Edward was in the room of the inn where they had been staying, he was taking some notes on a new book he had found in the library, Alphonse had stayed a little longer because they had already become friends with the librarian due to the frequency with which they went, then no one would say anything about seeing an armor in the middle of the room reading books, so he could stay a little calm about it.
Suddenly he heard a noise at the window, he got on his guard and approached slowly, because of the last encounters with homunculi, he couldn't just let his guard down even if it was just a bird. But what he saw made him surprised even though he kind of expected it already.
- What are you doing here, Envy? -He asked when he saw him sitting on the windowsill, the blond was a bit surprised since Envy seemed to have come alone.
-Hi, Chibi. I was just passing by and thought I'd say hello -Envy replied, entering the room without permission.
- Who are you calling Chibi?!!!!!
-Wow, what a bad mood, aren't you glad to see me? -Envy gave a slight smile and approached Edward with a fixed gaze on him.
-No, I'm not glad. What do you want from me? -Edward stepped back a little intimidated by the other's attitude, he didn't know if he came with intentions to fight or not.
-Nothing special. I just wanted to... You know, see how you were? - He said while waving his hand as if downplaying the importance of the matter, he stopped a few inches away from the blond without taking his eyes off him.
Edward, he felt a shiver, Envy was acting weird and he didn't know why, wanting to know about him? What was that all of a sudden?
-Ok, this is unnecessary, could you just get to the point? I'm not believing anything you're saying
-Agh! -Envy folded his hands in exasperation and turned away. -Well, lately things have been happening that I don't know how to explain and.... I wanted to check something," he said, lowering his voice.
- What things? And check what? -Edward was curious.
-It's none of your business.
Envy turned away to hide the slight blush that was appearing, but Edward managed to notice it, which made him feel excited, could homunculi feel embarrassment? Could they blush? And more importantly, what were those things Envy didn't want to say?
-Well, if it's none of my business, what are you doing here? ... Unless... Is that related to me?
The alchemist noticed how Envy's blush had increased, because even though his back was turned, his ears were now red too. Suddenly Edward found himself excited, he didn't know exactly why, but, seeing Envy blushing, and knowing that he had something to do with it, gave him some joy. However, he had to pretend he didn't care, he knew the homunculus, he knew he enjoyed making things difficult for the sake of annoying.
-Well if you refuse to talk.... I have some things to do, so....
Envy turned quickly, with a mixture of embarrassment and anger she quickly approached him.
-No, you don't tell me what to do! I couldn't care less about your insignificant life, I'm just here to check something out and I'm not leaving until I've done that
Edward was a little surprised, I mean, yes, Envy had always been like that, but that was an exaggerated disregard for the situation. Envy was definitely acting even weirder today.
-And when will that happen?
-It's not that simple shrimp
- Who are you calling a shrimp?!? You...!!!! -He tried to ignore the typical homunculus insults and preferred to continue -Whatever, why don't you just tell me? You alone are not accomplishing anything!
-How annoying you are!!! I don't understand why you had to be the one...!!!!!
- The one...what?
The homunculus sighed and massaged his brow in despair, this was really getting frustrating.
- Ok, lately, somehow I feel like annoying you a lot....
-Well that's normal for you
Envy ignored the blond and continued.
-... And that's getting in the way of accomplishing the other things I have to do.
-That means you hate me more than before?
-... Somehow you don't get out of my mind.... And lust... She said things, the thing is, I need to check it out.
-I still don't know what.
-I need to kiss you.
- What!!!
Edward was taken totally by surprise, his heart started beating in a hurry and a blush violently flooded his face, he expected everything, but definitely not that.
Envy was no better, she said about the kiss with a certain coldness, but her face was totally red as he did it.
-Whether you want it to or not it's going to happen, so it's up to you to make it happen by hook or by crook.
- Wait! Wait!!! Why...? Is this another one of your weird tortures? Why kiss me?
-You don't care.
-Do you like me or something?
-That's what I'm trying to find out!
Envy held the blond by the shoulders and pulled him closer to him.
-Noo!!! Wait!!! - Ed put his hands on Envy's chest to try to push him away, somehow, feeling each other's body right now made everything more embarrassing, so he took them off immediately.
- What?
-Y-you don't need to kiss me to know that.
-Lust said... Agh, I don't have to explain
- Ahhh wait!!!!
-What?!?
- Ok well hmm... - The curiosity and excitement he had felt about Envy's reactions had somehow now turned into curiosity and excitement towards that kiss, but, he definitely didn't want it to be like that, it was too soon, too rough. -Let me do it, if you do it wrong you won't be able to check anything.
Envy hadn't done that before, despite having lived so long, he hadn't really kissed someone before to check romantic feelings and stuff like that, he doubted he could even have that kind of thing, but Lust had said things, he needed to check it out and get those ideas out of his mind at once.
-Okay -He released the blond, but stayed in the same place.
-Okay -Edward was surprised at the other's sudden docility, but he was more surprised at his own initiative to propose something that even he didn't know how to do well, this was his first kiss! And he was also going to give it in a sort of experiment, with his enemy, definitely not what he expected for his first kiss. But, on the other hand, Envy.... Well... It made him nervous and happy that Envy was blushing for him, and being honest, Edward had noticed for a while now that Envy, with all her craziness, was somewhat attractive to him, so it didn't sound like a bad plan, he had to take advantage of it.
-You must... You must close your eyes.
-No
-I'm not going to attack you! You just need to do it
-... Ok, but, if you try anything, I'll notice....
-I won't do anything, just do it.
Envy finally obeyed and Edward walked over to him, grabbed the homunculus by the face and pulled it down towards him, yes, he hated himself horribly for that, and would deny it if asked, but it was a fact that he was shorter than the other one and he needed to do it that way. Envy noticed that and let out a small mocking laugh.
-Shut up
As they were already very close, the blond closed his eyes as well, their lips finally made contact, Edward felt a shiver run down his back, his face felt even hotter, he couldn't believe Envy's lips were so soft, he felt the smell of the other being so close, it was too pleasant, intoxicating.
Envy on his side was experiencing the same, but it was all too strange for him, he didn't even imagine he could experience pleasant sensations from someone else's touch, usually it was pain.
Edward broke away from the lack of air, he could have breathed normally, but the kiss made his breathing heavier and he didn't want the other to notice.
-So...
-Well, I can't have an answer without having something to compare it to, so, I'll go look for someone on the street....
-No! -Edward surprised himself with his reaction, but, he definitely didn't want Envy to kiss someone else, even if that kiss was like an experiment, there was a chance that Envy really liked him wasn't there? - No need, you can find out without that, mnn.... Oh! Kiss the back of your hand!
-No, that's silly
-Just do it!
-Agh -Envy did as the blond asked without understanding the purpose.
-Did you feel something? Was it the same as kissing me?
-Well, no, it's a different body part and it's my own hand.
-Well, well, even so -Edward started to feel silly, he didn't really have a point to prove, it was just desperate attempts to stop Envy -Kissing someone you don't like feels like that, after all it's just contact isn't it? Even if it's another part of the body, if you feel anything more than contact, it must be because you like the person.
Envy stared at Edward, thoughtfully, Edward just acted like he wasn't dying inside.
-Mmm... I understand
Well, but Edward couldn't understand how their improvisation had made sense to the other, but he was very grateful that it had.
-Did you feel something when you kissed me?
Envy blushed again at the alchemist's question, making Ed's heart start to flutter again.
-Mmm... yes
-So... Do you like me?
- Well... I seem to.
- Oh...
Edward tried to hide his excitement, but he couldn't help but blush and let out a small smile at such a statement, a smile that Envy noticed and felt her heart racing at the other's reaction, somehow, he started to think that he looked too cute like that and that he wanted to see him like that more times. But...
-Well, that doesn't change anything- He said while recovering his characteristic smile, -You won't have an advantage on me just because of that, I needed to know so I could get rid of it, I don't plan to be like you humans, so weak.
-I don't...
Without letting the blond say anything else, Envy changed to the form of a cat and jumped out of the window he had entered, Ed tried to stop him, but it was too late, as he leaned out of the window he had already lost sight of him.
He sighed heavily, the homunculus was very stubborn, but he understood him this time, there was too much information to process, even for him.
