Work Text:
2-D took a deep breath before beginning. "I'm looking out-"
"Your voice sounds airy." Murdoc glared at 2-D. "Do it again."
"I'm lo-" The singer began again.
"Now you sound like you're trying to seduce someone. Calm down."
"I'm sorry, who's the singer here?"
"Listen here, smartass. People just don't know how to appreciate true vocal talent. And also-"
"Just shut up and let me record this." 2-D grumbled, trying to sing again. Murdoc seemed to find this acceptable and let him sing.
Murdoc moved out of sight and 2-D assumed he was ready to leave him alone. He got about halfway through his recording before a green hand and needle came into view.
"This looks fun. Doesn't this look fun Stuart?"
"Murdoc I need to get this done."
"Hey lighten up, seriously. Just messing with you.. maybe."
"Maybe?"
"Oh bloody hell just record the lyrics!" Murdoc stormed off.
2-D bit back a snarky response and just sighed, singing again. He ended up fumbling the lyrics and had to stop. He got more frustrated as each recording ended up getting messed up some way or another and he ended up running out of the room.
Murdoc was about to follow him out when Russel stepped in front of him. Murdoc was about 3 seconds away from snapping before a strong hand gripped his shoulder.
"I'm letting you do this. Don't make this worse, got it?" Russel spoke, voice cold. Murdoc just brushed him off and walked past, muttering something in agreement.
Murdoc didn't have to think much on where 2-D would be. His room was usually his go-to. Yet, when Murdoc checked, he wasn't there.
No big deal, he was probably in the kitchen. He had a tendency to make himself coffee or tea as a way to calm down. But when Murdoc got there, once again, no sign of him.
Okay, this was fine. He could've just been in Murdoc's room. Yeah, he had to be. Murdoc thought as he started walking. 2-D's been in there enough times so maybe-
Nothing.
This raised some alarm. If there was one thing known about 2-D, it was how predictable he was. Part of the reason why people didn't freak out when he vanished.
Making his way back to the others, Murdoc looked around, hoping 2-D had just showed back up. But when he was met with the expectant faces of Russel and Noodle, a pit formed in his stomach.
"He's gone."
The words left an awful taste in his mouth. He shouldn't feel this guilty over just some emotional outburst the singer had but-
"Russel and I are going to split up and look for him, it's probably nothing." Noodle said, voice hopeful but her eyes had clear worry. Everyone tried to convince themselves that 2-D wouldn't really run off during recordings. But, it still wasn't a good idea to leave him. Last time he ran off out of nowhere, they had found him passed out with half of his body in a lake. (The lower half, thankfully. So he just got sick instead of drowning)
Murdoc stood still as the others left the room. He was always one for antics and annoyance but he felt weird. He really pushed it too far…
He brushed his thoughts aside and left the room, deciding to check outside. He saw a familiar tall figure mounting a motorcycle. It was darker and harder to tell who it was but the height and jacket were enough to know exactly who it was.
Murdoc ran up to the motorcycle, wrapping his arms tightly around the singer. 2-D yelped, trying to escape the grasp but Murdoc didn't let go.
"Just let me leave-! I'll be back later I swear!"
"Stuart..."
"I just needed a minute to clear my head!"
"Stuart."
"I would've finished recording but I couldn't focus with you-"
"Stuart!"
2-D finally went quiet, prompting the shorter to continue.
"...I'm sorry."
Any words that had started entering the singer's head left in seconds. Murdoc was known for his cocky attitude and inability to take responsibility for his actions. Apologies were something unheard of to Murdoc, it had seemed. Even back with the whole incident with Paula, Murdoc didn't apologize. And yet here he was, saying he was sorry.
2-D must have been lost in thought for a bit as he returned to reality with Murdoc snapping his fingers in front of his face.
"Hellooooo? Earth to faceache. Did you hear me? Because I'm not saying that again."
"Y-Yeah I heard you. Just.. caught me off guard."
"Naturally. My great acts of kindness blow people away."
"The only blowing you do is in bed."
"Jealous?" Murdoc snickered.
"Oh hush it." 2-D really hoped it was dark enough to hide the flush on his face. He stared down at the motorcycle they were both on before looking back to Murdoc.
"..Wanna go for a ride?"
"It's dark and your eyesight is crap."
"So no?"
"Never said no. Just not now." Murdoc said, getting up and leading them both inside.
