Work Text:

Lan Wangji's eyes flutter opened with a sharp pain hitting his head. He's met with soft kisses of grass on his back and a light glow from the decending sun. The trees dance to the the wind as if worried he wasn't going to wake up.

Lan Wangji focuses on his breathing while slowly rising to look at himself. The demon first ate his left shoulder before he passed out, but now it's healed where his skin is shown. The young boy stares at the rest of his body wondering how much time had passed.

If the sun was was already going down, he must of missed his first day. Lan Wangji sighs and starts getting up. He really didn't want to worry his uncle and brother, but he just had to have an episode during homeroom.

While getting up, he noticed a vibrate red ribbon tied to a messy ponytail. A slender face and body pasted with fair skin wearing the same uniform. The boy from earlier was laying just a bit away from his front. Lan Wangji finally stood up and warily walked towards his peer.

"Wei Wuxian!" No response.

"Are you alright?"

When he reached the boy, Lan Wangji was confronted with a passed out Wei Wuxian who thankfully didn't seem to hone any injuries. Now that he gets to see his face, Lan Wangji is at awed at how pretty he is.

His lashes are long and curvy giving him fox like eyes just above his punctual nose. His cheeks and lips are pretty shade of flush pink that complement his light skin. Lan Wangji also notices the many silver piercings on both ears. He decides the bunny ones on his right ear are his favorite. However before Lan Wangji can continue studying Wei Wuxian's attributes, the boy start squirming and slowly blinking his eyes open. His eyes struggle to focus, but soon they shot at Lan Wangji and widen.

"YOU!"

Quickly sitting up, Wei Wuxian grabbed the other boy's shoulder scanning the tear on his shirt.

"I SAW–"

Now his silver eyes met Lan Wangji's golden ones.

"THERE WAS A MONSTER EATING YOUR SHOULDER! HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?!"

His worried expression left Lan Wangji feeling guilty again for causing more problems because he couldn't be eaten without drawing attention.

He then took hold of Wei Wuxian's arms, gently taking them off his shoulders while putting on his best poker face.

"I am fine.", he finally spat out.

Wei Wuxian wasn't convinced of course, but Lan Wangji quickly continued before he could speak.

"It's late. We should go home."

After both helped each other up, the walk home was rather awkward until–

"You are..",

Wei Wuxian was the first to break the silence.

"...very pale. So pale...you almost look dead."

Lan Wangji internally grimaced. This isn't the first time someone pointed out how dead he looks. He hated how unnaturally light his skin was. It made any mark he got stand out so much.

"Nonsense." He retorted.

Wei Wuxian giggled, "Sorry. That was mean. Aiya our first interaction wasn't great either. I'm usually so good at making friends!" He pouted.

Grinning now, Wei Wuxian lightly twirled in front of Lan Wangji.

"Let's start over. I'm Wei Wuxian but since we're already such great friends, you can call me Wei Ying!"

His smile was honest and warm making Lan Wangji feel a spark of quiseness and excitement.

Scary, he thought.

So in a neutral expression and tone, he responded "Lan Wangji."

However, Wei Wuxian didn't seem satisfied with this response. His bright smile became an unamused frown and he started to playfully poke his chest.

"I know that name! It's the name you introduced yourself to everyone in class." He started to pout again.

"Didn't I say we were such good friends? Practically soul mates! Tell me your given name."

That same smile spread across his face making Lan Wangji go through another loop.

"Shameless!" He stated, then proceeded to walk.

Wei Wuxian chased after him, "I swear I'm a good friend!"

Struggling to ignore him, Lan Wangji heard him say, "Look I'll even walk you home. You live in the house in the the corner of that Cloud Recesses neighborhood right? Let me take you home."

A sigh came out of Lan Wangji. He felt that even if he refused, Wei Wuxian would follow him anyway.

"How do you know where I live?"

Wei Wuxian's eyes widen but relaxed right away happy it wasn't a rejection.

"Everyone knows. No one else has lived in that house for as long as I could remember."

He gave Lan Wangji a soft smile.

"How is it? Is it cozy or scary? I've never been inside."

They or Wei Wuxian really, continue to talk on their walk home. Lan Wangji learns the boy has two siblings he adores and loves teasing. Art is a little hobby he persues and his favorite subject is science. It turns out that Wei Wuxian is also a little rebel wearing that many piercings which is apparently against dress code.

When Lan Wangji asks why he continues to wear them then, Wei Wuxian responds with, "Well running away from teachers is kind of fun until you get detention, but I don't really mind. Besides, girls love bad boys don't they?"

Ending with a wink, Lan Wangji responds with, "Ridiculous!"

This makes Wei Wuxian go into a laughing state.

"Er-gege your such a fuddy duddy! Does your vocabulary only consist of nonsense, shameless, and ridiculous!?"

Lan Wangji ignores his remarks because before long, both boys stand in front of his gate.

"Eh! We're here already?!"

Wei Wuxian became dramatic again making a face like it was the most astounding thing in the world.

Lan Wangji slowly opened the gate preparing what to say to his uncle and brother once he stepped inside. Surely they would bombard him with questions he really didn't want to answer.

"Hey."

A soft but stern voice called to Lan Wangji.

"If your ever in trouble, don't hesitate to look for me. I'll make sure to help as best I can."

This new smile held a gentle security that allowed Lan Wangji to feel at ease.

He shouldn't have false hope, but this boy and his nonsense have made him feel normal for once. Throughout this whole interaction he hasn't been on edge looking for demons that may come for a meal. He wasn't mentally preparing for the jarring bites and the ripping of flesh his skin he has grown used to now.

More.

He wants more times like this where where he could feel like a regular teenager.

Just as Wei Wuxian was about to take his leave, "Lan Zhan.", Lan Wangji lets escape.

He looks at those surprised silver eyes that could make anyone swoon, and says, "You can call me Lan Zhan."

Wei Wuxian stays silent for a second but immediately gives Lan Wangji a bright smile and waves goodbye taking off.

"I'll see you at school tomorrow then, Lan Zhan!"

Lan Wangji nods and expresses his farewell.

"Mn. See you Wei Ying."

Notes:
