Summary
The surface was calling to her. It called to her as it hadn't for many, many long moon turns.
Long enough that there were days where she honestly forgot of her life before.
Before she had taken her mare to the river's edge and found herself bred by the Creature that lived there just the same as her mare.
Before she had instinctually welcomed the Creature back to her bed as the waning crescent moon had hung in the sky.
Before she had birthed the child sired on her by the feared Creature from her human - her very mortal - body.
Before she had bled out her mortal life's blood from that very mortal body even as the Creature's offspring had slithered free from her womb.
Before her creature, her mate had claimed her and been claimed by her in turn after it had woken the fae-creature long dormant beneath her human flesh.
Before she had embraced her life beneath the surface of the water, in the wide bend in the river.
But this night, one that echoed the oddly bright moonrise despite the barest sliver of moon that hung in the sky of the ones where her Creature had planted their offspring within her womb, she felt the call of the surface.
