One simple joke.
It was one simple joke that started it all. One joke that wasn’t even one of his best. But it didn’t matter. That joke made her laugh; that was all that mattered to him.
Truly.
To hear her laugh like that again had been a mission for him. Even now, on the surface, with millions of things that could make her happy and laugh. It is his simple jokes that get the best laughs from her every time. He didn’t know why, but he loved it.
He loved her.
Love at first laugh.
Ha! That had to be the best joke of all. Him and his odd standards. Who else would have such an idea of finding true love than him? Sans the Skeleton, or well... Dishes, the Very Bad Joke. Dishes would be the sort of guy to find love based on a laugh.
Of course, she always told the best jokes herself. No one made him laugh like her. But it was that first simple joke she told him that cemented the love he had started to feel for her. Not only did she laugh at his joke and following jokes, but she had her own to share. Ones that made him laugh heartily and, for a moment, forget the hardships of life.
Yes…

It might not seem like much…
But it was everything to him…
To her…
To them.
Because of two simple jokes: Dishes and Old Lady were in love long before they knew each other as Sans and Toriel.
