To say it’s been a while since Dewdrop had emerged from his room was an understatement. It’s been two days since he indulged into the hallways of the Clergy, and the other ghouls were worried to say the least. Of course, they had left him food and he had eaten what they brought him, but then they would never see the dishes again and they could just scrunch their noses at the thought of how badly it smelt in Dewdrop’s usually good smelling room.
So when the fire ghoul had left his room, steam rolling out of his nostrils and mouth when the breathed, was a surprise to the other ghouls. The siblings that were previously roaming about in the halls had quickly dispersed, not wanting to be in the fire lane of Dewdrop’s rage.
“Hey, Dew.” Swiss comments when Dewdrop walks into the kitchen with a little more stomp than usual.
Instead of answering normally, Dewdrop huffs a large puff of smoke fire out of his mouth and directed right to the fridge. He pulls out the jug of apple juice, harsher then he had expected, and all but drops it onto the kitchen counter. He grabs a cup from the other side of the kitchen, his tail whipping harshly around his ankles.
Dewdrop sets the cup next to the large jug of apple juice, and twists open the cap. But the cap does not come off, and Dewdrop growls, shoving it over. Swiss quickly catches the jug before it actually falls onto the floor and possibly bursts open. He sees that Dewdrop’s fingers had melted the cap a bit and opens it for him, deciding to pour the ice cold drink into the cup.
The fire ghoul doesn’t thank him, and storms off to sit at the kitchen table. “Not even a thank you?” Swiss chortles, screwing the cap back onto the jug, and sticks it back in the fridge.
Before Dewdrop can get into a heated fit, Rain speaks up from where he was reading at the end of the table. “Go bother Cumulus and Cirrus if you’re going to be a jerk to Dewdrop right now. Maybe they’ll shut you up.”
Swiss gapes and jokingly slaps his hands over his chest. “Rain! How could you say that to me?” He then groans. “C’mon! He’s been in his room for days! I’m not allowed to tease just a little bit?”
“No.”
Swiss grumbles mimickingly under his breath, turning to leave the kitchen. “Good to see you out of your room though, Dewey.”
Dewdrop only growls and flips the multighoul off.
“Oh you calm down, too. He has the right to be sappy with you after you go M.I.A. with no warning.” Rain huffs and it becomes obvious that Rain was too a little upset about the absence.
Dewdrop slumps in his chair, taking a big swig of his glass, setting it down no where near to graceful. “Fuck off.”
Sunshine strolls into the room, and instantly beams at the sight if Dewdrop. “Droplet! I’ve missed you! Oh, could I have a sip of your-“
“Touch my drink and I fucking take your eyes out and shove them in your ears.” Dewdrop growls, unmoving.
Sunshine freezes and awkwardly pulls her hand away. She then shrugs and pets Dewdrop’s head despite the growls she earns. “Oh. Okay. Well, I’m going to go find Aether. Bye Rainy!”
Rain gives Dewdrop a disapproving look the second Sunshine is gone, and sets his book down. “Come here.”
The other ghoul slumps further in his chair for a moment, his skin sizzling as he fought himself. Ultimately, he shoves his drink near Rain and makes his way over to Rain, plopping himself onto the water ghoul’s lap.
“I missed you too.” Rain whispers, tucking his chin over Dewdrop’s shoulder.
Normally, the fire ghoul would freak out and push him away. And he did. But then he calmed down because it was just the two of them. No one else was observing, it was okay. So Dewdrop settled back down on Rain’s lap, and took another sip of his cold apple juice. “Sorry.” he mumbles out.
“It’s okay, honeydew.” Rain grumbles, his tail wrapping around Dewdrop’s waist, showing he was not wanting to let go even if his arms around the other were loose. “You promised you would come see me before it got this bad.”
Dewdrop frowns and picks at the skin around his claws, his tail whipping around near his feet. “Sorry.” He hisses out again. “It sorta just fucking punched me in the fucking face.” The fire ghoul admits sourly, curling up on Rain’s lap.
Rain gives a comforting smile that was laced with the hint of worry like a drink that had been poisoned by the person who loves you most. Not the whole fake love where the persons only goal was to poison the other they led on, but the part of the story where they both actually really love each other but it was always supposed to happen that one poisoned the other.
The little fire ghoul twists to face Rain, pressing his forehead against Rain’s cheek. “Is it normal to feel so…” He makes a motion with his hands, waving them near his head.
“To feel so what, honeydew?” Rain mumbles, kissing Dewdrop’s temple. “I can’t answer if I don’t know what you’re trying to explain, love.”
Dewdrop butts his head into Rain’s chin, his horns lightly scratching his jaw. “I don’t know the word for it.” A stream of smoke spills from his mouth, the veins on his skin brightening at his struggle.
He gets a kiss in turn. “It’s alright. Can you try to explain it for me, my little flame?” His voice is soft, and he rubs Dewdrop’s thigh.
“I… I just get so… empty? I should feel something and I know I should, but I just don’t and then I get angry because I can’t, and it’s like- it’s like thats the only thing I can feel.” Dewdrop huffs, wringing his hair out in his hands.
Rain pets Dewdrop’s hair. “Hmm. That’s okay, I think. It’s okay to not know how you feel, honeydew. No one has to know how you feel unless you want them to, and no one can tell you that you have to tell them how you feel. Your feelings are your own and you can choose who you share them with.” He nuzzles his face into Dewdrop’s neck with a low purr.
Dewdrop bites his lip, bringing his hand up to rub Rain’s upper back. “Is it?”
“Yes, my little flame.” Rain affirms, tilting his head up to kiss Dewdrop once more. “It’s completely okay to have your own feelings that you can keep to yourself. I just hope you feel comfortable enough to share with someone when your feelings are sad or hurt.”
Dewdrop smiles. “I’ll try.”
“That’s all I ask. I love you, Dewdrop.”
“I love you too, Rainy. I think I love you a lot. Dewdrop whispers barely over a whisper, and if he was purring, no he wasn’t.
