He would never get the hint to sit down. Hiccup really underestimated just how restless he would become. Although, maybe he should have harboured a guess. There was a reason Viggo had bags under his eyes. Hiccup simply watched him pace, hoping he would exhaust himself then finally lay down. With the injuries he was recovering from, Hiccup was lucky he wasn't trying to exert himself more.
"I know it's been two weeks, but you're really trying to push it," Hiccup crossed his arms.
"Staying lying down would only cause soreness when I finally can go out and about. I need to at least ensure some movement so they're won't be pain later on."
"It's not like you're going to fly into battle with us."
"Why not? I've established a bond of companionship with the Skrill, I could be valuable to you."
"Or instead trying to rush your recovery will lead to you passing out in the skies right as they're shooting at you. Better you heal properly then quick and have to deal with other consequences."
"And you're trying to convince me that you allowed yourself to recover when healing from losing your leg?" Viggo looked to him skeptically.
Hiccup couldn't stop his eyes from widening. "Well I am mean it was different for me. I was told I was in a coma for a week since the battle with the Red Death- better I actually try walking to learn to adjust to the leg,"
"Losing part of your leg is different from four arrows to the back. I won't need to learn to walk differently from the wounds near the spine."
"Yes, but your vitals had damage that we were lucky were reparable. My leg is just blood loss."
"But there's still continued pain from exerting your leg. Especially with your flying ability. The mechanism you have to rely on."
"You on the back of a dragon with a bent back isn't going to help you fare any better."
Viggo took Hiccup's hand in his. "It seems we have our own injuries to bear now."
"Yours are more- visible- than mine." Hiccup raised a hesitant hand to the facial burns.
He leaned forward, until the two of them could share breaths.
"Have you ever shown them to anyone else?" He whispered.
"My friends. They've seen them when we take a swim. Or, when I'm leaving the washhouse. But, not in any intimate way, since you're thinking like-"
Their eyes locked. Closing the little distance until their foreheads rested together. He tilted his head upward first, lips brushing his. Awaiting his okay to continue. Viggo's hand settled at his waist and pulled Hiccup close, lips pressing together. At first Hiccup opened his eyes in surprise, marveling at the sudden jolt shooting from his mouth to his stomach, but at continuing to shift his lips against his, the sensation settled. He eased his eyes shut, tucking his hand into Viggo's finely trimmed hair. Noting that they now held each other in an embrace.
Eventually they had to separate to take breaths, Hiccup stepping away and Viggo watching him in a daze.
"I think we've both been waiting for that for a while, huh?"
Viggo gave a single dip of his head. He approached Hiccup again, hand on his neck and the other at his cheek to move his head toward him, placing another kiss on his lips then moving to his jaw. Hiccup wrapping his arms around Viggo's back to pull him. The back of his knees hit the bed. Viggo reached down, pulling his tunic off. While he shifted it over the bandages, Hiccup went to unclasping his arm braces. When he went to the buckles for his shoulder guards, Viggo's hands covered his.
"May I?" He asked.
At Hiccup's nod, Viggo slid his fingers beneath the leather armor.
"I always did appreciate the detail you made on these." Holding the one bearing Toothless' image.
"I've even started to work on new ones."
"You haven't shown me those." Viggo set to glancing toward the first level.
"Another time." Hiccup draped an arm over Viggo's neck.
Viggo hovered over him as he came to placing kisses along Hiccup's neck.
"You still need to be careful," Hiccup breathlessly whispered. "The band-"
Viggo's lips took his. Hiccup gave a small 'hmm' of pleasure. Now welcoming the warm feeling coursing through his torso, the dizzy feeling in his head at their mouths melding into one another's. He thought he heard the sound of the door sliding open, but his main focus was at how Viggo was slowly trailing a finger over one of his lichtenburg scar-
"Hiccup!"
He nearly fell off the bed from pushing Viggo aside, seeing Astrid standing at the edge of the stairs. Toothless behind her with a questioning, yet he could swear chiding, look.
"Yeah," He placed a hand on Viggo's chest, "what's up?"
"There's- a Terror mail. We need to-"
"Sure. You can show me."
Although the warm feeling had frozen at seeing her expression. How her eyes had narrowed, a fist clenched at seeing Viggo's position. Hiccup leapt from the bed, blocking him from her view. He went to pull on his tunic and was arranging his armor as they left the hut.
"I'm sorry, it really wasn't going to go anywhere and I shouldn't have been-"
"Hiccup, I'm not mad."
"Then why the face?"
"It's just- I mean it'll take me a while to get over it. Everything he did when we faced off against him. The fact that we have him here."
"Right."
It would be a different thing to apologize for kissing their former enemy.
"I don't think I could ever forgive him."
"And you don't have to." Hiccup answered. "But, I guess what I'm doing doesn't improve matters."
Astrid offered a short laugh. "I can't entirely blame you. You're- better- at forgiveness than any of us. I mean the twins never really take anything at full offense, but they can stay steadfast. You though, someone could have tried to kill you, and you'll later rely on their help so we can take down someone else. And Viggo..."
"He did do a lot."
"I guess I'd want to know, did you ever think he would truly come around?"
Hiccup looked to his hut.
"It barely occurred to me. It was- him and Ryker. Attacking the dragons then threatening Heather to get the Dragon Eye. The game he made me- us play. And when he asked for my help after what Johann and Krogan did, I guess I didn't realize I liked him in some way."
"Hiccup, he always liked you. He could've killed you when he had the Flightmare freeze you and Toothless. But he let you live. He's always an admiration for you, why am I trying to water it down- he was infatuated with you."
"Infatuation leads to a bounty being put on your head?" Hiccup asked.
"It leads to working with your enemy to kill your own flesh and blood."
"And Heather?"
"She didn't know." Astrid amended. "Even after she knew, it was a long road to forgiveness."
"Right, I'm sorry. You go at your own pace."
"How was it, though?"
Hiccup sighed in ecstasy. "I didn't realize I could feel like this."
