Chapter Text

It was late in the evening when Chuuya finally started to get ready to go home. Closing his computer, organizing his paper work, putting his hat back on. Then, making sure he has his house keys, phone and wallet on him, before turning to leave.

Not many people were out and about in the hallways as he descended the tower that was his work place. Most were either at home, or were out on late night missions, doing the dirty work of the mafia. He preferred doing the dirty work over the mountains of paperwork, and reports.

Chuuya liked late nights of missions, since he got to run around and cause havoc. Yet he was doing paper work more often than not. Somewhere in his mind, he knew that the week would consist of late nights at his desk. It made him wish he could be rebellious like Akutagawa, and get other people to do his paper work.

Thoughts of work distract him as he walks home. He’d walked to work earlier in the day, when it was warm, and he’d wanted to grab a drink on the way. A part of him wished he’d driven, since he would already be home and having a warm bath before bed.

Of course, he could use his ability to get home quicker, but he knew it always drew some attention to him. Which was why he walked, besides getting some fresh air after being cooped up all day. It did help him get all his thoughts out before getting home, and that led to more restful evenings.

Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t even notice the man in front of him, until he walked right into him. Falling back, he landed on the sidewalk, and he looked at his hands to make sure they weren’t scraped. Seeing no blood, his gaze travelled up, to the stranger he’d run into.

“I apologize for running into you, are you alright?” the man was already trying to make sure Chuuya was alright.

“Yeah, think I just got some dirt on my clothes. Nothing I can’t wash out,” Chuuya told him, glad that it hadn’t been anything more.

A hand was offered to him, which he took, “Still, I should make it up to you. You could have gotten hurt.”

Thinking for a moment, he knew what he wanted from the man, who was rather attractive, “A date could make it up to me.”

“Alright, we should probably exchange numbers,” the man said without hesitating, like being asked out wasn’t a big deal. “Here.”

Chuuya took the phone and put his number in, alongside his first name. He didn’t want to risk getting recognized by his last name, and then scare the guy off. Although, the more he looked at him, the more he seemed like the strong type who could hold his ground.

“Can I get your name?” Chuuya asked, wanting to know who he’d just asked out.

“Suehiro Tecchou, everyone I know just calls me Tecchou though,” Tecchou told him.

Smiling at him, he responded, “Well, Tecchou, I’ll see you soon.”

Then, he continued walking, leaving the brunette behind him. Or at least he tried to.

“You dropped something,” Tecchou told him, after running after him.

“Oh, thanks,” he accepted his own wallet from the man. “You’re quite the gentleman.”

A hint of a smile tugged on the other’s lips, “I think it is important to return things to those they belong to.

Chuuya couldn’t help but laugh, “Not many people would return a wallet to someone without taking their money, as I’ve learned. So, it’s nice of you to have not done that.”

“People who do that must have justice come for them,” Tecchou seriously replied, making it clear this was an important topic to him.

“I don’t mind losing some money, I’m more than well off. If someone else needs it more than me, and saves me the hassle of getting a new ID, then I see it as a win,” he spoke softly, since he knew that this topic could also be important to him.

Without missing a beat, Tecchou had a response, “It seems you’re the truly kind one, letting people take your money.”

Chuuya was pleased that he didn’t say anything about the people stealing. But he wanted to tell Tecchou that he was not kind, at least not when it mattered. He’d kill anyone if he was ordered, no matter what. Even when his heart ached, not wanting to harm a child.

He knew the other was waiting for him to speak, “I guess, to me, kindness has always been helping people who need it.”

“Then I can only assume you’re very kind, I am looking forward to knowing more about your kindness,” Tecchou says it like it isn’t a big deal.

After saying that, he leaves, and Chuuya is left staring because Tecchou thinks he’s a kind man. He does not know the crimes the redhead has committed, so he only sees kindness. For once, Chuuya wants someone who is outside the darkness of his job, just to have a taste of the light.

It would be lovely to keep Tecchou in his life, but he fears the single date will be all he gets. A single taste of the true goodness, and light that is out of reach for him. Chuuya knows he thrives in the dark, but still he wants to harbour kindness, and then spread it.

The date, in his mind, will be enough of a taste of something good. Then he’ll leave, and hold the good from it with him, until inevitably, he loses it. Forgets about the kind man who brought helped him up, and brought him back his wallet.

Thoughts of Tecchou being too good for him stay, as he gets home, and throws some leftovers in the microwave. As he sits on his couch eating, with a glass of wine. Even as he sinks into his tub for a late night bath, with warm water that engulfs him. Laying below the water until he needs to come up for air, then relaxing against the tub, to sit, and soak.

Chuuya knows that he will only drag Tecchou down, so he intends to only have one date with him. Just a taste of that kindness, before he let him go. He didn’t deserve such kindness, he knew that in his mind. He would just ruin Tecchou, just like every person he’s ever been close to before. They’re all gone because of his darkness.

Good things don’t last, and he doesn’t want Tecchou to just be another good thing he destroys.
