Dropoff

Summary:

After months of recuperating in peace and away from the public eye, Mama & Papa Bear drop off Nicole (yes the Nicole from S24 b/c that is Olivia Benson's daughter around here, bring her back) at her new school, for her first day. It does not go as smoothly as planned.

Based on a tweet by Rosie @obensonsgf, Thank you.

Notes:

Be nice, I wrote this in an hour on a plane, next to a guy who was driving me batshit. 🤣

Work Text:

“Do you have everything you need?” Olivia pestered the older teen once again.

“Yes. This is the fourth time you’ve asked me that this morning. Olivia,” Nicole paused to sigh and correct herself, “Mom, I’m fine.”

“I just want to make sure you have a good first day at your new school. Remember you can call me if you need anything or if you want to go home.”

“Liv…” Elliot interjected from the passenger seat, not even looking up from the text he was sending.

“I’m just providing options.”

“You’re hovering.”

“I am not—“

“Mom you aren’t hovering, just concerned, but Elliot is 100% right. Now if you could unlock the doors, so I could actually leave, especially before your ‘argument’,” the student emphasized with air quotes, “turns into you guys flirting.”

Noah made a faux puking noise from his seat at the suggestion.

“And what would be wrong with that?” Elliot playfully leaned over to kiss the driver, her turning to meet him and provide the exact show the children wanted to avoid.

Unison groans of disgust sounded from the backseat.

“I thought you said you wanted me to have a good day.” Nicole complained as she pulled on the door handle, pushing on the locked door.

“I think my day may be ruined too.” Noah chimed in, one hand over his eyes to block his view of the front seat passengers.

The officers pulled apart with matching smiles.

“Fine,” Olivia jests as she hit the button to unlock the doors, “don’t spend time with your family.”

“Not when they are being gross. I love you guys. Goodbye.”

A chorus of ‘I love you’ rang out as the girl got out of the car.

Ever the parents, Olivia and Elliot watched her walk up to the building, to ensure she got in safely. Confusion graced their features when she paused mid-stride to turn toward a call of her name.

A boy.

“Uh who the hell is that?” Elliot’s eyes squinted in suspicion. “How does she know people here already, let alone a boy.”

“I have no idea.” The Captain watched the scene unfold. The excitement in the girl’s body language. His comfort in approaching her. The zero hesitation before going in for a hug. And…”Did they just kiss?”

“Oh hell no.” Elliot swiftly unbuckled his seat belt and threw open the door.

“El! Elliot!” Olivia beckoned him back as she wrestled with removing her own seatbelt. “Noah stay in the car.” She was out of the car at the speed of light following her stomping husband. “Elliot.” She attempted a ‘whispered yell’ as he quickly approached the teenagers.

“Who are you?” The detective didn’t even attempt a kind greeting.

Nicole’s smile faded upon seeing the broad man. “Dad, what are you doing?”

Olivia laughed as she stepped up to the crew, having heard the way Nicole addressed Elliot. Dad. Most of the time, he was only dad when she wanted something or they were having a heart-to-heart. On rare occasions, did she call him Dad when he was being over protective. It was usually ‘Elliot’ to create distance and provide a distraction to the event at hand.

“No, no. Don't ‘Dad’ me. You can't distract me this time. How do you two know each other? Your name young man.” Elliot’s eyes bounced between the kids, awaiting answers, slowly inching closer to the unknown boy, petrifying him with his towering and large stature.

“Mom.” The girl whined, pleading with her to remove her partner.

Olivia stepped between Elliot and the boy, who looked two seconds shy of peeing himself. “Hi, I’m Nicole’s mom. Nice to meet you. Don’t mind her father, he’s just over protective. You would’ve thought he’d have gotten it out of his system with her four older sisters,” Olivia’s voice changed as she spoke her supposed irritation through gritted teeth as her gaze traveled to her husband, “but no. Apparently not. So,” she grabbed Elliot by the arm, receiving an unappreciative huff in response as she began to slowly back away, “You two have fun, but not too much fun, today and we’ll see you later. ‘K? Love you.”

“I wasn’t done.” Elliot attempted to argue.

“Oh yes you were.” Olivia reprimanded.

“Liv—“

“Elliot.” Came her stern tone, only to be met with another huff.

As they turned to face the car once again, a string of horns blared, their own included, “I’m gonna be late for school! Also, this is embarrassing!” Noah yelled, stretching across the car to access the steering wheel.

Yelled complaints from those behind them in the drop-off line floated through the air along with the excessive beeping.

“Cmon! You’re holding up the line, people have got to get to work!” The man parked behind them yelled.

“Shut up! We’re going!” Elliot screamed back, receiving an unenthusiastic look from his wife and the line attendant, whom Olivia was already apologizing to for his outburst and holding up the line.

As they rode off, a pouty Elliot vowed, “If they are or get serious, I will know his name and interrogate him.”

“Sure you will honey.” Olivia playfully placated him.
