Chapter Text
Zelda descended a worn, crumbling staircase, slowly and carefully. The Links followed just a few steps behind her, each on edge as they ventured farther and farther beneath the surface of Hyrule.
Their footsteps echoed eerily throughout the quiet passages, the sounds reverberating off the stone walls.
It was Red who first broke the silence. He held his fire rod aloft like a wavering torch above his head, illuminating the dark tunnel ahead with warm, flickering light. But he was trembling. "Guys, I'm scared. This place is really creepy," he whispered, voice quivering as his wide eyes darted around the tunnel uneasily. He clung to Blue's arm, his fingers clutching the fabric of Blue's sleeve.
The blue clad hero gently ruffled Red's hair fondly, showing a rare sign of affection in an attempt to comfort the other. "Hey. It's okay, Red. I'm here," he whispered back, his other hand on the sapphire Four Sword at his hip.
Red let out a squeak, darting to hide behind Blue when something hit the ground behind them with a soft clatter, echoing through the tunnel.
"If I'm being totally honest, I agree with Red. This place is creepy," Shadow added with a small shudder, walking a few steps behind them. "And that's saying a lot coming from me."
Vio hummed softly in agreement, his violet eyes sharp and unwavering as he surveyed their surroundings. But there was a subtle, barely noticeable glint in the violet clad hero's eyes that revealed that, beneath his composure, he too was on edge.
A faint, but dark mist swirled around them in wispy tendrils as they walked, its presence sending an uneasy feeling through them. Zelda reached a hand out, hesitantly, her fingers outstretched as if she were to touch the mist. "This strange gloom keeps getting thicker," she murmured.
"I have a bad feeling about this place. Something doesn't seem right," Green added, his shoulders tense. His hand drifted instinctively towards the Master Sword on his back, the emerald Four Sword belted at his hip glinting in the light of Red's fire rod.
A silent exchange passed between Zelda and the Links as they pressed forwards. But not even a split second later, their progress came to a halt. They stared down a second, worn staircase that plunged deeper into the dark bowels of Hyrule Castle.
"Woah," Blue murmured aloud, voicing what they all were thinking.
Zelda turned her gaze back to the Links. "We've been descending for a while now. These tunnels are deeper than I thought. What could be down here?" she asked.
Green drew in a breath, his hand resting on the hilt of the Four Sword, as they continued their descent down the staircase into the murky depths. A vast cavern awaited them at the bottom of the staircase, the walls adorned with strange, luminescent rocks that cast an eerie glow around the chamber.
Vio examined the walls with a curious gaze, his hand outstretched to touch the peculiar surface. "Hmm, interesting," he mumbled to himself, reaching for the worn, leather journal that hung at his hip. With practiced grace, he flipped it open, his quill scratching the parchment as he muttered, "what are these? I've never seen anything like this before." Carefully, he knelt down to pick up one of the mysterious rocks. He adjusted his glasses, pushing them up the bridge of his nose as he studied it, before tucking into a pouch at his hip.
Shadow watched him out of the corner of his eye, his smile taking on a hint of tenderness, as the violet clad hero straightened up and brushed the dust from his hands.
Zelda stood a few feet away from them, her gaze never leaving the eerie gloom. Her lips turned down in a perturbed frown. "People have been falling ill after coming into contact with the gloom drifting through these caverns. Though here it seems almost misty and not concentrated enough to harm us. We’ll keep going." Her eyes shifted back to the Links, her expression carrying a hint of unease. "With it coming up from beneath Hyrule Castle…"
She paused, her gaze lingering on the others, worry etching a glint in her eyes.
"We do not know what waits below, so we need to be ready for anything," she continued, her voice steady. "But I know I'll be okay with you five. Let's go solve this mystery," she concluded.
They started forwards, and Vio's keen eyes remained fixed on the cavern walls as they walked. "This is all amazing," he said softly, a faint smile playing on his lips. Zelda nodded her head in agreement.
"I never imagined this was all beneath Hyrule Castle," she replied, meeting his gaze.
A warm, fond smile crossed Vio's face as their eyes met. "To think this was underneath our feet for quite possibly a few millennia is absolutely astonishing," he remarked, his eyes sweeping over the cavern once more. "It's magnificent."
"I couldn't agree more," she replied with a gentle laugh.
They exchanged another glance as they continued through the caverns. Green led the way, the others trailing closely behind him, with Red's fire rod casting an ever-welcome glow to light their path.
After a few minutes of walking, Zelda came to a halt, pivoting to face the Links.
"When I was a child, I asked my father if there was anything below the castle. He told me there was, though seeing it for ourselves or even discussing the matter was forbidden. No one in our family knew anything more than that," she told them.
"Huh, I wonder why it was forbidden?" Red wondered aloud.
Blue shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe there's something down here," he suggested, eyes narrowed. His deep blue eyes were nearly indistinguishable in the dim light, "something that could harm or destroy the people and lands of Hyrule."
"That seems likely, especially considering all the things Hyrule has already faced," Vio agreed.
"Yeah," Red said, a shared understanding settling among the group.
Green cast a fond smile over his shoulder, his emerald eyes focused on his brothers as he took a step forward. However, just as he moved, a gentle, pulsing glow began to emanate from the Master Sword strapped to his back.
"Green!" Zelda's eyes were wide when their gazes met. "The Master Sword. It must be sensing something! I knew we had reason for concern."
Shadow shivered, his shoulders hunched as he curled around himself. "I can sense it too," he admitted quietly. Vio gently nudged Shadow's side when he noticed the other's unease. He wrapped a comforting arm around his shoulders, their gaze locking in a moment of shared concern and understanding.
The black clad hero leaned into Vio's touch, breathing a soft sigh at the comforting affection.
"Ever since the end of the Calamity, the castle has fallen into neglect. But I never could have imagined anything like these tunnels were hiding here. We must be careful as we move deeper," Zelda said.
Green nodded his head solemnly, sharing a silent understanding with the other Links when he glanced at them. "We will. I promise, Zelds," he reassured her with a tender smile. He reached out and gently took her hand, offering a comforting squeeze.
Zelda drew in a deep breath, her eyes reflecting the weight of her family's history. "I can recall what my father said, even now. "No one must venture beneath the castle—not even one of us." He said this warning had been passed down through my family for as long as anyone could remember," she said, reluctantly releasing Green's hand.
She fixed her determined gaze on the Links. "We need to continue to explore this underground area, forbidden or not. The source of the gloom is down here somewhere. I am determined to discover the connection between this place and the emergence of the gloom."
"Let's keep on going. We're sure to find some clues to all of this ahead."
They pressed onward, passing through rooms that appeared as if they had once been part of an ancient structure, their walls lined with crumbling pillars. Zelda paused, kneeling before a small, weathered wall, with Vio by her side.
"These are ruins from an ancient civilization," she said, studying the wall. "Wait-" she paused, squinting at the faded runes inscribed on the wall, "something is written here. Might these ruins be from the Zonai?" She turned to Vio, her eyes shining with a hopeful glint.
"It's quite possible," he agreed, inspecting the ruins for himself.
As they continued their exploration, Zelda paused once again, this time before a set of intricate carvings that adorned the walls.
"These carvings," she studied them intently, her head tilted to the side in contemplation. "I'm sure they're Zonai in origin. I've seen designs like this in my studies. The Zonai are said to have lived long ago, in the time of earliest legend. They possessed godlike powers and had a prosperous civilization in the sky. Many history books tell us about the Zonai, but none gives us the full picture. Much is still unknown about them." She trailed off, lost in thought as she stepped closer to the carvings.
Her hand extended, her fingers nearly grazing the designs.
"Hey, Zelda! Look at this!" Vio called from across the room, drawing her attention away from the statues.
He stood in front of a large, ancient archway, an imposing portal to the mysteries that lay beyond. Flanking the entrance were two more statues, remarkably well-preserved despite the multiple millennia that had passed. They stood tall, like silent sentinels, appearing to guard whatever was ahead.
Zelda crossed the room to stand by Vio's side, a device in hand.
"Is this what the Zonai looked like?" she wondered aloud, "They seem so different than us, and such large ears." Her brows furrowed in thought. "How did the ruins from a civilization in the sky end up here beneath the castle?" Zelda's gaze shifted to the pathway through the arch. "It looks like the path ahead goes even deeper. Let's continue, you five."
As they crossed through a room full of statues, Green tensed, his hand falling to the hilt of his sword as a soft sound echoed from ahead.
A swarm of Keese emerged from the shadows, surrounding the green clad hero as he stepped into a spacious room.
"I hate Keese," he muttered to himself, wrinkling his nose as a look of irritation crossed his features. He deftly swung the Master Sword, slicing through the monsters with relative ease. But one escaped him, shrieking as it darted back towards him.
Before it could strike, an arrow pierced through the air, knocking the Keese to the ground with a shrill screech.
Green turned to see Vio, standing in the doorway with his bow still drawn. "Thanks, Vi. I owe you one," he said, a grateful glint in his eyes as he smiled at the other. The purple clad hero nodded, the hint of a smile lingering on his face.
Zelda hurried to Green's side, the others close behind. "You're not hurt are you, Green?" she asked, inspecting him up and down with worry in her eyes.
"I'm fine, Zelds," he reassured her, his smile filled with fondness and affection.
Zelda's gaze lingered on him for a moment, before shifting to their surroundings. They stood in the center of a cavernous room, its walls curving around them. "Look at these murals," she breathed, casting her gaze upon the murals adorning the chamber walls. With wide eyes filled with awe, she moved closer.
Vio trailed after her, his journal clutched in his hand, equally captivated. "They're breathtaking," he whispered.
"The written histories of the royal family include stories of a great war fought long ago. It was a conflict between the allied tribes and someone only ever referred to as the Demon King. Is it possible? Do these murals depict the same legend?" she asked, her excitement palpable as she practically vibrated with energy.
Zelda raced down the line of murals, Vio hot on her heels. "This is similar to the statues we saw earlier—a Zonai. And these figures look like Hylians."
She took a step back to properly inspect the murals, her eyes tracing the intricate details. "This depiction certainly suggests the Zonai descended from the heavens."
"That's quite possible," Vio agreed.
Zelda paused, her gaze fixated on a mural to her right. Slowly, she approached it, a look of curiosity in her eyes.
"It is said that my ancestors—the first of Hyrule's royal family—were born from a union with gods who had descended from the heavens. These murals tell a similar story, and if they are accurate, then the gods mentioned were the Zonai. They must have forged a relationship with the Hylians of that time, working together to establish the kingdom of Hyrule!"
"This figure," she pointed to a specific figure in the mural, "He seems to be stealing something of incredible power from the young kingdom. This all aligns with what I’ve read during my studies."
Zelda shifted her focus once more. "And then this. It shows the Demon King! And a fierce battle against him."
Taking a step back to take in the full scope of the murals, Zelda's eyes sparkled with realization.
"If the creature depicted here really does represent the Demon King, then… Incredible! This mural must be the great war recorded in the royal histories! This is the Imprisoning War and the events that led up to it!" Zelda turned to Green and Vio, her face lit up with an expression of pure joy and excitement.
"This is a huge discovery!" she squealed.
Vio met her gaze, the excitement in her eyes mirrored in his own. "This is absolutely amazing!" he agreed, his pen dancing across the page as he scribbled something in his journal.
Behind them, Green and Shadow exchanged an amused glance, sharing a soft chuckle at Zelda and Vio's enthusiasm.
"Pfft, nerds," Blue teased with a fake scoff, his arms crossed and an eyebrow raised. Vio couldn't help but roll his eyes in response.
Zelda reached for a device secured to her hip. "All right, then. Now to use this invention of Purah's. I'm glad I didn't leave it behind. It's so easy to record. You point it and click," she explained, capturing images of the murals surrounding them.
She paused, her gaze drawn to a pile of rocks that seemed to hide the remaining murals from view.
"Oh, it looks like the rest of the murals are obscured," she said, but she couldn't hide the tinge of disappointment in her voice.
Her eyes shifted to scan the chamber around them. "Just what is this place?" Zelda turned to face the Links. "Maybe we'll find more answers farther ahead. Let's keep moving deeper," she told them.
They proceeded forwards, but Zelda trailed back to walk alongside Vio.
"I can't tell you how excited I am. The murals down here—their images support so much of what historians have written about," she said.
"I agree," he replied.
"But I find myself wondering, how did this area come to be so forgotten? Why was our history left hidden here? Did the royal family in those ancient times want this place and these murals to remain secret and out of sight? I can't shake the feeling that we're missing something here. Why would anyone want to keep this whole area a secret? It can't be because of what's shown in those murals." Her words trailed off briefly. "I can only hope we'll find more answers farther below."
"The gloom is growing heavier as we go. It's more and more unnerving…I…don't like the look of this," she admitted. "But we must find the answers, Vio."
He nodded. "We're gonna figure this out. I know it, Zelds. Don't worry," he assured her, nudging her side affectionately. She returned the gesture with a smile.
"Right," she agreed.
They pressed on through the ancient tunnels, crossing through a worn doorway and along a dim hallway. Time had left its mark on the structure, evidenced by the worn arches and crumbling, stone staircases they descended. With each step, the gloom seemed to thicken, clinging to them like a shroud.
Then, suddenly, they found themselves in a vast, ominous cavern. They stood on a small outcropping of rock, peering out into the inky abyss, their surroundings plunged into impenetrable darkness.
In the midst of the almost suffocating darkness, a strange, swirling light pierced the shadows, casting an eerie glow through the dark.
"That green light in the distance. I'm having the strangest sensation. This is all so ominous…" Zelda murmured, her voice barely louder than a whisper. "What is this place?" she asked. Her gaze shifted from the light to the Links. "Let's continue. But we must be extremely careful."
Green nodded, his eyes scanning the darkness. "We will," he affirmed, casting a brief glance at the others. "Stay on your guard," he instructed, "we don't know what's down here."
With careful steps, Zelda stepped forwards, hesitant of what awaited them. The Links followed closely behind, slowly approaching the mysterious, swirling light.
"What is that?" she asked.
An ancient, lifeless corpse hung suspended in the center, a strange, glowing arm protruding from its chest. The mysterious light appeared to rise from the severed arm, whereas the gloom seemed to emanate from the corpse.
"What in Hylia's name…" Vio breathed, drawing in a sharp breath and taking a hesitant step back, as they all took in the sight in front of them.
Then, all of a sudden, the arm went limp, falling from the corpse to the ground with a soft thump.
A peculiar, small, white crystal, shaped almost like a gently curved teardrop slipped from the arm as it hit the floor, coming to rest at Zelda's feet. She knelt down, hesitantly, but picked up the crystal all the same.
"Zelds, be careful," Green warned.
She held the crystal in her hand, her focus completely absorbed by the stone. Then, a soft, almost ethereal light began to radiate from the crystal, casting an otherworldly glow on Zelda's face.
A sound, a heartbeat, echoed through the room, startling all of them.
In an instant, weapons were drawn. Vio nocked an arrow, as the corpse before them began to stir, its movements sluggish as if its bones were rusted. Red let out a startled noise, almost like a squeak, when the corpse made an attempt to rise, but fell back, limp and lifeless.
"Zelds…" Green began.
Then, with an eerie swiftness, its head turned towards them, its eyes lit with a lifelike, red glow.
Blue swore loudly as gloom erupted from the corpse. It surged forth, thicker and denser than before, extending its blood red tendrils towards Zelda, who immediately recoiled in fear.
Without even a moment of hesitation, Green leaped to her defense, stepping between her and the quickly advancing gloom. The Master Sword was drawn in his right hand, illuminated with a radiant glow.
But when the tip of the sword plunged into the gloom, it reached with a violent surge, suddenly stronger as it crawled up the blade and enveloped Green's right arm. Agonizing pain tore through him, as the gloom ate away at his arm. He clutched at it, fighting back a sharp cry of pain.
Vio rushed forward instinctively when Green's legs buckled, grimacing as he struggled to support the green clad hero's weight. He bit back a wince, when a sharp, stabbing pain radiated through his right ankle.
Then, just as suddenly as it had begun, everything stopped.
The Master Sword's blade bore a menacing coat of deep crimson gloom, and Green's arm hung limp and blackened, as if the darkness had drained the life from it.
"Green, your arm," Vio breathed, his eyes widening as he inspected the damage.
Green dismissed it with a sluggish wave of his good hand. "'S fine, don' worry 'bout it," he mumbled, his gaze locked on the corpse.
Another wave of gloom surged towards them. "Green, don't," Vio warned. The green clad hero panted, and despite his exhaustion, he summoned the last of his strength and raised his sword.
But, the moment the blade made contact with the gloom, it shattered into a million pieces.
"The Master Sword!" Blue's voice rang out in a frantic shout, "No!"
A shard of the sword hurtled towards the corpse at top speed, slicing a gash on its cheek. From the wound, blood-like gloom welled up, steaming like acid.
"Green!" Zelda cried out.
"Was that the sword that seals the darkness? A blade that shatters so easily against my power cannot save you from me," the corpse rasped, its voice hoarse and grating, sending a bone-chilling shiver down their spines. Red inched back, taking refuge behind Blue. "Zelda…" its eyes fixated on her, "you, who carries that fragile sword are Green Link."
The corpse's crimson eyes shifted to the other Links, a malevolent glint in its eyes. "And you three are Violet Link, Red Link, and Blue Link, heroes of the Four Sword, as well as Shadow Link, the traitor."
At the mention of their names, they took an involuntary step back. Shadow couldn't help but cringe at the "traitor" part.
"Rauru placed his faith in you," the corpse continued to move as it spoke, straightening up ominously. "And that was all you could do?" he taunted, its eyes now squarely fixed on them, glowing with a menacing malice.
"How do you…know our names?" Zelda asked, unable to mask the tremor of fear in her voice.
Gloom erupted from the corpse, forming a dark, swirling vortex within his cupped hands. With a forceful thrust, he propelled his hands skyward. The malevolent gloom collided with the ceiling above, pushing it upwards. Massive stones tumbled from the ceiling, crashing violently onto the chamber floor.
Shadow couldn't suppress a muttered curse. "This isn't good," he hissed.
Meanwhile, on the surface, the very ground quivered, sending tremors rippling out from beneath Hyrule Castle. A stronger quake followed, shaking the earth as the castle began to ascend into the sky. Portions of the once-mighty structure, plummeting downwards as it rose, colliding with the ground with a deafening crash.
From beneath the castle, the gloom surged upwards, resembling crimson flames as it continued to propel it into the air.
Back within the underground chamber, the floor beneath their feet began to fracture and crumble away, descending into a gaping chasm and taking the corpse with it.
Vio stumbled as the floor beneath his feet fractured, his heart racing with dread. "Oh no, no. This is bad," he murmured. He glanced up, his typically calm, violet eyes now wide with fear. "Guys…" A step back proved disastrous when his foot slipped, sending him plummeting off the edge.
Everyone's eyes widened in horror as Vio disappeared from their sight. "Vio! No!" Shadow shouted frantically, bolting towards the edge and diving off in pursuit of the purple clad hero.
"Shadow!"
The ground continued to quake relentlessly, then, in a cruel twist of fate, it dropped out from under Red's feet.
"Red!" Blue called out, reaching an arm out towards the retreating red clad hero. But it was a futile effort, and he too vanished into the engulfing abyss below. "Oh, c'mon!" he shouted as he disappeared into the darkness.
"No!" Green cried out, his heart pounding. He made an instinctive move to follow after them, but a searing burst of pain from his arm stopped him dead in his tracks. He collapsed to a knee, clutching his arm as the pain radiated through him, rendering him helpless.
"Green!" Zelda's voice seemed to almost echo around him, a desperate cry ringing in his ears.
In a sudden, heart-wrenching instant, the ground beneath her feet cracked, causing her to stumble back. Her foot slipped on the unstable surface, and she fell backwards in a helpless descent, her wide eyes filled with fear and panic.
Time itself seemed to slow as she fell.
"Zelda, no!" Green turned swiftly with newfound adrenaline, his determination unwavering. He leaped forward, his ruined arm outstretched, desperately reaching out to catch her. For a breathless instant, it seemed as though time had slowed to a crawl once again. "Zelda!" The green clad hero's hand extended, but it was a futile effort. In a cruel twist of fate, he missed Zelda's hand by mere centimeters.
She disappeared into the gaping darkness, a soft, ethereal glow enveloping her as she vanished in a fleeting burst of light.
"No!" Green's anguished cry echoed throughout the chamber.
Just as the green clad hero began to plummet after her, something caught his unscathed left arm, halting his descent and tugging him upwards. His startled gaze shot up, locking onto the mysterious, glowing arm from before. "What in the-" he began, trailing off as he stared at it in shock. Before he could do anything, a brilliant burst of light erupted from the arm, blinding him as the light engulfed him in its luminous embrace.
***
Beautiful, radiant runes floated gracefully in the air, weaving intricate patterns and tendrils like ethereal dancers. They flowed seamlessly into a glowing arm, their glow dissipating as they vanished into the arm.
Green laid on the floor, his appearance peaceful as though he were asleep. The strange arm had replaced his ruined right one, its glow fading away as the last of the tendrils entered the arm.
His eyelashes fluttered as he stirred, and he blinked groggily, struggling to regain his bearing. With a sudden start, he sat up, looking around to find himself in a desolate crumbling chamber.
"Where am I? What is this place?" he wondered, eyes wide in both wonder and alarm.
His gaze dropped down to his side, and he recoiled in shock when he noticed his new arm. "What the heck? What happened?" he said as he inspected it, curling his hand into a tight fist.
As if it had heard him, the arm glowed with newfound light, and a soft voice rang out through the chamber.
"Ah, Green. Finally, you wake."
Startled, Green scrambled to his feet, adopting a fighting stance. His eyes scanned the room for the source of the voice. "Who's there? How do you know my name?" he demanded. Meanwhile, the arm continued to pulse with a soft light.
"I've heard a great deal about you from Zelda," the voice replied.
At the mention of Zelda's name, Green's tense posture eased and he relaxed. "Oh, alright."
The arm ceased its glow, as the voice continued. "Your wounds were severe. I am relieved to see you escape death. Your arm, however, was beyond saving. I had to replace it, lest the injury endanger you further."
"Oh," Green said simply, his gaze fixed on the arm again as he paused for a brief moment. "Then, thank you," he added. He raised his head, catching sight of something glinting out of the corner of his eye.
A few feet away from the green clad hero, stood the Master Sword, its blade buried firmly in the ground.
Green approached it cautiously, his eyes transfixed on his sword. He reached out, carefully gripping the hilt and slowly tugged the sword from the earth. He stared down at it, his eyes wide as he took in the sword's deteriorated state.
He frowned. "This isn't good," he murmured to himself, "it's worse than I thought."
With a sigh, the green clad hero shifted his gaze from the decayed sword. His gaze settled on what appeared to be an entrance, obscured by hanging vines. He approached it, his head tilted quizzically as a faint, distant hum echoed in the background, almost like flowing water. Drawing the decayed sword with practiced ease, Green sliced through the cascading vines, revealing a doorway beyond.
He took a hesitant breath, squaring his shoulders before stepping into the large, cavernous room through the doorway. "What is this place?" he wondered aloud to himself, his voice carrying throughout the empty chamber as he surveyed his surroundings.
He caught sight of a strange sight out of the corner of his eye, a glowing circle hovering within a stone ring, positioned in the very heart of the chamber. Intrigued, he extended his hand out, hesitantly, his fingers brushing the runes. He flinched instinctively, when the circle vanished into wispy tendrils before his eyes.
"Woah," he breathed, staring at the hand once again. "Interesting."
A blue circle, eerily similar to the ones within the old shrines, lit up on the floor behind him. Accompanied by a low, resonating hum, a loud, grating crash echoed through the chamber, as a strange gear-like contraption on the wall to his life whirled to life, its intricate machinery revealing a door in front of him.
Green paused for a moment, wondering what lay beyond the doorway. "I wonder what's through here," he said aloud, running up the stairs leading up to and through the door. Stepping into a narrow hallway, he traversed it with eagerness, only to have his enthusiasm interrupted, when suddenly he stumbled and slipped off of a platform. "Heeeeaaaaah!" he cried as he plunged into a pool of frigid water. "Jeez, that's cold! At least now I know how Blue felt when he was frozen!" he hissed when he resurfaced.
With determined resolve, the green clad hero swam to the shore, shivering and rubbing his arms to ward off the biting chill. Before him stood a towering wall blocking his path. But Green scaled it with ease, coming across a near identical version of the previous platform.
"Okay, let's do this right this time!" he told himself, taking a deep breath and squaring his shoulders. He dove from the platform, plunging into a second pool. He crossed to the shore, and repeated the dive from a third platform, this time landing in a significantly larger pool below.
"This place is massive," he remarked, his eyes scanning the expansive chamber as he swam.
Upon reaching the shore, he caught sight of a chest partially buried beneath a pile of rubble. "Huh, wonder what's in here," he wondered aloud, his curiosity getting the better of him as he kicked it open. "Ow! That was a bad idea! Why did I do that?!" he groaned, hopping about on his other foot as he clutched his foot in pain.
Kneeling down, he found a pair of worn, archaic leggings within the chest. "Hmm, pants. Definitely gonna come in handy," he said with a soft laugh, shaking his head at his own joke.
With newfound gear in tow, he turned his head, catching sight of a doorway out of the corner of his eye.
Curiosity led him through a hallway, and as he emerged from it, he found himself bathed in the warm, bright sunshine.
"Woah," he breathed, raising a hand to shield his eyes from the brilliant sun. Standing on a platform, high above the clouds, he looked out at the stunning sky of Hyrule. "This view is breathtaking," he murmured. A soft, somewhat sad sigh escaped his lips as he added, "man, I wish the others could see this."
Summoning his courage, Green approached the platform's edge. Then, without hesitation, he took a deep breath and dived from the ledge, arms outstretched as he descended through the sky.
