It was getting bad again.
The thought struck Kaveh like lightning as he came to curled up on the couch in the living room with papers scattered around himself and empty mugs littering the coffee table.
Stumbling, he made sure to swipe his phone from the pile of clutter as he made his way to the kitchen with unsteady feet. He hastily poured himself a glass of water, downing the whole thing.
It’s okay to ask for help, Kaveh.
His therapists voice rattled through his skull as he unlocked him phone. Soon enough, he found the contact he was looking for, finger hovering over the ‘call’ button.
Please, let me know if there is ever anything you need. Any time, I mean it, ‘Veh.
Swallowing his pride, he dialed his boyfriend. The phone only rang twice before Diluc answered.
“Hello there, love. Is everything alright?”
Dilucs voice was like a balm on his soul, his words like honey in tea on a cool winter evening.
“‘Luc, I need help.” Squeezing his eyes shut, Kaveh slid down the wall, tucking his knees up to his chest. “I’m on a steady downward spiral, I don’t think I can pull myself out of it right now.”
“I’ll be right there,” his boyfriend promised, and on the other end of the line Kaveh could hear scuffling as he grabbed his keys. “How are you feeling right now?”
“Miserable.” Chuckling without any mirth, the blond tucked his head between his knees. “Can you just sit with me and make sure I finish a bowl of soup?”
The sounds of a motorcycle engine revving to life cut through the speaker. “Of course. I’ll be there in 15 minutes. Will you be safe until then?”
A small smile wormed its way across Kaveh’s lips. “I will. Thank you.”
When he arrived, Diluc didn’t bother knocking, just let himself in with the key he had given him almost three months ago. Kaveh was not-so-secretly grateful, getting up would have just been one more thing, and if he knew anything about his brain, he was positive it didn’t need one more task to overwhelm it.
Diluc didn’t call out, but Kaveh was sure that he was taking stock of the state of the living room. Pushing himself back up to his feet, he crept back out, not bothering to put away the empty water glass. Chances were Diluc was just going to re-fill it and make him push more fluids.
His boyfriend wore his usual tense frown, but his eyes softened immediately once they found Kaveh’s.
“There’s my love.” Crossing the living room with those long strides of his, Diluc wasted no time in sweeping Kaveh into an embrace. “How about we get you situated on the couch again and I’ll heat up some soup for you.”
Before he could fully process what was happening, Kaveh was cuddled up on the couch and swaddled in blankets as Diluc to special care to organize his papers the way he knew he liked them. When he deemed them organized enough, a gentle kiss was planted on his forehead, and Diluc was disappearing into the kitchen. Kaveh allowed himself to drift as the sounds of the microwave drifted through the house.
You don’t have to feel guilty for asking for help.
Maybe he really was making progress in therapy. He couldn’t remember the last time he had asked someone for help without having already hit rock bottom or being forced to by someone else.
As a small smile began to bloom across his lips, Diluc returned with a steaming bowl of soup and a full glass of water. Placing them on the table, he settled himself down on the couch next to Kaveh, pulling him in for a kiss.
Diluc tucked a strand of sandy-blond hair behind his ear, and Kaveh felt as if he would explode from the sheer force of the love in his boyfriends gaze.
“How about you take the rest of the day off? We can relax together,” Diluc whispered against his lips, a large hand gently rubbing up and down his back.
“I’ve been doing nothing but sitting around for the past three days. I need to do something actually productive, I can’t just keep pushing my projects off.”
Diluc went to speak but Kaveh quickly leaned forward, silencing him with a quick peck.
“I know what you’re doing to say ‘Luc, but I promise this will help me feel better. Just sit with me while I work?”
Without wasting a second, Diluc was wrapping his arms around the architects waist, pulling him as close as their bodies would allow. Pressing a gentle kiss to the side of his boyfriends neck, he pulled forward the proposal that was closes to them.
“Tell me about this project while you work on it?”
