   "I'll be back before you can miss me," Leon had said before he left. He didn't come back.

   The call hadn’t been the worst part. The worst part came later: the realisation, laying in bed alone, that this could be forever. Cloud had lost too many people in his life he already: he wasn't prepared to lose anyone again.

   He wouldn't let himself lose anyone again.

   But a world away, there were still the dead sorceresses that had pulled Leon away to begin with: the precursor to a brewing sorceress war intent on forcing him to reckon with everything he'd been hiding - including from himself.
