Flowers for the Agent

Summary:

Having been on many dates in the past James was used to getting gifts and giving them, he was never nervous about a date before. It was odd to be showing up on a date as a man and being the one receiving the gift, but he wasn't gonna complain when the one giving him the gift was a beautiful woman like Moneypenny.

Notes:

Using Eve as Moneypenny's first name in this fic .

Work Text:

James hummed to himself as he looked in the mirror, checking his tie and hair. He wore a black suit, with a dark blue tie and a white undershirt. One of his favorite outfits, but he didn’t wear it often. Only for special occasions, such as tonight.

“You’re in a good mood.” Moran walked over, running his fingers trough James’s hair, laughing when the fellow operative swatted at him.

“I’m going out tonight, so I would appreciate you not undoing my hard work.”

Moran blinked, “Where you going? New mission?”

“Nosy aren’t you?” James smirked at Moran, enjoying the blush that spread across the man’s cheek. For all Moran’s big talk, he was easy to fluster.

James walked over to the door. Pausing to turn to Moran he boasted, “If you must know, I have a date with a lovely lady.”

Moran was silent for a moment before laughing loudly. Moran was a ladies man himself and even he couldn’t deny James’s effect on any woman. He had seen them swooning over the blonde over and over, “Poor lady.”

“Jealous.” James shook his head in jest. He smiled at his friend one more time before walking out.

Little did his friend know this wasn’t just any lady, this was their trusted teammate, Eve Moneypenny who James had been trying to ask out for months. It was so easy with everyone else yet this, the one he truly wanted, gave him trouble. Not in the sense that she was playing hard to get, not at all.

She was very responsive to his advances, meeting them head on once she realized he was being serious.

Tonight they were to meet at a restaurant and of course James offered to drive her there. It wasn’t that Moneypenny didn’t trust his driving skills, it was that she didn’t trust Herder’s inventions. So they agreed to meet there.

James still got the occasional odd look when he rolled up in his car but for the most part people in London were used to seeing him in it. The restaurant itself was a fancy one, frequented by much of London’s elite. Upon entering James have a polite nod to the host, “James Bonde, here to meet with Miss Moneypenny.”

“Ah, yes. The lady with the flowers. Right this way sir.” The man started walking, giving James no time to process his words.

“Flowers?” What was she doing with flowers? Had someone given them to her already? The truth was James planned to buy her some but he didn’t want to seem pushy. This was their first date after all. So why would she have flowers?

As he approached the table he saw her, in a tight red dress, wearing those cute glasses that sat on top of her cute nose. With flowers in front of her. “Your date has arrived.”

“Thank you very much.” Moneypenny nodded at the man who then left the two alone. James was about to take a seat when Moneypenny stood up and offered him the flowers, “For you.”

“Me? These are... for me?” James was baffled. Usually it was him who brought flowers to dates. No one’s given him flower since... well since he became James Bonde.

Moneypenny blushed as she held the flowers in front of her, “You mentioned you liked flowers but weren’t very specific so I got a mix. I hope they’re to your liking, mister Bonde.”

She did this for him, she bought him flowers because she remembered he liked them, “Thank you Eve. And please, call me James. I would say mister Bonde was my father, but we both know that’s not true.” They both had a laugh as they sat down, and James accepted the flowers, “These are a lovely gift. Much lovelier then any gift I’ve received before.”

“How so? They’re just flowers. I’m sure you’ve received much better gifts.” The flowers were from a local shop that James himself frequented quite a bit. The old lady said that her business had been booming since people saw him there so he was happy he could help out. It seems Moneypenny heard about it too.

“Correction. I’ve received more expensive gifts. Never one from a lovely lady, not of this variety.” James took a flower out of the bouquet, brought it to his lips and offered it to Moneypenny, “As a gentleman, I wouldn’t sit right with me if I had all these flowers yet my date had none.”

Moneypenny brought him a gift and he wanted to share it, better yet he found a way to reverse the situation and made her flustered. “Why thank you James, you truly are every bit the gentleman I took you for.”

The thoughts going through James’s mind were anything but gentlemanly, also those were not the things one would do on a first date. Hopefully this would be just one date of many.

“Shall we order?” James smiled, scanning the room for their host.

Moneypenny returned his smile, happy he accepted her gift, a good sign of things to come because hoped to bring him many more. “We shall.”
