Lestat stared at the mahogany lid that sat only a few inches from his face. He had considered lining it with satin years ago, but he found that the wood still smelled warm and helped him sleep. But not tonight. The smell was overpowering, stinging his nostrils.
Lifting the lid of his coffin, he took a deep breath to try and rid his nose of the smell.
"Louis." He sat up, looking over to the coffin that lay next to his. "I can't sleep."
No response.
"Louis."
The lid of the other coffin cracked open, and Lestat could see those beautiful green eyes staring back at him.
Louis opened the lid completely, shifting to make room for Lestat. "Come on."
Lestat quickly climbed in, Louis shutting the lid on top of them. The smell of mahogany was replaced with the smell of Louis. Satin and perfume and the light trace of his dinner, all lingering around him. It was comforting.
"I can't sleep either." Louis brushed hair away from Lestat's face, leaning in to kiss him.
Lestat smiled, kissing him back and sliding Louis's shirt down over his shoulder. He trailed his kissed down along Louis's cheek, then his jaw, and stopped at his neck.
Unveiling his fangs, Lestat bit down. There was no need to feed from each other, but he did it regardless. It was something only they could do.
"Lestat-"
Lestat drank, drowning in him. His scent. His taste. His heartbeat. Lestat loved him with his entire being. Though.. Someone else was also on his mind.
"Nicki.."
Louis gasped, the shock bringing him out of his daze. Nicki? He had never heard Lestat speak of a Nicki. "Who is Nicki?"
Lestat pulled away, a light flush appearing on his cheeks. "Don't worry about it, mon cher."
Louis looked at him for a moment, then decided it wasn't worth fighting for an answer. So much of Lestat's past was a mystery to him.
"Shall we continue?" Lestat leaned in for another kiss, but was quickly stopped by Louis.
"Perhaps we should just sleep."
