"Hey Gwen, I have an idea. "
"Yeah?"
"You should take me to meet your dad!"
"W-what?!"
Gwen sat shocked at his offer, why would he want to do that.
"You've met my parents, and while that didn't quite go well. I feel like I could make a good first impression."
"Have you forgotten you've already "met" my dad?"
Oh yeah...Miles had met him before, but that could barely count as a meeting as it entailed of her poor dad walking through the door to catch the 2 snuggling on the sofa and then could only watch as Miles jumped out the window. Frankly that's the worst possible first impression, but Miles felt he could recoup that.
"Well yeah, but it's about time I make up for that. Cmonn" he said as he lightly shook her.
"...Fine, just...don't say too much"
"Oh I'll be good, I'm not nearly as awkward as you" he said with a smirk.
Gwen gave him an exasperated look "I wasn't ready to meet your parents before! And This coming from the same guy who could barely talk to me without sweating when we first met, and kept saying dumb things?"
"That was a long time ago, and you were saying dumb things too, "Gwanda". And only reason I was sweating like that because I was talking to such a pretty girl" he said with a sly smirk.
Gwen sighed "Ugh, can you give it a rest, you're not nearly as charming as you think you are. I just like you".
Miles' smirk only widened "If I'm not as charming as I think then why is it that you like me".
"Because of many other reasons outside of that, duh".
"I can tell you're trying to change the subject, come on it'll be fine." he said as he lightly shook her.
After a minute of him pestering her and him bargaining things that he knew enticed her she finally relented.
"Ugh...fine just...watch what you say. My dad isn't the most judging person, but...still".
Miles gave her a quick kiss "It'll be fine, We've handled much worse than meeting a parent by now".
She slightly laughed at that statement "Yeah yeah...just come on Spider-Man."
Gwen wasn't exactly scared to introduce her dad to Miles properly, just...what if he didn't like him? What if there were issues and he went into full-dad overprotective mode? What if he told Miles embarrassing stories...okay maybe she was a little scared but who could blame her.
She never even introduced another friend to her dad after Peter died (mainly because she didn't have any...) and now she's introducing him to the inter-dimensional love of her life...did she just call Miles the love of her life?
Thought for another day, what mattered was hoping this didn't go bad. Miles ever the optimist looked super confident he would nail this.
Gwen determined it would be best to walk through the apartment door like normal people while wearing their regular clothes, and there they stood.
Gwen took out the key and looked at it in her hand before looking at Miles "yknow I just remembered I forgot something in your dimension let's-"
"No putting this off Gwen" he said with a smirk as he started to put the key into the lock...wait when did he get that. She looked at her hands before she heard Miles speak.
"Don't watch the mouth, watch th-" he was interrupted by webbing to his mouth that caught him off guard.
He stepped back as she slowly pushed the door open to see her dad standing in the kitchen.
"Hey Gwen, back so soon?"
"Yeah, actually there's someone i want you to meet..." she said as she motioned to Miles who was still struggling to pull the webbing off his mouth.
Her dad looked very confused, but instantly recognized who that boy was.
"You're that boy I caught with her...and the boy on that picture Gwen hid in her room"
Miles finally managed to pull the web off and put on a smile "Yes sorry about that...I'm Miles, nice to meet you, sir" he said as he offered a hand to shake.
"Please, you can call me George. I wanted to meet you for awhile but decided not to push Gwen into making it happen, she gets like that sometimes".
Miles chuckled "You don't have to tell me, it was my idea to come here today, she-"
Gwen cleared her throat "I'm right here...y'all met come on Miles let's go-"
Miles shot her a glance before speaking up again "Also, you mentioned a picture she hid in her room, of what exactly?"
"Some picture of you and her on a bus with some guy's legs in the background. Used to wonder what she would always avoid showing me when she would daydream all the time. Figured out it was that after she left on her dimension escapade"
Miles nodded and looked back at Gwen, with such a big teasing grin she knew she would never hear the end of this.
Gwen glared "Don't look at me like that...at least I don't have a sketchbook filled wi-"
Her father interrupted "So Miles, tell me more about yourself"
Miles smirked and looked over to Gwen who looked ready to melt into the floor "I'm from another dimension, I'm Spider-Man there, I'm currently a sophomore at vision's academy, trying to get into college, and...I'm an artist."
"Oh that's quite a lot to take in...I'm gonna need some time to digest all that. Why don't we all sit down so we can take things a bit slower"
Miles nodded enthusiastically and Gwen just sighed and prepared for this next hour of torture.
The conversation actually went well, Miles casually explained things and made jokes while Gwen's father passively reacted and even chuckled a few times. Gwen even started to loosen up and think this wasn't as bad of an idea after all.
George looked up in thought "Crazy to think those few days she was gone she was in another universe...and came back with a new haircut"
"Oh, well...I'm the reason she got that haircut"
George eyebrow raised as he silently asked for more information.
"When I first introduced myself to her, I uh...tried to use a flirting technique my uncle taught me. I had just gotten my powers the night before, and my hands stuck to her hair. Needless to say Gwen wasn't pleased with me, but she's with me now so...I'll take it?"
Gwen glared at him "You're lucky you are charming, having a hand print on the side of my head was the worst. And you really thought touching my shoulder and saying "Hey" would make you fall into your arms?"
Miles shrugged and smirked "Well in the moment it didn't work, but look at you now. You're basically connected to me like glue now, so I'd say mission success".
Gwen rolled her eyes "Yeah if you can't tell dad, Miles is a bit of a goof. That's barely a start to all the embarrassing things he's done".
They continued to go back and forth as George watched, it was a good feeling to see his daughter be...happy again. He rarely even saw her smile after Peter died and it only got worse as time went on. He may feel a bit hesitant to see his little girl with a boy but he couldn't deny her this. Not after everything she'd been through.
George chuckled "Well...even if he's a goof, I can tell he really makes you happy. Can't thank you enough for that Miles...really been years since i seen such joy on her face" .
Miles rubbed the back of his head "Yeah, it's not issue Mr. St-I mean...George. I just have that effect on people".
Before Gwen could comment Miles watch went off. meaning his parents must've ringed the device he gave them if they wanted to contact him when he's doing his universe jumping. "Well...that means I have to go, but it was nice to meet you. Maybe one day you can meet my parents somehow".
George nodded "Perhaps, your dad's a cop right? Would be nice to meet another one of those who had to father a spider-powered teenager"
Miles gave his final goodbyes and kissed Gwen on the forehead before leaving out the window to open his portal.
Gwen looked over to her dad "So...do you like him?"
"He seems like a good kid, very bright and cheery I can tell. So if he makes you happy...I'm happy"
Gwen sighed "That's good and yeah..he is amazing..."
"Though one thing Gwen...if you're gonna have him over, just don't do things with him on the couch. I sleep there sometimes and you have a room for a reason".
Gwen blushed "O-okay dad..."
Gwen hung out in her dimension for awhile longer, talking to her dad and doing typical crime-fighting. She wanted to see Miles again, but she held herself back. She didn't want to be THAT much of a clingy girlfriend even though they felt the same way about each other.
After getting back from a rather annoying encounter with Vulture, this time her vulture to be specific, she just wanted to take a shower and go to sleep. She walked into her room and took her mask off, only to hear a familiar voice.
"So...what did he think?"
Gwen jumped at the unexpected encounter "Miles!? What did I tell you about doing that!"
Miles uncloaked himself and laughed "Sorry sorry, i just never get sick of your shock. Forgive me?" he said with a flirty grin.
She rolled her eyes and lightly shoved him "Save it, anyways from what I can tell he approves. He's just...happy to see me happy. After the whole identity reveal fiasco I don't think anything can phase him anymore. Not even a boyfriend."
Miles pumped his hand excitedly "Well I'd call that a success, now we just need to get my dad to like you".
Gwen chuckled "I don't even think he dislikes me anymore, considering all we ended up doing to save his life...but he still calls me emo which i hate".
He laughed a bit too hard on that and Gwen didn't feel like interrogating him at the moment about what's so funny about her being called emo so she just sat on her bed and beckoned him over.
Miles sat next to her and wrapped his arm around her "He just asks why I couldn't just find a girl in my own dimension, besides that he's coming around even though he says we should put on a do not disturb sign on my door to save him the eye torture."
Gwen laughed "That was ONE time".
She leaned her head on his shoulder and they sat in silence for a moment.
"Miles...you ever think how crazy this really is. Dating when we're from 2 different dimensions, we're putting every other long distance relationship to shame. Not to mention how this goes against all the universal rules I was told about."
"It's certainly not conventional, but I'd have it no other way. I think I've proven I do my own thing, not even the multiverse can tell me otherwise".
Gwen looked at him fondly "And that's what I love about you..."
He leaned in to kiss her and she reciprocated, before it could go any further the door opened.
"Hey Gwen I'm about to-".
George watched awkwardly as Gwen seemed to swing her arms around at nothing in front of her.
"You okay?"
"Oh yes I'm fine dad haha just...a fly, yes a fly".
"Okay...well i brought some food back it's in the kitchen, I gotta go take care of some things I'll be back later."
Gwen nodded and waved awkwardly as her dad closed the door. She then turned her attention to the invisible menace.
Miles uncloaked and laughed "Woo that could've been bad."
"No thanks to you, we could've been caught!"
Miles watched as Gwen pouted, and he found it unbearably cute. So he stood and picked her up and spun her around.
"Hey! Put me down!" she said behind a half giggle.
George held the door open and listened to his daughter's laughter and false anger at the boy. Really did make him feel much better, that she had someone in her life to provide her the happiness he always couldn't. Quietly he exited the apartment with a smile at this new chapter for the most important person in his life.
