In fact, after the debacle that was the purple space titan, Thor is adjusting to life on Midgard very well. He's starting to understand their food, and their culture, and their lack of appreciation for smashing ceramics. As long as he keeps not thinking about his father, and his sister, and the wreckage of his home world, and the Statesman, and the death of his brother, he's quite fine actually!
So when the Grandmaster makes a rather sudden appearance, asking after Loki, the equilibrium Thor has painstakingly cultivated is thrown dangerously off kilter. It's only when the Grandmaster returns with Loki's body that the careful balance is shattered, torn to pieces, and flushed down one of Tony's very expensive toilets.
