You poked your head into the large cave, sniffling softly as you looked around. You’d had a bad day, a coworker giving you trouble at work and your boyfriend breaking up with you because you were ‘too high maintenance’.
Currently you were seeing if your friends were home, the lovely yellow garden spider named Sun and a pretty blue tinted black widow named Moon.
“Sun? Moon?” You called out, looking among the various webs throughout the cave to see if you could spot them. There was no luck so far….wonder where they could be?
You’d failed to notice one of them creeping up behind you, squealing loudly in alarm as large, strong arms pick you up suddenly. “Starrrrrliiight….what’s a pretty morsel like you doing here already?” Moon asked, looking down at you. Usually you didn’t come by until later in the evening, it was only about four o’clock now, making it much earlier than your usual time to stop by.
You sniffled again, Moon looking at you closely. He could tell you’ve been crying. “Oh sweeeetheart….” Moon softly crooned. “Sunny should be back soon from foraging, why don’t we get comfortable and wait for him?”
Moon didn’t give you much of a choice before moving you to his and Sun’s shared nesting area, settling down with you amongst the soft webs.

“Oh he did not!” Sun gasped, listening intently to your story. The pair had been doing a pretty good job of getting you out of your sad mood, Sun even giving you a small bowl of berries to eat while you talked.
“He did! I don’t even know what he meant by high maintenance either, I just work, play games and hang out with him!” You said with a groan, laying back against Moon.
“If anyone is high maintenance it’s Sunny, you should see how long he spends grooming himself every morning.” Moon teases, earning a gasp from his mate. “I am not!!! W-well….I do like to be clean! Can never be too clean!” Sun said, obviously embarrassed.
“Well you look great Sun! There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look your best!” You said, hugging him with a happy sigh. “Thank you guys, I don’t know what I’d do without you. Besides obviously be dead in the woods somewhere.” You said with a nervous chuckle, remembering how terrified you’d been when they’d rescued you from when you slid down a cliff and got stranded on a ledge.
“Of course Sunshine!! We’d help you again in a heartbeat, you’re the sweetest and I know you’ll find a perfect mate soon! He just wasn’t worth your time.”
“And if that person you work with keeps being ruuuude…..just invite them for a talk by the forest, they won’t bother you again.” Moon said with a grin. You know he meant well but you weren’t sure if Moon meant to eat them or just scare them….
You fought back a yawn, a fruitless attempt as they both saw how exhausted and stressed you were. “You should take a nap Starlight.” Moon said, gesturing to the chest of comfy clothes you’d kept here. “Get comfortable, get some rest, we’ll be here for you.” He said sweetly.
You were reluctant but nodded, the two driders turning away from the chest so you could put on comfortable pjs before tapping Moon on his abdomen. He turned to you with a smile, immediately scooping you up. “Let’s get some rest…Sunny is making stew for dinner, he’ll wake us when it’s ready.”
Moon crawled into his nest, holding you close to him.
It didn’t take you long to fall asleep, feeling safer than ever in the arms of one of your best friends.
