Work Text:
Ver was starting to panic.
He was rushing around his apartment, sweeping up everything he could, picking things up off of the floor, scrubbing his counters with a wet towel, and making sure all of the dishes were done and his sink was spotless (the most important thing by far considering the company coming over). This had all started when he received a message on discord from Uki, who he knew had been busy moving recently and hadn’t been online as much.
‘Hey VV, are you doing anything later?’
‘No, I was just thinking about what to make for dinner. Why do you ask?’
‘Oh, I was just wondering if I could come over.’
Ver had nearly dropped his phone.
‘Come over? Don’t you live too far away?’
‘Not anymore I don’t, silly.’
It hadn’t taken long for Ver to make a decision and respond back.
‘Of course you can come over, UV. Do you want me to make you anything in particular for dinner, then?’
‘We can cook together once I’m there, VV. <3’
He let out a very undignified squeal before sending back a simple ‘okay’ that was far too calm of a response for how nervous he felt, and immediately started tidying up for Uki’s arrival. He wanted to make a good impression for their first time meeting in person. Ver had heard stories from other people who had met up with Uki, about how pretty he was (somehow even prettier than in pictures or on stream which Ver couldn’t believe because how could they possibly get prettier-), how clean he was, and how intimidating his presence could get.
He’d also heard certain stories about how they could get touchy, and he wasn’t sure if he felt excited or terrified about the idea of that.
It’s been no secret from the first time they spoke to each other on stream that Ver thought Uki was attractive, because he started panicking upon hearing his voice and was a mess throughout their entire collab. He genuinely thought he’d messed up royally and made Uki uncomfortable, but he kept talking to him and giggling at his antics, apparently finding Ver’s nervousness at least amusing, if not cute.
They’d continued talking a lot after that, flirting on twitter or in their discord messages, but nothing had really come of that apart from fans enjoying little shipping crumbs here and there. Ver’s initial attraction to Uki had admittedly turned into a bit of a crush over the next few months, feeling thrilled whenever he received attention, no matter how small it was.
And now he was going to have Uki’s attention on him in the flesh.
As if that realisation summoned it, a knock came from Ver’s apartment door.
He dropped the broom he was holding, and it made a loud noise when it hit the floor. He quickly picked it back up and set it against the wall before running to the door.
He opened it, and felt his lungs struggle to take in air.
There stood Uki Violeta, who somehow actually was prettier in person. His skin was smooth and almost seemed to glow in the soft light of the evening, his hair tied back with a ribbon into a ponytail and lying over one of his slender shoulders. He was wearing a simple black sweater that fit his form loosely, and black leggings to match. It was a comfy, casual outfit, but Ver thought it still looked nicer on Uki than any expensive suit would look on himself.
Ver’s eyes wandered back up to meet Uki’s, creased slightly to match the coy smile they had.
“Are you enjoying the view, VV?”
His cheeks flooded red to match his hair, eyes darting off to the side in embarrassment.
“I- yeah, you look- yeah.”
Uki let out a soft laugh. “Can I come in?”
Ver just nodded, afraid to open his mouth and start stuttering again, and moved out of the doorway to let them pass.

After searching through Ver’s fridge and pantry, Uki realised that they had the ingredients to make bolognese. Ver had no complaints, but had never made it before, so he was content to let Uki lead him through it.
“VV, can you cut the steak for me while I make the sauce?”
“Mhm!”
He cut the steak very slowly, trying to make sure each piece was an even and acceptable size. He wanted this meal to turn out perfect, and make Uki proud of him, even if he would never admit to that.
Ver heard the stove burner turn on, and a pot full of water set to boil, before he felt arms snake around him from behind, and a chin on his shoulder.
He froze for a moment to gather his composure before resuming cutting the steak.
He stopped again when he heard a voice very close to his ear.
“Sorry, am I distracting you?”
Uki’s voice was light and teasing, and Ver had to swallow before answering back.
“N-no, not at all.”
Uki hummed and put his hand over one of Ver’s that was holding the steak knife.
“Really? You don’t seem to be doing a lot of cutting right now.”
Ver let out a shaky breath. “That’s-”
“Do you want me to help you, VV?”
He just nodded, and felt the tickle of Uki’s hair against his neck with the movement. They get about three quarters of the way through cutting before Uki speaks again.
“You know, your hands are very soft. You have nice cuticles, too.”
“You’re a cutie-cle.”
Ver shoots back his response without really thinking about it, and for a second is nervous that what he said didn’t fit the mood, before Uki laughs and takes his hands back, turning his attention back to the water now at a steady boil.
He catches himself miss the warmth for a second before realizing that he still needs to cut the rest of the steak.
—————
The bolognese turns out wonderfully, under Uki’s careful watch and culinary skill, and dinner between them passes without much fanfare. They discuss all sorts of different topics, conversation flowing easily despite Ver’s earlier embarrassment and nervousness, and he begins to think that he might have been overreacting a bit with all of his cleaning beforehand. Uki is great company, and a great friend, and probably wouldn’t have minded much if his house was a bit messier-
“Where the hell do you think you’re going?”
Ver stops, having set his dish in the sink and started walking away, and quickly understands his mistake.
“I-I was going to do it later! After you left! I didn’t want to make you sit there while I washed-”
Uki stomps up to the sink with their own recently emptied plate and turns the faucet on without a word. Somehow saying nothing more makes his outburst seem scarier.
“I-um…”
Uki turns their head slightly to indicate that they were listening.
“I’ll rinse, if you want to wash..?”
“…Yes, do that.”
—————
The time eventually comes when Uki needs to leave; his stuff is still going to need a bit of moving and his wifi troubles are still happening, and they need to get everything sorted out quickly to return to streaming. Ver offers to drive them home, but Uki refuses to put him through the trouble. The two come to a compromise of Ver walking Uki out the door and keeping him company while they wait for their cab to arrive.
When it does, Ver turns towards him, opening his mouth slightly with the intent to say his farewell (and hopefully not mess another thing up today, dammit, he feels like he’s made enough of a fool of himself already-) when Uki softly presses their lips together in a simple kiss.
It’s chaste and quick and oh-so light, but the effect it has is extraordinary. It’s over before Ver can fully process it- what it means, how it felt, how he wants to do it again- and Uki has the same teasing, affectionate smile he had when he first showed up at Ver’s doorstep.
“I had fun today, VV. See you again next week?”
Without waiting for a response, they open the cab door and hop in.
