Chapter 1: The talking hat
Harry Potter was not a normal 11 year old, he is a wizard but up until his 11th birthday he didn’t know he was. You see Harry was raised by his Aunt and Uncle who hate him and didn’t tell him who he was, Harry was not a normal wizard. When he was 15 months old an evil wizard Voldemort came and killed his parents when he tried to kill him with the killing curse which cannot be blocked so when Harry survived that night he became famous known as the Boy Who Lived.
Now growing up he didn’t know any of this, He was told that his parents died in a car crash and that his Aunt and Uncle got stuck with him. He was told that he was a freak, that he was abnormal and a burden to his family. So he was beaten by his Vernon Dursley (Uncle), used as a slave by Petunia Dursley (Aunt) and bullied by his cousin Dudley Dursley at school, so he had no friends because they where scared that they where going to get beat up by Dudley .
His bedroom was the cupboard under the stairs, He had to get up every morning to make breakfast and if he burned any thing he would get beaten, if he ate anything before they did he would get beaten. But if did everything perfect he would get beaten anyway just for existing, but that didn’t stop Harry from trying to bee perfect, trying until he was 9 and he relised that after a really bad beating that he was never going to be good enough for them. So he stoped trying and just accepted that he was going to get beaten anyway so he might as well earn them, he started eating some of the food he made when no one was looking, he stoped doing the chores and he started doing good really good which made Dudley look bad and Petunia and Vernon angry. So Harry got beaten more, not that he cared at this point he was use to being in pain so it didn’t really effect him that much.
But on his 11th birthday every changed, you see Harry was getting letters from owl’s that his relatives wouldn’t let him read and they just kept coming no matter what they did. So they ran away to a cliff inn the middle of the ocean hoping to escape them. But on the night of Harry’s Birthday a loud boom noise came from the door. Which turned out to be Hagrid the keeper of key’s and ground of Hogwarts. Know Hogwarts was a school for witches and wizards to go and learn magic it’s the School Harry’s parents went to. So Hagrid told Harry every thing about the school, about his parent and about himself.
So Harry left with Hagrid and they went shopping in Diagon ally to get his school supplies, he got money from the goblin bank, got robes, books, potions ingredients, wand and Hagrid got him his first birthday present a snowy owl that he named Hedwig. After the shopping Hagrid gave him his ticket to Platform 9 3/4 witch right before he left Harry asked how to get on the platform, just go though the barrier in-between platforms 9 and 10. Harry then said goodbye and got a room at the Leaky Cauldron (magical hotel) until the end of summer.
During the month Harry got to read all of his books, he wanted to make sure that he was going to be ready for September. He wanted to be a great wizard, he wanted to prove his parents proud and prove that he can do this for himself. So on September 1st he got up, had a shower, got dressed went down stairs got breakfast, paid Tom for his stay there and left. He singled the knight bus paid 11 sickles and was off to the train station.
Once he got there he went over to platforms 9&10 and in-between he ran right though the barrier and found a train that said Hogwarts express on it, there was not a lot of people there seeing that it was only 9 O’clock the train didn’t leave until 11 so Harry got to pick out his own compartment at the back of the train so no one would bother him while he got to read without anyone bothering him .So after the train left at 11 and no had asked if they can join him he was happy but about 3/4 though the train ride a girl with bushy brown hair came into his compartment and asked if he as seen a toad saying that a boy named Neville has lost his, he said no the girl then left and he got changed into his school robes seeing as how they where going to be there soon.
Five minutes before the train ride was finished a voice said to leave there turks on the train. When the train stoped Harry got off along with the rest of the passengers and heard Hagrid yell “Firs’-years! Firs’-years over here! All right there, Harry?’” Harry then nodded yes, he then got into a boat with three other people that he didn’t talk to on the boat ride. When they finished Hagrid led them up to the castle where they meet a woman in green robes and Hagrid introduced as Professor McGonagall, Hagrid then left and Professor McGonagall lead then into a chamber to wait until they where called. No body talked much after she left but Harry did hear from one of the kids that they had to fight a troll, know Harry did think this was true but it didn’t help the fact that he was nervous. Harry thought that he would be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin not that there was anything wrong with Gryffindor or Hufflepuff he just didn’t think that is where he belonged.
McGonagall came back after five minutes and they followed her into the great hall filled with other students and went right up to the front of the room where a stool and a hat where and the hat started singing. After it was finished McGonagall started calling names and each one had to put the hat on to get sorted, finally it was Harry’s turn and got up and put the hat on and the hat said “Hmm difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage I see. Not a bad mind either. There’s talent, oh my goodness yes- and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that’s interesting … So where shall I put you?” Harry thought that was his job, “it is but in you case I’m willing to give you a preference?” Harry herd in his head, ‘and thought the hat can read my mind’, ‘ yes I can read your mind’ the hat said. “ But I can’t tell others what I see or hear, so there is no danger to you. Harry wasn’t comfortable with this but he guessed it was good enough, so he thought about where he wanted to go, “ I just want to go somewhere I belong” he said to the shorting hat.
“Very well then” the hat said. “Better be SLYTHERIN”
