Chapter 1: The beginning

Chapter Text

“ We’d just like to do a bit of testing, It’s all a part of the procedures.” The nurse said, flashing a kind
smile.

Aizawa didn’t think much of it. Didn’t think much of it when the nurse said he needed to sample some of Shouto's urine.
Shouto didn’t look uncomfortable so it didn’t really matter, all a part of the procedure.

That was all completely incorrect.

The day after they had sampled Shouto's urine, the nurse came into Shouto’s hospital room looking regretful.
That look didn’t fit the usual smiley nurse so the face alone immediately put Aizawa on edge.

Aizawa set down the book he had been reading to Shouto, open face down on the little nightstand beside Shouto’s hospital bed.

“ The test results came back from the sample.” The nurse began, holding a clipboard in his hands.
“ It came back positive for pregnancy.”

Aizawas eyes grew wide and he could see from the corner of his eyes that Shouto’s mouth was agape.

“ What…?” Shouto was the first one to say something. She sounded so confused and scared Aizawa wanted to wrap her up in a tight hug. But instead he continued to stare dumbly at the nurse before pulling himself together.

“ When did the results come in?” Not that it was important. It didn’t matter when the results came in, what was done was done.

“ This morning, a little while after I came in with Miss Shouto’s food.”

Aizawa was at a loss for words. What was he even supposed to say?

“ I-i don’t understand…” Shouto said quietly, her words wavering. “ I thought you guys gave me that pill to stop something like this.”
The nurse smiled sympathetically, “ We did, but they don’t always work.”
Aizawa finally stood up from his chair to comfort Shouto. He wrapped his arms firmly but gently around her shaking frame.
“ It’ll be okay. I promise Shouto everything will be okay.”

The nurse looked slightly uncomfortable, shifting on his feet and scratching the back of his head.

“ I’ll leave you two alone for a bit.” He said, making his way towards the door.

As soon as the door closed after the nurse Aizawa heard a choked sob.
He looked down at Shouto and could see her hands covering her mouth attempting to stifle the sounds she was making.

“ Hey, hey,” Aizawa said wiping away the tears from Shouto’s eyes.
“Shhhh, it’ll be okay.” He said, running his hand through her hair.
Shouto shook her head, more sounds coming from her mouth.
Shouto let her hands fall to her side and sucked in a short breath.
“ This is all my fault.” She sobbed, her hands now coming to cling to Aizawa’s shirt.
“ No, it isn’t,” Aizawa said firmly. “ This the fault of every adult who didn’t see the signs of what was happening at home, including me.”

“ It's not your fault sensei,” Shouto said, through sobs. “ I never should have run away. I should have just taken what I had coming. I should have let him kill me!”

Aizawa’s hand paused in her hair.

Kill her? Endeavor was going to kill her?

“ That’s wrong Shouto,” Aizawa said, continuing his stroking.
“ If he was going to kill you, I’m glad you ran away. I just wish I had been there before you had gotten too far from home.”

Shouto sobbed harder, pulling at Aizawa’s shirt.

“ But what’s done is done. I don’t like it, but there’s nothing we can do to change what happened. I know it’s hard but everything is going to be okay.”
Shout continued to sob against Aizawa’s shirt, and he let her. Whispering sweet nothing to her all while stroking her hair.

Later, the doctor came in to discuss Shouto’s options.

He explained that if she did not want to keep the child she could get an abortion, or when the child was born she could give it up for adoption.

“ I want to keep the baby.” Shouto interrupted the doctor. Aizawa glanced at her eyes slightly wide.
She didn’t look uncertain, she looked determined.
“ I don’t want to abandon it.”

The doctor looked taken aback but quickly recovered.

“ Alright well, you have plenty of time to prepare for the baby. You’ll need to come in for monthly check-ups to make sure your body isn’t reacting negatively to the pregnancy. You’re young and being pregnant might put strain on your body.
Do you have any diseases we don’t know about?”

Shouto shook her head.

“ Alright, that’s good, that’s good. You’ll be released later today-”
Shouto stopped listening by this point.
She was so, so tired.

Aizawa squeezed her hand.

Reminding her that everything would be okay.

Aizawa held her hand as they both made their way out of the hospital.
Aizawa helped her into his car and they made their way to Aizawa’s apartment.

Aizawa rolled down the window halfway as they drove, some random talk show was also playing on the radio and Shouto found herself taking comfort in the noise.

Her house was always too quiet.
The only sound every being her screams and cries and Endeavors’s yells.

Shouto never liked that house. It was honestly more like a prison. Ever since she was little, Shouto dreamed of running away with her mother. Going somewhere far away, maybe even out of Japan, just to get away from that hell hole.
She mostly wanted her mother to get away.

At the age of four Shouto had seen something that left a mark on her forever.

( “ Father! Stop what are you doing to her?!” Little Shouto yelled, standing in shock in the doorway of her parents master bedroom.
She had been too young to know what he was doing to her, all she knew was her mom was naked and screaming in pain.
Shouto ran into the room, climbing on the the bed and attempting to pull her father away.
“ Get off of Mama!” Shouto screamed, her hands grabbed at the skin of her father's arm since she had no clothes to grab on to.
“ S-shouto, sweet-heart, p-please leave. Mama’s okay.”
“ No!” Shouto sobbed, trying desperately to get Endeavor off of her mother.
“ You stupid girl.” Endeavor growled, pulling out of Rei.
Rei let out a loud sob.

Endeavor pushed Shouto off of the bed harshly. Shouto hit the ground with a loud bump.

“ Shouto, baby!” Rei screamed, attempting to get off the bed to check on her daughter.
Endeavor pushed her back down on the bed, ignoring Shouto, who was now sobbing on the ground.

“ I’m sorry, Mama.” Shouto whispered, as her Mother screamed in pain.)

That was the last thing Shouto remembered. She didn’t realize until she was eleven what had actually been going on in that room. From then on, she always got nauseated when she passed the master-bedroom.

“ Shouto?”

Shouto’s head snapped up to meet Aizawa’s concerned eyes.

“ h-huh?”

“ We’re here.” Aizawa repeated, studying her.

Shouto glanced outside the window. They were in the parking lot of a small apartment complex. It looked cute and homey and was surprisingly fitting for Aizawa.

“ It’s nice.” Shouto said, just to fill the awkward silence.

Aizawa blinked as if snapped out of deep thought. Aizawa nodded belatedly, “ I think so too.”

He stepped out of the car, then opened Shouto’s car door and helped her out.

When they got inside, Shouto wasn’t surprised by the four cats that greeted her.

While at the hospital, Aizawa talked in length about his four cats and how cute they were, and all had very different personalities.
Shouto loved hearing Aizawa talk about his cats. She was surprised when she realized that her serious, intimidating teacher was a rambler. She didn’t mind, he wasn’t at the level of Midoriya, but multiple times Aizawa stopped mid-sentence and quickly finished what he had been saying in a lame slightly anti-climactic way.

Aizawa led her to the couch, where she sat down with a sigh.

“ Is there anything you need Shouto? Anything that would make you more comfortable?”

Shouto shook her head.

She felt pretty normal, other than being sore in odd places.

“ I’m just kinda tired.” Shouto yawned, petting one of the cats that had jumped in her lap.
It purred happily as Shouto scratched under his chin.

“ I’ll get the guest bedroom set up for you.” Aizawa said, heading in that direction.

After two minutes Shouto felt her eyes grow heavy. She looked in the direction Aizawa had left. She didn’t want to fall asleep before Aizawa came back, that seemed rude.

But, despite her efforts, Shouto’s eyes slipped shut and she fell into a deep slumber.
