“C’mon Ver! Hurry up.” Doppio said ecstatically. He had a very special surprise for Ver but the other was taking so long to get ready.
“Relax, I don’t even know where we’re going so I want to look my best.”
“You always look your best, Kaichou!”
“Even when I've just woken up with a messy bed head?” Ver joked.
“Of course!” Doppio was always one to admire Ver no matter what state he was in or the time of day. To Doppio, Ver was always perfect. And he wanted to cherish every second he had with him.
Once Ver deemed himself ready to go, dressed all comfortably for the spring weather, Doppio led him into the car, holding the door open for him like the gentleman he was, and drove him to Ver’s favorite spot in town. The dessert store.
He could see the joy radiating off of Ver as he looked at the menu of different ice creams and pastries he could choose from. Once Ver ordered and received his treats Doppio led him out of the store and began walking in the pavement.
“Where are we going now?” Ver said while enjoying his ice cream.
“You’ll see, I wouldn’t wanna spoil anything for you just yet.”
After a brief walk, Doppio and Ver finished their treats and were walking hand in hand to a local couple spot. Gorgeous and lush trees and flowers following the path with speakers on the light poles playing soft music, creating a special ambience for the couples there.
“I’ve never been here during spring before.” Ver stated, latching into Doppio’s arm as he walked and leaving into him.
“I haven’t either, which is why I wanted to come here with you today.” Doppio leaned down and placed a small kiss onto Ver’s forehead, smirking to himself when an evident blush appeared on Ver’s face.
“You know, the cities holding a little event here. Just a bit further into the park.” Doppio squeezed Ver’s hand.
“Really?”
“Yep, wanna go check it out?” Doppio chuckled.
“I’m pretty sure that’s where you’re taking me regardless if you told me or not.”
“Correct.”
The couple continued their walk, the cold night air tickling Ver’s nose a little bit. Ver noticed the little string lights from light pole to lights pole the closer they got to the center of the park, with music and laughter heard in the distance.
“This all looks so pretty,” Ver mumbled, “How come we don’t come here often?”
“Great question. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking more night walks like this with you here.”
Once they finally reached the center of the park they were met with other couples dancing in the square, some taking photos by the pretty trees, some playing games with others, all just having a great time with their partners and friends. “Wow, this seems like so much fun!”
Ver’s eyes sparkled as he looked around the park square, when suddenly the music changed to a soft slow song. He watched the other couples join in on those slow dancing in the center, blushing at the thought of him and Doppio doing that when he felt a few squeezes on his hand and looked up at Doppio.
“Wanna join in?”
“I don’t see why not.”
Doppio led Ver to the dance floor and placed his hands on Ver’s waist, Ver placing his in Doppio’s shoulders and following the motion Doppio had set for the two.
It was a peaceful moment between the two. Both of them wouldn’t trade this for the world.
“You know, maybe one day we’ll be doing exactly this, but in suits with rings on our fingers.” Doppio teased, Ver smiled and felt the need to tease back.
“Will there be cake?”
“Of course, any dessert you could ever want.”
“That sounds like a dream come true for me,” Ver chuckled, “Getting to dance with you then go straight to a table filled with desserts.”
“And then we get to go to our house and cuddle on the couch with the villions and scythekicks.” Ver continued.
“Oh! We could build a fort in the living room!” If Doppio had a tail, it would 100% be wagging from side to side. The two bantered back and forth, discussing their dreams for their future together while dancing to the music in the background.
By the end of the night Ver had a second helping of ice cream and as he and Doppio drove back to their home, replaying the night events in their head.
It was late when they were ready for bed, Doppio was already under the covers looking at his phone when Ver exited the bathroom in his pajamas. Lifting the covers up he crawled his way into Doppio’s arms to be held while he slept, Doppio put his phone down so he could use both of his arms to hold his beloved.
“This was a great afternoon.” Ver said without thinking, but Doppio wasn’t going to complain because he could agree completely.
“It was, but for now let’s sleep and let everything we talked about play out in our heads.”
Ver smiled softly at Doppio’s words and lifted his head. Their lips connected in a slow kiss, one neither of them wanted to break yet unfortunately the need for air won.
“I love you.” Doppio said.
“I love you more.” Ver replied.
They laughed for a bit until they decided to finally turn in, sharing another soft kiss before closing their eyes and letting sleep take over, letting themselves dream of the perfect future they both wanted and let themselves thrive in the love they felt for the other.
Ver dreaming of desserts and sweets. And Doppio dreaming about finally surprising the other with the ring he had stored away in his night stand. Today wasn’t the day, but there was an endless amount of days where the love he felt for Ver would lead him to one knee. But for now, he was happy to hold Ver knowing everything was perfect the way they were.
