The Vampire and His Sister

Summary:

When Sam and Dean encounter a little girl with blood stains as a prime suspect in a few supernatural murders, they follow her to find her helping out her older brother..who's a vampire.

Notes:

Hiya! So this is my first fanfic. I posted it on Wattpad but I'm posting it here because I like Ao3 more. Anyway, enjoy!

Chapter 1: The Meet

Chapter Text

Dean and Sam watch as a skinny teen digs through the pink and gold bag the younger girl just took off her shoulders. The teen pulls out an O+ blood bag and opens their mouth, revealing the fangs of a vampire. They begin drinking blood next to the little girl as she watches. The girl has blood stains on her clothes, but they aren’t visible due to the dark green and gray of her clothing. It’s hard to believe that just a few minutes ago, she was seen as a civilian, not someone who would aid a vampire.

The South Coastal library, located in Bethany Beach, Delaware, is where Dean and Sam have found themselves researching ret murders that have gone down. 2 bodies around there have shown up, heartless, in the span of a year. This wouldn’t usually draw the boys' attention, just an open and shut werewolf case, but hearts and blood seeming to be collected instead of drunken right there made the boys decide to visit Delaware. Well, made Sam decide anyway.

Dean was dragged along, kicking and screaming. He didn’t believe it was anything worth their time, just a wild animal like the reports suggest. But here he is, sitting at a library table, sifting through papers about the murders and what they could be. Trying to see if they have anything in common, or if it was just 2 random attacks (which is what it seems like). While Sam is across the table on his computer looking around in the lore to see what eats both hearts and blood. He is convinced there is something he’s just not seeing, cause when has it ever been just “a wild animal”?

Dean sighs and leans back in his chair, still looking at the piece of paper that has the details of both victims' deaths. This caught Sam’s attention, as he looked up from his computer over to Dean. “Find anything?” Sam asks, whispering as to not disturb the woman with her little boy at the chairs near the table they’re sitting at.

“Jack,” Dean grunts, leaning back forward to a straight-ish position, “You sure this is our thing? ‘Cause so far the only lead we have is a pre-teen.”

He recalls the short girl with medium light brown hair and green eyes, who seemed to have been seen 2 miles from both crime scenes. They met up with someone that matched the witnesses' descriptions, and she called herself Amy. She seemed to be in a hurry to get to the library, which is the one they’re at right now. Dean and Sam found it odd that she was by herself, that she was acting so frantic, and that she had blood on her clothes, so they decided to follow her.

“You heard Jody, could just be an animal attack,” Dean continues a little quieter, shrugging his shoulders a bit.

“An animal attack that also causes blood bags to go missing?” Sam raised an eyebrow

“Well there are a lot of kids in the area, it could be one of them pulling a stupid prank?” Dean suggests. It is October after all, stupid teens doing stupid pranks are expected.

Sam opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out as he looks away to think. “But I was..so sure,” he muttered.

Dean was trying to think of how to make his brother feel better when a familiar dark green sweatshirt came passing by. Amy seemed to be in even more of a hurry to get out than she was to get in. The way she was fast walking out of there put Dean on edge. “We should probably follow ‘Amy’ anyways, just to be safe,” he suggested. That seemed to brighten Sam’s mood a bit, as he said “Alright” and immediately closed his laptop and began to put the stuff back in his bag.

They follow Amy for about 20 minutes. It would’ve been shorter if she didn’t go all different directions, and the boys had to stop for gas + snacks (well, Dean mostly). When they finally saw Amy go behind a house, which made sense, as the doors and windows were boarded up with a “Private Property” sign in front, they went up the street to park the car in a thrift store parking lot. When they walked back, they studied the house. It was pretty old, the roof was caving in a bit, and the previously mentioned “Private Property” sign was a bit rusty itself too. It was a brown wooden house, with light blue around the windows and door frames, and with a white roof. It looked more like a hut than a house. Sam and Dean give each other a look before they realize they were kinda out in the open, and quickly followed the way Amy went, Dean going first.

When they reached the back, they saw the back looked a lot like the front, except the boards seemed to be knocked down, and the private property sign was being used almost like a doormat. The backyard seemed to be a bit tidier than expected, but it was still pretty much nature's battlefield. The grass was a bit overgrown, but there were also a few baby dandelions growing, along with tiny white and purple flowers. There were no weeds, but a few thorn bushes were growing around the back of the house itself, making it difficult to enter without getting your pants caught or scratched.

They somehow made it inside without getting caught much on the pricker bushes, though Dean did get a little scratch on the arm, it won’t leave a mark. Just be annoying. Once they step inside they are hit with the smell of mold and dust. They see old chairs and papers scattered around tables, as well as the floor. The floor was carpeted, a light tan color, and it was that way down the short and thin hallway to the left. On the right was meant to be a kitchen, but with no stove or refrigerator, it would be hard to tell. There is a cooler where a fridge should be, but other than that it’s just a room with counters, cabinets, and a sink.

The brothers explore the house a bit, taking out their flashlights as Sam explores the kitchen and Dean explores the rooms in the hallway. On his way to the fone at the end, he notices something up with the flooring. A piece of square carpet seemed to be cut around. He goes to pick it up when he notices that there’s a trapdoor under it. He signals over to Sam with the flashlight, who was looking at the different guns he found in the cabinets, and they both look at each other. This just got interesting Dean thought, before he started to climb down the ladder. Sam took a deep breath, immediately regretted when the smell of death filled his lungs, and followed Dean.

When they make it down the ladder, they find it to look just like a basement. Concrete walls and flooring. There's a table with a few tools on it and a stool under it, paired with cobwebs. There's a bookshelf with 2 cupboards at the bottom, with old dusted books on the shelves. There are some cardboard boxes in the corners, but nothing extraordinary. Except for the fact that Amy was nowhere to be seen. Crap. They started to look around to see if there was somewhere she probably could have gone. They were starting to give up when Sam felt something. The concrete wall was cold, but not in one place. Not as cold as the others. Then he heard voices coming from behind the wall, Amy's voice. He signaled over to Dean with his flashlight, and they both listened in. It seemed like she was..talking to someone?

“Hope you're hungry, I stole enough to last a week,” said the muffled voice of the girl, getting quieter and quieter, signaling that she was walking away from the door.

Her voice was a little slowed down as if she was talking to a young kid. Which is why the brothers were a bit shocked when they heard an older kid’s voice say, “Have you got caught yet?”

“You should learn to trust me more, of course not,” Amy half-lied. She indeed didn’t get caught per se, but she was confronted by hunters. “Now eat up, it won’t stay cold forever.”

There was a sound of a purse bag unzipping, followed by Sam suggesting they should just leave. “There’s nothing, just two kids trying to get by. We should leave,” he whispers, but Dean’s curiosity got the best of him. He was chipping away at a crack he saw in the wall, with the multitool he found on the table with tools until there was enough of a hole for him and Sam to look inside.

They saw a thin kid, who couldn’t be any older than 14. They had messy, medium-long length, brown hair, and forest-green eyes, but it was hard to see them when their bangs covered their eyes. They were wearing a baggy gray sweatshirt and long jeans, paired with black and gold boots. The two kids were sitting in a corner, the older one digging through the pink and gold bag that had been on Amy’s shoulder not too long ago.

What did they pull out? An O+ blood bag, the same type of blood that seems to keep on disappearing from the blood banks. The teen opens their mouth, and fangs start to come out from the roof of their mouth. They quickly put the bag opening in their mouth and start drinking from it. A vampire, no doubt. That’s what’s been killing the people. That’s Dean's immediate thought as he goes over to the tool table and grabs the ax. Before he’s able to open the door, Sam grabs his arm.

“Dean- Dean, they’re children, what are you doing?!” Sam whispers in a panic

“My job,” Dean states, pushing Sam off of him, sending him to fall back in shock before Dean kicks the door open.

The kids both look at the door in fear. Immediately after seeing Dean, the older one disappeared and reappeared in front of the younger one, arm out to protect her. Teleportation? Vampires don’t teleport. Then Amy stood up, hiding behind the teen, and grabbing onto their arm. The teen is short, no more than 5 foot 1, and the kid is shorter, probably 4 foot 8.

“Ok, what in the hell are you?!” Dean shouted, causing the teen to let out a “tch” sound

“None ya asshole , now leave us alone,” the vampire fumed, bearing their teeth while still protecting the young girl.

Dean, afraid of the vampire being hostile, lifts his ax while yelling, “ I’ll bet you’ll die once I cut- ” before being cut off by Sam, who ran in and grabbed Dean’s arm before he could strike.

“Dean stop, she's a kid!” Sam yells, looking Dean in the eyes and lowering his hand down. This comment made the vampire look uncomfortable, and the young girl defensive.

“It’s a freakin’ vamp Sam,” Dean grunted, snatching his arm away from Sam and backing up, “They’re both probably vamps!”

“I’m not a vampire,” Amy piped up, stepping in front of the vampire, though their hand was now gripping her shoulder, her fist clenched and a hint of frustration in her small voice, “I’m a..human.”

The hesitation in her voice made Dean skeptical. “Then why are you helping it?!” he demanded to know, turning his head around to stare at the child, which made the teen strengthen their grip around the girl's shoulder, determined to protect her.

“Dean, they are children,” Sam grunted between his teeth, not liking how high Dean is raising his voice in front of the kids.

“Is helping my brother out a crime now?” Amy asked sarcastically, being oddly calm for someone being confronted by such men. Him being her brother made sense, Sam thought, as it would be a reason for her to be so content protecting him as much as he is to protect her.

“It is when he’s a monster,” Dean stated as if he and his brother weren’t “monsters” about a dozen times now. As if he also wouldn’t do anything to protect and defend his brother, no matter what.

“Dean- '' was all Sam could get out before Amy snapped. The comment about her brother being a monster pushed her past her limit.

“He’s still my older brother !” she shouted, “And it’s not his fault he’s a vampire, he didn’t choose this!”

“He hurts people!” Dean protests.

“NO, HE-” Amy began before the brother interrupted. “Charlotte, bedroom.” He snapped his fingers, and the girl was gone. This left Sam and Dean shocked. Not a vampire. But then, what is he?

Before they could ask anything, the creature started. “It is me you want, not her. She is just a human, I’m the monster. Leave her be.” The teen’s voice was very monotone, yet calming for a monster. It seemed to be in a nice middle ground where you can’t tell if they’re meant to be a girl or a boy.

They raise their hands and say, “I will not fight, and I have not hurt anyone. I just want to be left alone and live with my sister. Please understand.”

Sam and Dean look at each other for a second. Do they want to risk it? Do they want to risk a vampire hybrid going out in the open and taking more victims? But wait, he said she hasn’t hurt anyone? So the vics weren’t from him? He seems to be handling it well, getting blood from blood banks, which is better than people.

They look back at the boy, and Dean points at him, “Don’t kill anyone, alright? Or you know I will have to kill you, got it?”

“Yes Mr. Winchester,” the teen agrees, bowing down a bit while confusing the boys.

“How do you..” Dean starts, but his voice starts to trail off. The boy answers anyway.

“Both of my fathers, my biological and my vampire one, have talked a lot about you and your family,” they smile as if they had just met their idol.

The brothers stand there for a while, before realizing they never got a name for the boy. “What’s your name kid?” Dean asked, changing the subject.

“P,” is all they say. No last name, no actual name, just “P”. Now the brothers are even more confused.

“Puh..P?” Sam repeated, wanting to make sure he heard him right, “Your name is just ‘P’?”

“Yes, that is what I think my name is,” P responded. After all, that is the name they have responded to for years. That is the only name they have gone by.

Dean points at them again, hesitating for a moment, before saying, “You’re..you’re..” he patted P on the shoulder, “You’re weird.” He turns back around, and P can’t help but feel hurt. Being weird was a bad thing, and their idol just called them weird.

He turned around and he and Sam began to walk out. “Stay out of trouble P, and stay weird,” Dean smirked, before leaving the basement with Sam. “Stay weird” P can do that. They’re good at that. They feel this might be the start of something. Or the end. Who knows? They met a hunter that they’d looked up to for as long as they can remember. And even if it was just for a quick minute, it was enough to make them smile.
