After leaving Kelly's Spencer did go pick up Ace, but he left Esme where she was. He was not in the mood to be bothered with her when he didn't have to be. Soon, he and Ace were in one of Port Charle's more scenic parks, sitting on a bench, watching people walk to and from their destination. Excited by all the new faces and the fresh air, Ace would clap and giggle as he sat on his brother's lap. Spencer in the meantime thought about what Joss had said before Kristina had rudely interrupted with her ill-conceived idea. He didn't know what that was about. He barely even knew Kristina and he was a bit taken aback that she would just throw her opinion out there about a situation she obviously knew nothing about.
"What do you think, Ace? What should I do about Trina? I want to spend time with her, but I want to respect her mother's wishes as well. Is Joss right? She hasn't been in a long time, but maybe she is on to something for once."
Ace looked up at his brother and made a sound that sounded like call, making Spencer laugh. “You’re right. What could it hurt?”
Spencer took out his cell phone and texted: Ace and I are at the park on this beautiful day. No one here, but us and the birds. Do you want to join us?
He waited for one minute before a reply was sent back.
T: I’ll be there in five.
Spencer smiled and hugged his brother a little closer. “You are a great wingman little guy. You give great advice. Better advice than that Kristina, obviously.”
Five minutes later, Trina showed up, looking even more beautiful than the last time he had seen her.
“There you are,” Spencer grinned as Trina sat next to him on the bench.
“I was surprised to hear from you after the conversation we had the other day,” Trina replied, her eyes telling him that she was happy that he had texted.
"It was kind of spur of the moment. I saw Joss earlier and we talked. I told her what was going on with us and she had a brilliant idea. Spend time with you where your mother was not present. So she's not here at the park. It was such a pretty day. I was thinking that there's no better way to spend it than with my two favorite people."
"Well, I'm glad. This low-key thing is harder than I thought it would be and with Curtis refusing to see me right now...things just seem harder and harder to deal with. I really need you right now...more than I thought I would. I don't think I can do the low-key thing, Spencer. Not with all that's going on. I know it'd be stressful on my mother but...not being with you is stressful on me and with Curtis not wanting to see me, things with my other dad changing...I need something constant I need...I need you."
Spencer felt his heart beat faster as he took her hand. “Hey, you have me. You always will. There’s never a question of that.”
“You must think me terribly selfish.”
“No. I’m the selfish one. Because I can’t stay away from you for sure. I mean, I am the one that called you here.”
“What are we going to do? I mean...we’re grown adults. We shouldn’t have to sneak around.”
"Let's not call it sneaking around. Let's call it...being private. You and me, spending time together in places where your mother is not. Whether it's the metro court, my place, Kelly's...anywhere you want."
“The hospital is definitely off limits,” Trina found herself liking the idea.
“Most definitely.”
“No Kellys and Metro court when my mother’s off, because she may show up there.”
“Alright. Joss may help too. I’m sure that she knows of some great spots to meet up.”
“I’m feeling better now,” Trina sighed, looking like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.
“Me too. And so does Ace. I think he’s been missing you.”
“Aww, I miss him too. Can I hold him?”
“Of course,” Spencer smiled, sliding the baby into Trina’s arms. “Remember Ace, that’s my girl. You got that? Mine.”
Trina laughed. “What the hell, Spencer? Are you jealous of a baby?”
“Maybe a little,” Spencer chuckled, giving Trina a little wink, happy to see her smile. If he could do that for her, give her something to laugh and smile about, his job was done.
“Thank you, Spencer. I really needed this time with you. More than you may ever know.”
Smiling, Spencer thought about Joss and smiled. Sometimes she did give good advice.
……
Planning Kristina’s downfall, Joss was wiping down the counter when her phone vibrated. Frowning, she took out her phone and rolled her eyes when she saw that it was a text from Spencer. She opened the text and smiled to see a picture of Spencer, Trina, and Ace at the park, all three looking extremely happy.
