Willa! They are taking care of me, they have already called an ambulance and the police. Everything is fine." Enid said strangely calmly, smiling at the giant feline.

Wednesday just took a deep breath and lay down, the floor shaking under her weight. The women went back to tending to the shallow cuts on Enid's face, and Enid reached out and stroked her fur. The feline looked at her hand with concern, but she just shook her head.

"You need to tell me more stuff, I didn't know you could turn that... giant thing. What kind of cat are you?"

Wednesday huffed and got to her feet, trying to get through the front door but failing. She snarled and forced her way in, breaking the wall.

Enid just stood there, her mouth open in shock.

A few minutes later, Wednesday came out dressed in Enid's white T-shirt. The blonde furrowed her brows and she rolled her eyes, taking a seat next to her on the sidewalk.

"Your hand. How is it?" Wednesday asked with concern. The purplish color was not very good.

"Nah. I don't feel pain, but I think that's probably a bad thing." She made a face. "I'll be fine, the ambulance will be here soon."

"We'd get to the hospital faster if I took you." Wed essay grumbled, knowing the traffic was terrible.

"Speaking of taking me, you haven't told me what kind of cat you are."

"I can turn into that house cat. I can also become that giant feline that unfortunately we know nothing about. It's one of the great Addams family secrets, I suppose." She shrugged, her ears twitching when she heard a siren. "Probably some species unknown to science or a combination of several species. We do not know."

"It looked a lot like a saber-toothed tiger, but with black fur and spots. And you still have small legs when you're in that shape, you know?" Enid teased, laughing when Wednesday glared at her.

The ambulance finally arrived, Wednesday quickly got up and grabbed Enid by the shoulders, and led her away. Enid mumbled something about her not being made of china which she quickly ignored.

"What..."

"Burnt hand, fingers definitely fractured." Wednesday began, not even waiting for what the ambulance attendant wanted to say.

She watched as Enid was wheeled to the ambulance, her face confused when she didn't get in with her.

"I'll wait for the police to arrive so they can arrest Esther. I have to make sure she doesn't run away." The shifter said, her tail wagging slightly as Enid nodded.

When they took Enid away, Wednesday went into the backyard, leaning against the wall as she watched the woman on the ground groaning in pain, the wound slowly healing. Damn werewolf genes.

"You're just going to stand there? You're not going to kill me? Cause you should." Esther said, managing to gather some strength to push herself to her knees on the floor.

"No. You made Enid's life hell, and I'm going to make sure the last time you see her is in court."

"Would you do us both a favor then." She laughed.

"Why so much hate? She's your daughter, biological or not."

"She is not my biological daughter, but she is Murray's." Esther muttered, which surprised Wednesday who pushed herself off the wall and walked over to her. "He cheated on me with the human slut. The story we told was true, the werewolf who was with her at the time was kicked out of the pack, thinking the pup was his but it was Murray's. That was the only reason we took on Enid."

"Am I right in assuming Enid doesn't know about this?"

"Yes, she doesn't know. It was always harder to look at her knowing that the girl in my house was the result of adultery, and even worse knowing that she was a half-breed." Esther said and suddenly laughed, shaking her head. "Yes, we called her that for so long that I believed that lie myself. Her mother was a human, but Enid is a werewolf like her father. Did she tell you the story behind the cut finger?"

"Yes, she did, and she said you blamed her for not being able to shift and defend herself."

"Well, it's just the opposite. I blame her for shifting."

Wednesday just nodded, taking a seat across from Esther.

"Our pack didn't move because of her dramas, they moved because they were scared. Enid turned and doesn't remember anything, but she almost killed her cousins. She is out of control, a huge, white, yellow-eyed wolf. There are suppressants in her food to stop her transforming again."

"I understand your side, Esther, but you were a terrible mother and you know it. Enid didn't deserve anything you did and are doing to her. Ripping your arm off was a minor thing, you'll suffer worse in jail and I'll make sure of that." Wednesday said ending the conversation, getting up when she heard footsteps.

The police arrived, asked Wednesday a few questions, and took Esther away, promising that they would contact Enid when she got out of the hospital. They grimaced at the arm lying in the grass, but didn't say anything about it.

Now it was time to visit the (almost) girlfriend.

Notes:

We're nearing the end, so as always, what kind of shapeshifter do you think Wednesday will be in the next fanfic? It's going to be a new one, after a few many (two) orders.

The next chapter will probably come out on Monday. Tomorrow I'm going to get a new tattoo! I'm going to tattoo my terrestrial tortoise, Penelope, who has been with me for 12 years!

Chapter Text

Wednesday went to the hospital reception calmly, but her mind wouldn't stop for a second. She longed to know how Enid was doing.

"Can I help you?" The receptionist asked smiling politely at her.

"Enid Sinclair." She answered without further explanation, her ears twitching with anticipation at the sounds.

The receptionist nodded and typed a bit on her computer, pulling a sticker off the desk and handing it to Wednesday.

"Wing B, room 4. Use the sticker as a visitor identifier. Can I see your documents before I go, please?"

Wednesday just took his driver's license out of his pocket and handed it to her, who checked it for a moment and smiled before handing it back.

The shifter walked as fast as she could through the halls, her heart pounding fast and hard. She easily found Room 4 and went inside, knocking twice on the open door to get Enid's attention.

The girl was lying in the hospital bed with her hand in a cast, a venous line with medication running. She absently fiddled with her cell phone while a nurse checked her oxygenation.

The nurse looked up briefly and nodded in greeting. Enid smiled.

"My apologies for the delay, the police took a while to arrive and asked me numerous questions." Wednesday said as she approached.

"It's okay, nothing major happened. I have 3 fractured fingers and apparently stopped feeling pain because of the werewolf genes, even though I explained to the doctor that I'm not fully werewolf."

"About that, I need to tell you something but I don't want you to freak out, okay?"

"Okay..." Enid nodded confusedly, frowning.

"Your mother revealed to me that you are a full-fledged werewolf, just like your father, Murray." Wednesday said it quickly but clearly.

Enid just furrowed her brows even more, an adorable little pout on her lips as she processed the words.

"Murray is your biological father. Your mother didn't tell you because you are the child of adultery with a human."

"Oh, that really explains a lot..." Enid murmured and that was when the nurse decided to leave. "And why the hell did she tell you that and not me?"

"Because I told her the last time you would see her would be in court."

"How is she so sure I'm a werewolf? I mean, I don't even shift." She shrugged.

"Her fault, too. The food she gives you has suppressors, they keep you from transforming. Since you basically stopped eating her food and started eating at my house, the suppressants were no longer ingested and that's when the growling happened. You must transform soon."

Enid just nodded thoughtfully. Wednesday gave her time to think, but after a few minutes they started talking about other things. They talked about Murray's reaction, Enid's stay at the Addams' house and their relationship, which they ended up agreeing to be girlfriends.

After a few hours Enid was released from the hospital and they went to Wednesday's car, heading home.

"I'm still a little shocked that Murray is my biological father. Mainly because now I understand why my mom hated me so much and why he never stood up for me." Enid commented on the way, grabbing a granola bar from her usual spot and eating it.

"You two look a bit alike, but you're a lot like Esther too."

"Ew, don't tell me that. I don't want to be a narcissistic mother who beats her own daughter just because I don't like her." Enid made a face. "If you ever betray me and have a child with anyone else, I'll kill you."

Wednesday just let out a small laugh.

"I'm counting on it, cariño."

"Oh, so you mean we're past the pet name stage, babe?"

"Call me that again and I will drive the car off the first bridge I see."

Enid laughed and kissed her cheek. She blushed slightly and gripped the steering wheel even tighter.

"What are we going to do with it? I can't leave my house open like that, I want to live in it now that my mother is going to prison and my father is going to stay with the pack." Enid asked, looking at the entrance to the house that was destroyed.

"Your father won't live there forever, you know that."

"Yes I know, but I'm not going to tell him about my mother and she was going to move there after I graduated. He'll probably come back when she doesn't show up in about 5 months." Enid shrugged, walking into the house and heading straight for her room.

"Where are you going?"

"I need clothes to stay at your place. I doubt your short pants will fit me!" She yelled from upstairs and Wednesday grumbled, going to her own house to call Gomez. He would find a way to close the doorway.

"Hey! Don't leave me alone in this abandoned house!"

The judgement will be today.

Enid, Gomez and Morticia are sitting in the car, with Enid trying to control her breathing as instructed by the older woman. She was really nervous about it, scared to tell the truth since Murray decided to come back early, 2 months after all those events.

Her hand was already out of a cast, but she still needed physical therapy sessions to improve movement. A few burn marks were still on her skin and would probably never go away, but Wednesday always insisted that they were war scars, which prove how strong she is.

She doubts it a little.

"Inhale..." Morticia said and Enid complied, her eyes closed. "Exhale."

The two stayed like that for a while, until Enid completely calmed down for them to get out of the car. The three entered the building and went to the room where the trial would take place, it wasn't small but it wasn't huge, big enough for people to be able to walk inside without any problem.

The judge, two police officers, and the Addamses' attorney, Cabral, were there. Enid sat in the accuser's seat as they waited for Esther.

Not long after, she arrived. Esther had a police escort and Murray and the lawyer at her side. Murray stared at Enid with daggers in his eyes as soon as he saw her, and she stared back at him, even in fear.

Everyone sat in their seats and the judge tapped the gavel once on the wooden table, starting the trial.

"First of all, I'd like to introduce myself." Esther's lawyer stood up, putting both hands behind his back. "My name is James, and I will defend Esther Sinclair during this trial. I must warn you that I have evidence and witnesses." And then he sat back down, nodding at Esther.

"Since we're doing introductions, I'm guessing it's my turn." Cabral said with a huge smile on his face, getting up and standing in the middle of the room. "I'm Cabral Martins, but you can call me Cabral. I'm not here to accuse Esther, I'm here to defend and protect my client. It is not necessary to say what I have on my side, as everything will be exposed in its own time. I give the floor to the judge."

Cabral sat next to Enid again, smiling at her.

"Accusation begins." The judge said and Cabral got up, going to the middle of the room and clearing his throat before starting to speak.

"Esther Sinclair is being charged with domestic violence, abuse against a minor, covering up a crime and neglect. Am I right?" he asked, receiving a nod from the judge. "Enid, could you tell me when the abuse started?"

"Uh..." Enid visibly shrank back in her chair, all eyes on her now. "I do not remember. The first time... I don't remember."

"The earliest memory you have of this?"

"I think I was about 10 years old, I hadn't taken off my sneakers before entering the house and I ended up getting dirt on the entrance. My- Esther- Esther took the sneaker and hit my face. Many, many times. It's my earliest memory." Enid said quietly, pain ringing in her voice.

"That's a lie!" Esther suddenly screamed. "Do you have anything to prove it? Recordings, witnesses, scars?! Stop lying, Enid, it's not your life on the line!"

She tried to get up, but was grabbed by the two police officers and pushed back into her chair.

"Murray saw it all! He was there by your side while you were doing this, you could tell he didn't want this to be happening, but he didn't do anything to stop you!"

"He hated you as much as I did! And he still does! You've been nothing but a hindrance in our lives!"

"Ladies-"

"You should have killed me when you had the chance then! And it wasn't for lack of trying, was it? Why didn't you ever kill me, Esther? You beat me, spanked me and left me days and days without food, but you never killed me. Why?" Enid asked, this time quietly, both women forgetting they were in a courtroom.

Instead of answering, Esther laughed and shook her head, confusing everyone in the room.

"And how do you think I would hide a fucking corpse?"

"Esther!" Murray exclaimed, taken aback by her confession.

The room was completely silent for a few seconds, until Cabral cleared his throat and put his hands behind his back, looking at the judge.

"I feel like we can take that as a confession, correct?"

The judge nodded and with a frown on his face turned to Esther, who was still silent.

"Do you want to confess anything else?" He asked.

"Yes. I already hit Enid, I already spanked her to tell you the truth, many times I wanted to kill her-"

"Esther, don't!" Murray doubled down, but a look on his face from the judge silenced him.

"I have already choked her, threatened her, and slashed her with my claws. I poisoned her with suppressants every day so she wouldn't be able to change into a wolf. I saw her get her finger cut off by her cousins and I did nothing but attack her to stop her from killing them. When we went to the hospital, I said that she had accidentally cut her finger, all by herself, covering my nephews." She finished, crossing her fingers on the table and looking directly at the judge.

"Normally this would take at least 5 sessions to complete, but confession makes everything obvious and easier. Esther Sinclair, you will spend the rest of your days in jail with no option for a reduced sentence."

"Life imprisonment?!" Esther said and stood up, her eyes desperate. "I thought... I thought telling the truth would cut my sentence by a few years, isn't that what judges do?"

"Some judges, yes. I, however, do not. Abuse your own daughter? An unforgivable crime. Blood or not, she is your daughter, the being you are supposed to protect. Enid Sinclair will now be in the Addamses' care until she turns 18, as they were kind enough to offer that." The judge said and swept his eyes from everyone in the room to Murray. "Officers, arrest this man. He is an accomplice to all of Esther Sinclair's crimes."

Murray struggled a bit with the officers, but since they weren't in open ground, he couldn't transform and was eventually taken away.

Enid, Morticia, and Gomez signed some papers that confirmed that they were at the hearing and that the Addamses were now Enid's legal guardians.

Leaving there without further words, they reached home. Enid said she was going to get some stuff from her own house and headed there, still impressed by the new door with facial and digital recognition. She went through all the rooms, now squeaky clean, with no one there.

Sometimes Wednesday and Enid would stay there alone. No Morticia, Gomes, Murray or anyone else. Just them. They always made the most of it, which was why the couch now had a scratch on it, courtesy of the shifter's claws.

Enid laughed as she looked at the scratch, running her hand over the fabric and sighing. She should be happy now, Esther was in the chair now, Murray would be there too in a few months maybe. Shit, would she have to testify again against a relative?

The legal process took a long time, she also cried a lot, had many panic attacks and Jesus, she didn't even know if she would be able to graduate with so many absences. But that was a problem for the Enid of the future, the Enid of now just wanted a place to lie down.

So she just lay down on the rug and stared at the ceiling, lost in thought, until she fell asleep.

Chapter Text

"I'm serious, Enid. If they mess with you, let me know and I'll take care of them." Wednesday said as she looked at her girlfriend, who was currently in the passenger seat of the car looking at her college entrance.

"It's okay Willa. I promised myself that I would no longer wear gloves and hide my condition, if they mess with me, too bad for them that I'm a werewolf and dating someone who would kill them in moments." Enid replied and smiled, placing a light kiss on Wednesday's forehead. "See you later?"

"I'll pick you up at 7 pm." And then Enid was out of the car, the shifter accelerating and going about her own business that was probably just chasing mice or squirrels all day.

Enid took a deep breath and encouraged herself, entering the building and looking for her classroom. She ended up finding out that it was on the third floor and had to run up the stairs because she was afraid she would be late, but when she got there she found that she was the only person.

She walked into the classroom and sat a little way back, not wanting to draw too much attention on her first day of college. She took out her cell phone and took a picture of herself, sending it to Yoko and Wednesday with the caption "Looks like I was the first one here lol".

Wednesday immediately responded.

Rat Catcher: You are stunning. I worry that someone will try to steal you from me, even though I know it's impossible.

The most beautiful: Nah, if they try and I'll slit their throats just like u taught me!!!

Rat Catcher: Great.

Enid laughed to herself at that, too distracted to notice anyone else in the room.

"Hello?" A girl's voice rang out and Enid looked up only to see a girl looking back at her, looking a little confused. "Is this the fashion course classroom?"

"Hello! I hope so, because if it isn't then I don't know where else it could be." Enid replied and laughed, causing the girl to giggle and move closer.

"My name is Divina, nice to meet you." The girl said and held out her hand. Enid hesitated a bit, but smiled back and squeezed her hand.

"I'm Enid." She introduced herself and sat down again, Divina taking the seat next to her. "Kind of strange that no one's here yet."

"I would find it weirder if it was just me here. But at least there's you, so maybe everyone else went to the wrong classroom?"

"Wait a minute, we're supposed to be in room 9, right?" Enid asked and got up, going to the entrance of the room and looking at the numbers, squinting to try to see. "Shit, this is room 4, not 9! Fucking myopia!"

She quickly went back inside, grabbing her backpack and running outside with Divina. They arrived at the classroom, Divina knocking on the door and quickly entering when the teacher allowed it.

The two went to sit down and ended up getting too close to the teacher, due to lack of seats.

"You use glasses?" Divina asked quietly.

"No, but I probably should. My myopia is pretty high. Didn't you realize it was the wrong classroom?"

"In my defense, all the rooms have the numbers half off. And the numbers are on the top of the door, it's hard to see."

"Would you two like to introduce yourselves?" A thick, authoritative voice rang out, and they looked up only to see the professor looking at them.

"Excuse me?" Divina asked, confused.

"Would you like to introduce yourselves? Since you've been talking since the moment you walked in here." He crossed his arms.

"Uh..." Divina stammered and the professor snorted, mocking the situation.

Enid stood up, smiling at everyone in the class.

"Hello! My name is Enid Sinclair!"

"Hello Enid." A chorus of voices rang out as all the students responded.

The professor snorted again, starting the lesson.

Enid handed the activity to the professor, not missing the way he looked at her hand. It was still scarred and the skin was thick and slightly darkened, but it worked perfectly.

He looked at the worksheet and marked all the answers as correct, looking seriously at Enid before starting to speak.

"Enid, you seem like a very skillful, sociable, and intelligent girl." he began, making her tilt her head in confusion.

"Yes...?"

"But are you sure this is the right course for you?"

"What do you mean by that?" Enid asked, her heart pounding in her chest with anxiety.

"I mean, we're going to have to do a lot of manual work. Sewing by hand, gluing things, cutting... And with your... Condition, I don't think that's possible." He concluded, and the whole room became background noise for Enid.

Her ears buzzed and she felt the anger rise, grabbing his collar and lifting him out of the chair. His eyes widened in panic as he gripped her wrist, trying to free himself.

"You do not know anything about me. You can't assume things about me just because you've seen a piece of my body that isn't the way you expected it to be. Finger or no finger, I'm still a werewolf and I can still rip your head off." She said it quietly, just for him to hear and not noticing that the classroom was completely silent.

"E-enid..."

She released him and he nearly fell to the ground, managing to catch himself. She ran and grabbed her backpack, ignoring the stares from the other students and running outside. She went into the first bathroom she found and locked herself in a stall, sitting on the floor and taking deep breaths as she tried to hold back her tears.

Enid picked up her cell phone and saw that Yoko had sent a message, but ignored it as she dialed Wednesday's number. She was the only one allowed to call her, so Wednesday would know who it was on the first ring.

"Enid?" She asked as soon as she answered the call, noticing her girlfriend's unsteady breathing. "What happened?"

"My professor- he said some horrible things to me. I think I want to get out of here. Can you pick me?" Enid asked wiping a few lonesome tears that dared to fall, getting to her feet.

"I'll be there in 5 minutes."

Enid nodded, even though she knew Wednesday wouldn't see it, and ended the call. She took a few deep breaths and did her best to calm down and look presentable before exiting the bathroom and heading outside, finding her girlfriend's car already in front of the building.

She quickly got into the car, strapping herself in and turning to face the murderous gremlin who was already looking at her for answers.

"What's his name?" She asked quietly, and Enid could see the glint of a blade protruding from her wrist that was on the doorknob.

"Jefferson, but you don't have to do anything, I swear, I already took care of him. It's just- what he told me was all I thought about before I decided to go to college. The doubts, whether I was going to be able to do manual labor and everything and him throwing it in my face like it was nothing, hurt."

"My love, you are more than capable of doing this. And I'm not thinking about your finger right now, I'm thinking about you. You are the most creative and colorful person I know, making clothes will be nothing for you. It'll be like hiding a dead body, easy." Wednesday comforted her, but she just grimaced at the comparison.

"Is hiding a body that easy?"

"That's not the point. But you get what I mean, don't you? I know you'll make it." The shifter smiled slightly, planting a kiss on Enid's cheek. "Now, I'm really tight and I need to go to the bathroom. Wait for me here." And then she got out of the car, walking into the building.

Enid knew she wasn't going to go to the bathroom, but she didn't comment on that, not even when her girlfriend came back slightly out of breath, an amused smile on her face.

And she didn't comment when Jefferson showed up the next day with too much makeup trying to cover up his black eye. Not even when he almost pissed himself when he saw her.

She loved having a tiny, murderous girlfriend.

Well, the reasons I took so long to update was that I didn't know how to finish this fanfic and I didn't have time to think about it. I thought the ending was good, but that's up to you. See you next time!
