Aziraphales face turned, unable to look him in the eye without feeling pain. Crowley couldn’t stand the distance any longer. He rushed forward and grabbed Aziraphale by the collar, kissing him with every part of his soul. For Crowley's soul had been Aziraphale for centuries. He felt at ease with his Angle, since their first encounter during the creation of the cosmos.
Aziraphale was shocked, his whole being vibrating. His first kiss with his foul fiend. His snake that always had a plan, his demon that had been protecting him for centuries. His demon that he felt he belonged to. He began to melt into the kiss. His hands slowly found their way around Crowley back, to rest upon his waist. Aziraphale's soul touched Crowley's presented one. Aziraphale found his prickly demon, with the gentlest soul. The love Aziraphale had been running from, now being fully realized.
Their corporeal forms melded into each other. Bodies touching, held breath, eyes closed, with just the feeling of one another passing between. Crowley wanted to exist with his Angle on their side forever. He had to know if Aziraphale felt the same. Crowley lips left Aziraphale, a shaken breath taken by both. Tears he had never dared to let fall before ran lines down Crowley's face. Overwhelmed with joy, love and fear of losing him. Aziraphale smiled softly seeing the tears, he reached up and removed Crowley glasses to see water struck snake eyes. Those golden eyes, Aziraphale had always admired and felt like he could live through.
Aziraphale whispered for these were only words for Crowley to hear. “ I want to be our side.”
“Then let's go my Angle! Leave them all to squabble amongst themselves. Let us live as us!” Crowley stated joyously.
“ Crowley we could fix this, we could thwart the end from the inside.” Aziraphale started trying to make an argument. He wanted Crowley to lead with him, making him an angel again. Wanted to save humanity again with his demon. Though the flaw in that plan would be he is not a demon anymore.
“We’ve given enough of our lives to all this! It’s time for us. Time we live how we choose with no one else's interference. No one else's rules, no one else's planes. Come on Angle live freely for once with me!” Crowly pleaded, practically begging. Their hands now intertwined.
Aziraphale considers this, could he just leave. Let this planet and people go. Let the humans like Nina , Maggie, and Jobb defend themselves. His base instinct to protect everything he holds dear, these beautiful humans. His face crinkled and he huffed.
Crowley knows what that meant. He let go of Aziraphale's hands a little forcefully. His Angle wanted to sacrifice his happiness for the humanity he loved. For the life he’d come to cherish. This little bookshop, filled with words of passion, pain, horrors, histories and fantasies.
“You can’t let this go can you?” He asked his heart break leaking into the words.
“ Crowley, I want us together like always. I want you with me on this. You’ll be an angel again. Isn't that better? We will still be our own side.” Aziraphale argued.
“You want to change me Angle? You want me to be something I no longer am. I'm a demon. I didn’t mean to fall, but I did! And I don’t regret it!” Aziraphale said hurt.
“No! No….I….Crowley I” his chest tightening “ Crowley I just thought this was a way for us to both get what we want. We can be together, we can protect the humans like we always have.” He hoped those were the right words.
“Is there a way for me to stay as I am and still help you do this? Crowley said angrily.
“A demon running heaven. I… I don’t think they’d allow it.” He started sheepishly. Feeling Crowley pulling further away from him with each word. Aziraphale could feel himself being ripped apart, as Crowley turned toward the door.
“ Well then we are done then. Good luck Angle.” Crowley chest ache just as it had when he’d rejected running away to Aziraphale.
“Crowley..,” He grabbed his wrist pulling him back. “I can’t do this without you! I haven’t done anything without you in Centuries.” Aziraphale eyes tearing up. ‘He’s breaking, I'm breaking him!’ Aziraphale can’t bear to think. Crowley reached up cupping Aziraphale cheek brushing it lightly.
“Goodbye my Angel” He turned to leave once more hoping to all that existed this was not the end. But rather an interlude. And their love… “ Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled program God here. So I agree this is crap. I mean I’ve been watching these two falling in love for centuries. But every grand love story needs some conflict, some obstacles the lovers have to fight for each other to triamohe. Yes, I did offer Aziraphale the Archangel job, knowing how he’d choose, and knowing who Crowley is. I also see arguments that the thirsting of Armageddon was a good conflict but hear me out. They are being that are impartial, alive forever . They have plenty of time for a heart reaching slow burn. I believe they will fight for each other so don't worry. After all, Love is more powerful than even I. Existed before me even with Death. Any way sorry for my meddling. But it’ll be good I just know it! They’ll get their own side.”
…. Would bring them back together one day. Crowley looked at the street feeling defeated. He watched Aziraphale get into that elevator, he felt broken numb, left wanting. Aziraphale steps echoed on the pristine floor, he shakily took a breath as the doors closed. He longed for Crowly with every part of his being. He couldn’t remember why he was doing this. Asmodeus came into view and he remembered ‘the second coming’. Aziraphale had a battle ahead of him, one he was broken heartedly facing alone. Crowly turned the corner of the bookshop, and kept driving. He did not know where to put it but it was all he had left.
