Work Text:
There was a time that I could trust in God.
His grace was clear to me in every day.
At every dawn, for waking I'd applaud.
At every dusk, a prayer before I lay.
My faith made pain and loss I bared alright.
My confidence was I was one He loves.
For those judged evil He will one day smite,
and righteous chosen fly to Him like doves.
The will of God does not entice each man.
His cannon filled with inconsistent views.
I watched my peers abandon God's great plan.
The congregation could not fill the pews.
I found I had a greater love for life
than justifying God's own words in strife.
