Chapter Text
Katsuki stormed into the dorm, a scowl on his face. For most of class 1-A, it wasn't an unusual sight. Katsuki was clearly angry but he was angry all the time. The class of heroes in training would be more surprised if he walked in calm or, god forbid, happy -- so it was hard to explain why this situation felt different, almost unsettling.
Katsuki didn't utter a single word as he paced quickly down the hallway, leaving behind his confused classmates. "What's up with him?" Denki asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
Hanata turned to face the others, their features were all twisted similar to Denki's. Something really was weird about that whole interaction, then. "Maybe Bakugou's just in a bad mood." He proposed.
"Isn't he always in a bad mood?" Ochaco mumbled in reply.
"That was different. I just don't know how to explain it." Ejiro said, earning lots of nods in agreement from the rest of the class.
After everyone had settled down again, they went back to watching the TV.
Meanwhile, Bakugou marched up to the door of Deku's room and knocked on it as loud as he could — without breaking it, that is.
After a few moments of waiting, he saw someone with short green locks peek his head through the entrance. "Kacchan?" Izuku asked, confused. The puffy bags under his eyes were enough of a sign to Katsuki that the other had just been sleeping.
Katsuki pushed the door fully open and scurried into his room. He laced his arms around both sides of Izuku and engulfed him in a big hug. "I didn't mean to wake you up, nerd." He whispered and rested his head on Izuku's shoulder.
Izuku didn't move at all. He was frozen in shock. Everything felt hazy. He remembered going to bed only an hour or two earlier so maybe this was all just a dream — a really, really strange dream.
Bakugou broke their hug and took a step back. He locked eyes with Izuku once more. "You should've come on patrol with me." He said, looking almost upset with the younger.
Now this was an unfamiliar sight for Izuku. Sure, Katsuki had stormed into his room millions of times before this but that was only ever to yell at him. In fact, he didn't think that Katsuki was even capable of expressing any emotions other than anger.
Bakugou grabbed one of Izuku's hands, interlocking their fingers. "C'mon, Deku, I wanna go shower."
Izuku paused, not letting himself get dragged along behind Katsuki. "Uhm, Kacchan, is everything alright?" He asked and attempted to pull his hand out of Katsuki's grip.
Katsuki stopped and turned to face the other. "I'm fine, Deku, just a little dirty from patrol. Now, please come on, I want to have a shower."
Izuku's face flushed red. "Kacchan, why are you making me come with you if you're the one who wants to shower?" He said quickly so Katsuki wouldn't start pulling him towards the bathroom again.
"'Cause I need your company, nerd." He answered like the words were commonplace for his tongue.
If Izuku wasn't bright red before, then he most definitely was now. "No, Kacchan, I've showered already." He said sternly.
Katsuki's face formed a pout — today really couldn't get any more abnormal. "Then at least come into the bathroom with me. You can tell me about your day or whatever."
Izuku was desperately trying to get out of this situation. Something had obviously happened to Katsuki during his patrol and Izuku wanted to take no part in it. "I'm too tired, Kacchan. Just let me go back to bed."
"Fine. But at least wait for me to join you in bed before you fall asleep again."
With his jaw hanging wide open, Izuku watched as Katsuki let go of his hand and walked quietly into the bathroom.
After taking a moment to clear his thoughts, Izuku decided to get to the bottom of this. He grabbed his phone from his nightstand, pulled on an oversized hoodie as well as a pair of slippers and began his walk down to class 1-A's shared living room.
His immediate understanding was that Katsuki had gotten hit by some sort of quirk during his patrol and that was the reason why he was acting so strange. But there were so many holes in that proposal.
For instance, why was Katsuki being so touchy towards him of all people? I mean, for all he knew, Katsuki might've done the same thing to the rest of his classmates when he entered the dorm but that didn't make much sense either.
On top of that, he also couldn't explain how Katsuki got hit by a quirk. Sure, he was on patrol but no villain sightings had been called otherwise he would have been notified of it.
He let out a sigh of frustration as he turned the corner of the hallway to see his classmates in the living room. Thankfully, the movie they had planned to watch together was still playing so none of them had gone off to their rooms yet.
"Hey, you guys, I really need to talk to you about something." He started and waited for everyone to move their attention from the TV to him.
Mina picked up the controller and paused the movie. "Midoriya? Is everything alright?"
Izuku walked closer to the group and sat down on one of the unoccupied seats. "Uhm, have any of you noticed how Kacchan's been acting a bit stranger than usual?"
Ejiro piped up. "I thought so too. When he walked past us he didn't say anything, like he was on some sort of mission."
This confirmed that Katsuki was only being touchy with him, then. "I think he was hit by a quirk," Izuku said, now feeling more certain of himself.
"Are you sure you guys aren't over-analysing this? Maybe he's just tired or something." Hanata offered. Izuku frowned at this. However, before he could explain what had happened, he got cut off by the ping of his phone.
A notification from none other than Katsuki Bakugou popped up on his screen. He opened the message hesitantly.
-
'My Favourite Hero' - 10:35 pm
-
Where did you go?
I forgot to bring clothes from my bedroom.
Please get some for me.
-
Izuku was taken aback. There was no way he was going back to Katsuki after everything that had just happened between them. Then again, the thought of the explosive blond getting sick, because he refused to bring him clothes, made him feel extremely guilty.
-
Me - 10:36 pm
-
I'm getting your clothes now.
-
"I'll be back in a second!" Izuku quickly said to his classmates before running in the direction he had come from.
"Wait, Midoriya, what's going on?" Tenya called out but Izuku was too far away to hear him.
He paced up the stairs and ran straight to Katsuki's room. Thankfully, Katsuki hadn't locked the door and he was able to get in.
He ran to the closet and fumbled through his clothes. It didn't take very long to find everything, especially considering how Katsuki only ever slept in a tank top, boxers and sweatpants which pretty much made up the entirety of his wardrobe.
After collecting the clothing, Izuku began fast-walking back to his own bedroom. He felt himself getting more and more nervous the closer he got. He wanted to make sure Katsuki didn't catch a cold but he also didn't necessarily want to take up Katsuki's offer of sharing his bed.
Although, he couldn't figure out if that was because he would be uncomfortable sleeping with his rival beside him or because he would find himself enjoying his predicament a little too much to keep considering Katsuki his rival in the first place.
He opened the door to his bedroom dubiously. The first thing he saw when he entered was Katsuki, sitting on his bed with nothing but a towel around his waist.
Maybe he shouldn't have come after all.
"Go get dressed" He squeaked out, throwing Katsuki's clothes at him. He had seen Katsuki naked before; in the changing rooms and even back when they were little but this was different — this was really different.
Katsuki had his abs on full display when he walked in and he was eyeing Izuku almost eagerly, like they were the main characters in some kind of R-rated romance film.
Okay, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration but since when had Katsuki of all people become so attractive? Maybe he had always been this sexy and Izuku was only just noticing now, after Katsuki had basically insisted they shower together. Together. That's exactly what he needed to do. He needed to pull himself together.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Go put some clothes on!" Izuku yelled, noticing how Katsuki hadn't moved from his spot on the bed.
"But Deku-"
Izuku immediately cut him off. "No. Nope. Absolutely not. Go get dressed, Bakugou."
Katsuki let out a defeated sigh and began walking back to the bathroom, clothes in hand. "You better not get used to calling me that, Deku." He said, grouchy and shut the bathroom door behind himself.
Deku found that surprising. He thought that Katsuki hated it when he called him 'Kacchan' but, instead, he seemed more upset by getting called 'Bakugou' as if that wasn't the name that connected him to his whole, very rich, line of family.
Izuku didn't know what to do. He could go back down to his friends and tell them everything that had happened since Bakugou decided to wake him up or he could stay exactly where he was, patiently waiting for Katsuki to get dressed for bed.
The first option seemed better by miles. He and his classmates could go tell the teachers and, hopefully, figure out how to make Katsuki turn back to acting like his normal, angry self.
On the other hand, Izuku wasn't opposed to the second option either. Katsuki would be out of the bathroom any minute now so leaving would be risking getting caught and stopped by him. Besides, he was extremely aware that even if he did leave, Katsuki would likely send him another message asking where he went and, in this muddle of tiredness, the last thing he wanted to do was explain that to him.
Also, maybe some selfish part of him wanted to see just how much he actually hated the idea of sharing a bed with Katsuki.
Just like clockwork, Katsuki exited the bathroom. His hair was still wet and falling down to cover his eyes but he looked much more put together now. Still attractive, just less sexy romance film attractive and more hot gym boyfriend attractive — not that Izuku was analysing him or anything.
"Thanks for bringing me clothes, Deku." He said walking up to the other.
Izuku couldn't help but notice Katsuki's new set of manners. Maybe that was what made him seem so much more attractive than usual. Katsuki was still calling him 'Deku', though. He guesses that even this quirk couldn't stop Katsuki from using that dumb nickname.
"Have you eaten yet?" Katsuki asked and reached for Izuku's hand. It was almost 11 pm at night, of course, he had eaten. Katsuki was clearly only trying to be polite though, so he nodded in return.
Izuku felt a weird sensation when Katsuki took his hand. "Are you okay?" Katsuki asked and squeezed it reassuringly.
Izuku wasn't okay at all. This whole situation was too abnormal for him. He had spent his whole life up until tonight being belittled and picked on by Katsuki but now everything had seemingly changed, all because of someones stupid quirk.
"I'm alright." Izuku huffed out and tried wiggling his hand out of Katsuki's grip — his attempts led to no avail.
He had to go down to the others, he had to fix this. But maybe, just for the night, he could be a little bit selfish. After everything Katsuki had put him through, this was merely his retaliation. "Just tired." He said in an almost whisper. He knew exactly what Katsuki was going to say.
"Let's get some sleep, then," Katsuki suggested and pulled Izuku along with him to the other's All Might-themed bed. Izuku complied with his actions, silently taking his place next to Bakugou. After taking a moment to slip into the bed, Izuku felt Katsuki move closer to him.
Katsuki wrapped his arms around Izuku tightly and pulled him into his chest. By now, Izuku was far gone. He wouldn't even be surprised if he woke up tomorrow and found out that this was all a dream.
"Nerd, before you drift off, can I say something." Bakugou started, his voice low.
"What is it?" Izuku asked.
"I just wanted to apologise for the way I treated you in middle school. I was thinking about it in the shower and realised that I never really got the chance to say sorry — so I guess I wanted to do that now." He inhaled, shakily. "Sorry for being a dick back then."
He was dreaming. Izuku was most definitely dreaming because there was absolutely no way that he just heard Katsuki correctly. "You're sorry?" He repeated. He thought the concept of apologising was foreign to Katsuki. He spent his whole childhood with the blond yet, he could count the amount of times he had apologised on one hand.
"Yes, I'm sorry," Katsuki whispered and moved one of his hands up to Izuku's cheek. "I hope you can forgive me."
This quirk was doing Katsuki wonders. Izuku found it almost humorous how it was making Katsuki own up to his mistakes but still allowing Katsuki to call him 'Deku'.
"Don't worry, Kacchan, I forgave you a long time ago." He responded, truthfully.
If Izuku fell asleep that night with tears streaming down his face then that was only for himself and Katsuki to know.
