It's Called Kissing

Summary:

Pre-Fall Crowley's invented something new, and Not-Yet Furfur doesn't understand it.

This is a crack ship that has gotten out of hand.

Notes:

I'm so sorry. This all started out as a joke, but I've started to see it. Furfur/Crowley exes canon? More likely than you'd think. At least in Furfur's eyes.

Shax saying "poor old Furfur" after saying that she'd heard Aziraphale and Crowley were 'an item' in that car is NOT a coincidence, and what does "jumping on his back like a little monkey in a waistcoat" even MEAN, anyway? They did loads together, he says. That can include kissing.

I'm not even sure if I'm joking anymore.

Work Text:

It was no secret, to those that knew the angel that would become the demon Furfur, at least, that he had somewhat of a "thing" for the angel that would become the demon Crowley - not that they had a word for what this "thing" was, of course.

All the angels knew that he admired them an… abnormal amount. He hardly left them alone, following them around, asking about their current and past work- whether it be a new nebula, or dropping in to help the team working on the prototype for the new humans. It was kind of sweet, really, if not a little pathetic. The angel that would become the demon Crowley didn't seem to mind, though, instead actually appearing to be friendly with him, never reluctant to share their new ideas or projects. Perhaps they were oblivious to what was obvious to everyone else, or maybe they just didn't care. They did loads together, and that's just how things were for a while, whether the higher-ranked angel was just putting up with him or genuinely thought of him as a friend.

At one point, they actually went to him first, excited to share their new development for the humans.

"You see," they said after finding him in his office, where he was sorting through files, "It's a sort of… ritual. Related to the mating."

The angel that would become Furfur looked up from his task, stared blankly at them, and scratched the back of his head.

"Mating?"

"Yeah, the thing where they multiply. So that there's more of them."

"Oh right, yeah, I remember. Well weird, that."

"Well anyway, it's a sort of precursor to that. To show affection. They smash their faces together. Their lips touch and everything." they half said, half squealed, unable to contain their excitement, rolling onto the balls of their feet and grinning, waiting apprehensively for their little friend's response.

"...I don't get it."

"No, well, the others didn't either, so I went behind their backs and added it anyway."

A little laugh escaped from the smaller angel, who clapped his hands together, causing an echo to ripple across the usually silent office. After a moment, his face returned to its previous, and suddenly serious, bemused expression.

"You weren't joking."

"No."

"You can do that?"

"Sure, it's not like they ever check, anyway. They never do. I don't think they'd know how, even if they thought to." they shrugged nonchalantly, stating what they thought to be just how things were, and not an indication of what was to come. Their friend didn't seem to think much of it either, accepting what he was being told with a tiny nod.

"Anyway, back to the uh…"

"It's called kissing."

"Yeah, that."

"There's not much to get. The plan is that they do it to show that they like each other. It's a way of being close, like an embrace. Just with more… mouth."

"Mouth?"

"Yeah, as I said, their lips touch."

There was a moment where the two just looked at each other, the smaller angel as confused as ever.

"How does that even work?" he said, somewhat disapprovingly.

"I haven't worked that bit out properly, yet. I figured they'd do that on their own. I think a bit like…" they held their hands hesitantly around the tops of the other angel's arms, "Do you mind?"

"Oh, no. Go ahead."

With the confirmation they needed, they placed their hands down firmly on his shoulders, and reached down, touching their chastly lips to his- no other way had been invented yet, after all - and to their surprise, he melted almost instantly in their arms. There were some other unexpected side effects, too- he closed his eyes, which was not in their plan at all, and parts of his face had turned an unusual shade of pink they'd usually only ever see when one of the cherubs had made a mistake in front of one of the higher-ups. Eventually, they pulled back, with a little resistance from the other angel, who looked up at them, puzzled, and blinked softly, then glanced away and cleared his throat, but didn't say anything.

"That's the… general idea."

"Well, it's uh… very good." he replied, his gaze fixed determinedly on a very interesting spot of bright white floor for a while before he built up the courage to look the taller angel in the eye to ask a question. "What made you think of it?"

"I don't know, it just kind of… came to me. Thought it might work." they said, and having thought of many new adjustments to the invention - aided by the other angel's reaction - excused themselves.

The angel that would soon become the demon Furfur looked around the open space of his office, which now felt even emptier than it had done previously, and continued with his work as before, only now with the addition of being pretty sure he was in love.
