The city was peaceful, like it usually was aside from the monster of the week adventurers the Monkie Kid would have(which normally included the demon twins and normally concluded in them losing terribly). However, today was different. Every year, the city holds a race. It is not only a race of speed, but ever since the holders of the race mysteriously changed it has been a race of wit.
Only two remain on the track now: a white motorcycle and a red race car. They were quick to leave everyone in the dust, making them unable to catch up. Everyone cheered for them, some people in the crowd even choosing sides for which racer they were rooting for. Somehow, and comedically, merchandise was already being made and handed out to people.
A red and green strike zoomed through the streets, the girl on the motorcycle being temporarily in the lead. She was the winner of last year’s race, but the boy in the race car was dead set on obtaining the prize this time.
“You’re not going to win that easily, Dragon Girl!” He exclaimed from behind. The girl looks behind her to laugh at him before joyfully dashing off. He growls and shifts gears and presses buttons, fire blasting from thrusters on the back of his large vehicle and boosting him closer to the small motorbike now.
As the finish line appears on the horizon, they make eye contact. They can hear the crowd cheering for them, one boy in particular jumping up and down and shaking a random person. “Whoo! Those are my friends!”
The racers are neck to neck now, both determined to make it to the finish line first. Their hearts are racing as quickly as their vehicles. Closer, and closer, and closer, and finally . . .
"And the winner is Mei the Dragon Girl!!" Two British commentators exclaim over the speakers
Mei gets off her bike and fist pumps in the air, taking off her helmet and basking in the cheers of the crowd. She turns to Red Son, who is stepping out of his car.
"Awh, don't be sad, Red Boy! We both knew I was gonna win anyways.”
But he wasn’t sad, or angry at the fact either. Instead, he gave her a smile and crossed his arms. The way he looked at her made her heart flutter. It was the same look he’s given her several times before, ever since he helped her with the Samadhi Fire. "It was a good race. Congratulations, Mei."
