Work Text:
It was the year 2042, the world is much different than it was a few decades ago. Those born in these unfortunate times never knew what life was like before everyone was thrown into poverty. The global economy collapsed and the climate had changed drastically. Most of the world was covered in water, making it uninhabitable. The world population was in the millions, and going down everyday because of this hell hole. Many never made it past the age of forty now.
The world was split up into Districts:
The Northern District, the Southern District, the Eastern District, and finally the Western District.
The Northern District and the Eastern Districts were where some of the richer survivors lived, those who were lucky enough to end up here lived in luxury compared to the rest of the Districts.
The Southern and the Western Districts were filled with homeless and hungry citizens. Anarchy arose in those districts as those with little sanity left often stole from others. Those districts were in such disarray that it was hopeless for the Northern and the Eastern District's to help.
Tooru Oikawa was a teenager that was fortunate enough to be born in the Eastern District, he lived in a wealthy family. His parents worked for the government and their family often got more than the usual citizens of the district.
His parents refused to tell him of the conditions the other districts were in. He was aware the Northern District was similar to theirs, if not more comfortable than their district. But he knew nothing of the Western and the Southern District's. He desperately wanted to know more but whoever he asked never gave him any answers, whether they knew or not.
This caused the brunette to want to see those districts for himself.
During the night while his parents were asleep, he donned a cloak and left through the window. The Northern and the Eastern District had walls surrounding it and a gate that was impossible to get through, authorities didn't want anyone to escape to the other districts. Oikawa didn't think he could get past without getting caught. His parents would lose their jobs for sure if he did get caught. The brunette continued down the walkway towards the gates, he had to think of a way to get through.
Oikawa hid behind a building close to the gates, he looked around the corner to see guards patrolling the area. He was so dead if he got caught. He shook his head to clear away his thoughts. He had to be calm. If he wasn't, he was going to slip up. The brunette made sure that none of the guards were looking before running towards the security office, he could hide behind that building for now.
Sirens started blaring from the security office, he had forgotten about the security cameras. He was going to get caught!
"Attention all security personnel, a figure in a cloak has been spotted heading towards the gates! I repeat: a figure in a cloak has been spotted heading towards the gates!"
Oikawa cursed himself as he made a break for the gates, he just couldn't keep his curiosity inside and these were going to be his consequences. He could hear a stampede of footsteps following behind him.
"Stop right there!"
The brunette continued to run and as he got closer to the gate he realized that he was going to have to climb the wall to get across. There were guards waiting for him at the gate. Oikawa looked for anything he could use to climb the wall and with a stroke of luck he found a ladder that most likely was used for maintenance. He changed his route and headed for the ladder.
"He's heading for the ladder!"
"Catch him!"
Oikawa scrambled up the ladder, it was hard to pull himself up when he was so tired but he had to get across. If he didn't, he could say bye bye to his parents jobs. As he climbed he could hear guns being cocked.
'Shit!'
"Fire!"
All at once bullets started to shoot towards him, he mentally started to panic but if he stopped he was sure to get shot!
He could see the top of the wall coming into view! He saw something moving out of the corner of his eye and saw guards running across the top of the wall. This was bad! Oikawa climbed a little bit faster, he was at least a few hundred feet in the air at this point and if anything went wrong he was going to die. The brunette finally got to the top of the ladder and paused for a moment, unsure of what to do.
"There he is!"
Oikawa turned to look at the guards that were running across the top of the wall, they were getting closer!
"Are you stupid?!" A voice said from his right. He turned to look at them, they had a cloak on. The same as him. And in the moment that he was distracted, a gunshot sounded out through the air and he felt a red hot pain in his side. He yelped as he lost his balance and collapsed on top of the wall.
"I shot him!"
"You are stupid!" The owner of the voice exclaimed as they grabbed his arm and dragged him onto his feet. They made him run even further to a rope that was hanging onto the wall by a grappling hook. Oikawa was pushed towards the rope
"Climb down!"
Oikawa grabbed a hold of the rope and pulled himself down. He slid down a few feet but he decided he didn't mind, he just got shot, he could deal with a little rope burn. The owner of the voice followed after him and together they slid to the ground. The owner of the voice pulled on the rope causing the grappling hook to fall.
"We lost them! Call the army!"
'The army?!'
The brunette started to panic once more, he just wanted to see the other districts! At that moment the adrenaline finally started to wear off and his world started to spin. In just a few short seconds, everything went black.
When he woke up he was lying on a blanket and he had no idea where he was. His side hurt like it's never hurt before. He didn't know that getting shot would feel like this! And because he was spotted, his parents were going to lose their jobs for sure. His father was probably going to disown him for this! Hopefully no one saw his face, but even then it wouldn't matter! His parents were going to report his disappearance and they're gonna put two and two together!
"You're awake."
The brunette stopped his mini panic and turned to look at the owner of the voice, it was the same one from the wall! Did he save him? Oikawa tried to sit up but was too weak to do so.
"Don't get up. You lost a lot of blood."
Oikawa sighed and relaxed himself, he deduced that the man wouldn't have helped him if he had evil intentions.
"Who are you?"
"None of your business."
The man paused and checked the wound in his side
"But I know you, you're Tooru Oikawa. Son of a government official."
Was he really that known here?
Oikawa sighed and brushed his hair out of his face "Thank you for saving me."
The man scooted away from him after checking the wound, he was very gentle. Oikawa hadn't felt him at all.
"I wouldn't have had to if you didn't try to climb the wall in the first place. Why would a rich boy like you want to be in the Southern District?"
"I wanted to see what it was like."
The man sighed "You're unbelievable. Hasn't anyone told you about the horrible state of the Southern and the Western Districts?"
"No one's ever told me about the other districts. That's why I got curious."
The man snickered "And now you're in trouble with the districts!"
Oikawa frowned "Wouldn't I only be in trouble with the Northern and Eastern Districts?"
The man stared at him in silence, or he could assume that because he was still wearing his cloak. It was hard to see his face.
"You're an idiot. The army patrols all of the districts. The Eastern District called for the army's help, so that means you're in trouble in all the districts."
The brunette froze.
He really is stupid!
How could he not know that!
The man chuckled upon seeing his panic "Don't worry rich boy. I'm sure your daddy will bail you out of jail with all the money he has!"
"This isn't funny!"
"What part isn't? This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen anyone do! And I've seen a lot of things in my life time."
Oikawa was done with this, he might as well turn himself in. There was no point in trying to run. The brunette sat up, it was a struggle but he managed.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to turn myself in."
"No you're not."
Oikawa huffed "You can't tell me what to do, Mr. Whatever your name is!"
The man slowly reached up to his hood and pulled it off his head, he had a frown on his face. Oikawa couldn't help but notice how handsome he was.
He had dark brown hair and beautiful green eyes, his skin was tan and he had a few scars littered across his face and neck.
"What are you staring at?"
The brunette looked away in embarrassment, he hadn't meant to stare.
"Can I know your name now?"
The man shook his head.
"What was the point of showing your face to me then?!"
"I was getting hot."
Oikawa hadn't realized that he wasn't wearing his. He wasn't lying on a blanket after all, it was his cloak. Oikawa took in his surroundings, they were in an alleyway somewhere. The buildings around them all looked run down. The brunette placed a hand on his side, putting pressure on his wound. It made it feel better, if only a little bit.
"You're really not thinking about turning yourself in, are you?"
"I am."
"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."
The brunette shrugged, it may have been but he made up his mind. He stood up and picked up his cloak from off the ground and shook the dirt out before putting it on.
"You don't even know which way the Eastern District is from here."
"And so what? I'll probably come across a soldier from the army."
The man rolled his eyes and stood up after him "You're stubborn. It's annoying."
Oikawa sighed and bowed slightly, "Thank you again for helping me."
And without another word, the brunette set off. He didn't hear the man's footsteps behind him so he knew he wasn't going to be stopped.
He walked through the alleyway until he was met with a small town, there was many booths filled with food that was less than ideal to eat. He pulled his hood up over his head, he didn't want to have the townsfolk angry at him. He had already been shot by security, he didn't need any injuries from angry citizens!
Oikawa came across a booth that had cloaks for sale, he figured he should replace his since that one had a hole and blood on it.
"How much for a cloak?" He asked the woman working the stand.
"300 yen."
Oikawa reached into his pocket and pulled out a pouch, he didn't want to bring his wallet in case it got stolen. There wasn't very much money in it but he knew he had enough for the cloak.
He handed the woman the money and picked up a dark green cloak, it reminded him of the man's eyes.
"I'll take this one."
"Whatever." The woman said as she waved him off.
Oikawa turned away from the booth and looked for a place to hide so he could change his cloak. He placed his hand back onto his side and continued walking forward. He got stares as he went past, they must not get new people in town very often. Oikawa walked for a while before he found an empty alleyway. He made sure no one was around before slipping in. He quickly ripped off the original cloak before switching them out. When he turned around there were two men staring at him. They both seemed surprised that he was there.
"Well look who we have here!"
The brunette cursed himself again, maybe he should've went the other way?
"What are you doing here, rich boy? Got a death wish or something?"
One of the men pushed him against the wall "You got any money? I bet you do!" His money pouch was ripped off of him and the man looked inside of it.
"There's no way that you only have this much!"
He looked at the other man "Let's search him!"
Oikawa held his tongue, he didn't want this to end worse than it might already. His cloak was ripped off of him, but before anything else could happen someone popped out of nowhere and punched the two men. The two collapsed immediately. Oikawa stared down at the men with a frown, that was anti-climactic.
The brunette remembered that someone else was there and hurriedly picked up his cloak off the ground.
"Idiot."
Wait a second..
"It's you! Have you been following me?"
The man folded his arms "I only did it because your clumsy ass went the wrong way, trashykawa!"
"So rude!"
"Is kusokawa better?"
"No need to get so vulgar!" Oikawa exclaimed while putting his cloak on and picking up his money pouch.
"Besides, I'm heading the wrong way on purpose. It's easy to see which way I actually have to go."
"Right, the wall."
The man sighed "Morning's going to come soon, It'll be harder to hide you from the locals when the sun comes out. Let's head to where I'm staying."
Why would the man invite a total and complete stranger into his home?
Oikawa smiled mischievously, the man couldn't see his face so he could do it all he wanted.
"I won't go unless you tell me your name!" He crossed his arms and turned up his nose, hoping to get a reaction.
The man turned and looked at him "Fine. It's Hajime Iwaizumi."
Oikawa stood in shock as he watched the man- Iwaizumi- walk off. He wasn't expecting him to actually tell him his name. They were strangers! Well he was no stranger to Iwaizumi.
"Are you coming?"
The brunette uncrossed his arms and scrambled after the green-eyed man.
Iwaizumi led him to a building that looked too run-down for anyone to safely be in it. Contrary to what was previously thought, Oikawa was led into the building. There weren't many people there but they all seemed to know Iwaizumi.
"Where have you been? The army is patrolling, you could've been taken away!"
"I'm fine."
The old man smiled at him "I can see that you brought a newcomer home! Why don't you introduce him to me, Hajime?"
Iwaizumi seemed to freeze, was he not good at coming up with names?
That sucks because Oikawa wasn't either.
"His name is-"
"My name is Shokupan*!"
The silence was almost deafening in the building, Oikawa hadn't intended to say it very loud.
"Shokupan? That's...an interesting name! I like it! Welcome to our home!" The old man said with a grin. Oikawa smiled back to keep himself from sighing in relief. He didn't think anyone would take him seriously. Iwaizumi sighed and pulled him toward a secluded area. It seemed like nobody wanted to be back there. Probably to give Iwaizumi some space.
"Shokupan? Is that the best thing you could come up with? You're an idiot."
"Jeez, idiot this. Stupid you that. What is wrong with you? I have feelings too, Iwa-Chan!"
Iwaizumi pulled his hood off and glared at the brunette in front of him "What did you just call me?"
"Iwa-Chan?"
"That's stupid. We're not kids."
"Iwaizumi is too long to say."
"So then call me Hajime!"
Oikawa folded his arms "I like Iwa-Chan better."
Iwaizumi rolled his eyes and pointed to a bed in the corner
"Just go to sleep."
"And what if I don't want to?"
Iwaizumi glared at him "Then just lay there and rest. You got shot just a few hours ago!"
Oikawa huffed childishly but inside he agreed with him, it was starting to hurt a lot worse than it had been.
"I didn't clean the wound earlier because I didn't have the resources. So lay down and I'll be back." Iwaizumi said after shoving him towards the bed.
Oikawa smiled to himself. The green-eyed man seemed like a hard ass but it was plainly obvious that he was caring.
It made Oikawa feel fuzzy inside.
The brunette made his way toward the bed, it looked beat up and it was ripping in some places but when he laid down he found that the bed was surprisingly comfortable. He closed his eyes with a sigh. He's been having an interesting experience while he was here. Though it wasn't what he was expecting. If he was honest, he was afraid to go back home now. Especially now that he was considered a fugitive. And for the millionth time that evening he worried about his parents jobs.
"I hope they don't lose their jobs.." He muttered to himself
"Who?"
Oikawa jerked his eyes open, how long had Iwaizumi been there?
Once his heart stopped racing he answered in a huffy tone "My parents."
"Don't you think they would worry about finding you first?"
"They're important people in the Eastern District. They would probably leave me for dead if it meant they could keep their jobs."
Iwaizumi grimaced "That isn't right."
Oikawa shrugged before looking down at his side, Iwaizumi was rubbing an alcohol pad on it. But he couldn't feel anything.
"How are you not flinching?"
"I can't feel it."
Iwaizumi nodded "Must be nerve damage."
The two sat in silence as Iwaizumi cared for his wound "The bullet is still inside you. It could've gotten into one of your organs."
"Then cut me open to check."
"What?! I'm not a doctor!"
"If we don't I could die."
Iwaizumi shook his head "I'm not cutting you open, Crappykawa!"
Oikawa sighed, Iwaizumi didn't seem that much older than him. The last thing the green-eyed man needed was an accidental murder to ruin his life. Especially if it's the son of a government official.
"If I get taken by the army there is a chance they'll check it out."
"You're right."
The brunette almost felt sad at how quick Iwaizumi answered. What was wrong with him? He literally just met the green-eyed man no more than three and a half hours ago.
"I'm done. Sit up so I can bandage you."
Oikawa sat up and watched as Iwaizumi leaned in and started wrapping his wound. He could feel the latter's body heat.
"There."
The two stared at each other for a second before a loud bang and screams erupted from the other side of the building. Iwaizumi stood up quickly.
"Stay here."
Oikawa nodded and watched as Iwaizumi ran to see what was going on. Gunshots sounded out through the building, what was going on? Was Iwaizumi going to be okay?
"There he is!"
Soldiers rushed toward him with their guns pointed at him
"Put your hands up and get on the ground!"
Oikawa shakily did just that, they were a lot more intimidating than the guards from the Eastern District.
"Tooru Oikawa, you're under arrest for sneaking out of the Eastern District walls."
One of the soldiers lowered his gun and pulled handcuffs out of his pocket, he knelt over Oikawa and put them on him. They were too tight but Oikawa knew better than to complain right now.
Two other soldiers picked him up off the ground and dragged him towards the entrance of the building. He was dragged over dead bodies and he almost gagged when he saw the body of the old man he had spoken to earlier.
The only person he didn't see was Iwaizumi. Where did he go?
Oikawa stopped walking and looked around the building frantically
"Keep walking!" One of the soldiers shouted, shoving him.
The brunette groaned as the man pressed on his wound, he finally willed his feet to move.
He should've known that this total stranger would abandon him the second danger arrived.
The soldiers pulled Oikawa's hood up when as they went outside. They were probably ashamed that some nobles son was a fugitive. Oikawa was thrown into the back of an armored truck and he jumped when the doors slammed shut behind him. The darkness was weighing in around him.
Oikawa laid face down on the floor of the truck, he really was a stupid idiot like Iwaizumi said! How could he do this? The weight of everything that happened started to push down on his shoulders. He was going to be in so much trouble with his parents. They would never look at him the same ever again!
The truck came to a screeching halt, causing Oikawa to crash into the wall. He could hear yelling outside of the truck as someone turned the ignition off. As he listened the doors opened revealing his parents. His father looked beyond pissed and his mother looked nervous.
One of the soldiers helped Oikawa out of the truck and led him to his parents
"We cut this off our records." The man said as he unlocked the handcuffs. Oikawa shook his hands to get circulation back.
"Get in the car, Tooru." His father told him as he walked past him to talk to the soldiers. He was seething.
Oikawa got into the car and put his seat-belt on, there was no point in trying to speak. A few minutes later, his parents got into the car and once they were settled in his father started the ignition. Silence was deafening as they drove away from the gate. They arrived at their house ten long minutes later.
Oikawa's father parked the car in the garage and shut the door, in a split second Oikawa was being dragged into the house by his neck. It hurt but he couldn't voice it.
"WHAT THE FUCK TOORU?!" His father screamed as he was thrown to the floor.
"I-I'm sorry Father! I just wanted to-"
He didn't get to finish as his father slapped him in the face "Do you know how much money it took to clear your name? And we can't even take your dumb ass to the hospital because guns aren't allowed in the Eastern District! It would've been impossible for anyone else to shoot you! Everyone's gonna fucking know what you did you stupid child!"
Oikawa couldn't help the few tears that slipped down his cheeks, it was one thing if a random stranger he just met called him stupid but it was another thing when it was his own father.
"Oh now you're going to cry? What the hell are you crying about? You brought this upon yourself. You will deal with the consequences!"
His father went into the kitchen and came out with a knife "Go get into the bathtub. I'm going to cut the bullet out of you." The brunette's eyes widened, this wasn't going to go well!
"Go get the first aid kit, dear." His father said to his wife calmly. She went off with no hesitation.
"GO TOORU!!"
Oikawa scrambled up the stairs, missing a few steps in the process. He couldn't help it! He was terrified!
He rushed into the bathroom and watched as his father walked in after him
"Take your shirt off."
The brunette tore the cloak off and fumbled with his shirt buttons, he threw the shirt onto the floor when he was done and tore off the bandages getting into the bathtub. He was shaking uncontrollably but it was too late to do anything. All he had to now was endure it.
His father knelt down and shoved a towel into his mouth.
"Turn to your side."
Oikawa did as he was told and shut his eyes as tight as he could.
He couldn't feel anything at first, and he could only assume that was because his father was cutting the entry wound, but as the cut was made bigger the pain ramped up. Oikawa would've been screaming so loud that people at the gate might've heard him if it wasn't for the towel in his mouth. His screams were the same volume as a regular voice, albeit a little muffled.
"Stop moving or I'll make it hurt worse."
Oikawa felt tears slipping down his face, this was pure torture. A welcoming punishment for what he had done he supposed.
His father cut deeper into the tissue and through the muscle, the entire right side of his torso was throbbing in pain.
Things started to go black for him as he saw red liquid start to pool in front of his face, the iron smell was so strong it made him want to puke.
"I got the bullet out. Give me the stitching stuff." His father told his mother. He hadn't realized his mother was even there. She must've taken off her heels.
If he thought the cutting was bad, the stitching was even worse. A needle poking into the same muscle and skin that was already cut, over and over again was agony. Oikawa was shocked that he hadn't passed out already.
"I'm done. Now get up and wrap yourself. After that go to your room and think of what you did."
He heard his fathers dress shoes thumping out of the bathroom and down the stairs, he waited until he heard voices somewhere downstairs to get up. He was in so much more pain then he originally was. The bullet didn't seem to be too deep into his body. Which was good.
He grabbed the bandages from the first aid kit and wrapped his side, it was a pain to figure out how to do it himself but he managed. This was his punishment after all.
The brunette picked up his cloak and put it on before picking up his shirt from off the floor, his pants were bloody from laying in the bathtub and his shirt was bloody from when he got shot so he tossed them in the trash, no big deal. He had others.
He changed into alien pajama pants that he had gotten that passed Christmas, it normally filled him with joy to wear but it didn't today. He decided against wearing a shirt and took the cloak off, he laid himself gently in bed. He was sobbing now, it hurt so much. And that was how his trip to the Southern District went.
He must of slept the entirety of the day because when he woke up it was dark. He looked at the clock, it was just after midnight.
He was feeling feverish. He sat up slowly looking around, his eyes paused on a figure sitting in his desk chair, staring at him. If he wasn't in a delirious state he probably would've been scared.
"Who are you?"
"How are you feeling?" The figure spat at him
'That voice..'
"Iwa-Chan?"
The figure crossed their arms "Answer the question Tooru."
'Tooru?'
Oikawa was confused, why did Iwaizumi sound so angry? And why did he call him 'Tooru'?
"I'm fine Iwa-Chan. Don't worry!"
"Are you hallucinating? I'm not this..Iwa-Chan? Did you meet a girl while you were out there? Unbelievable you stupid child."
The brunette blinked a few times and soon his father came into view. What the hell? Why does he have Iwaizumi's voice?
"Did you have fun while you were over there? Did you meet a nice girl? Oh wow good job Tooru!" His father said sarcastically. Oikawa was livid, his father was bad-mouthing Iwaizumi!
"He's not a girl."
His father froze for a moment "No. No, don't tell me you swing that way! That's disgusting!"
Oikawa frowned, what was he talking about?
In his delirious state, he couldn't understand what his father meant.
"I'm disappointed in you."
Soon after those words were said, his father left the room. Leaving the words to echo behind him. A few seconds later his father came back in, almost as if he forgot to say something.
"I forbid you from seeing this..Iwa-Chan again. Not that you're ever going back through the gate."
Oikawa understood those words a little too well in his delirium.
'Never see Iwa-Chan again?'
Tears flowed down his face as sobs echoed out through the room, through them he could hear his door shut.
He tried curling up into a ball but couldn't because of the stitches on his side. He was an absolute mess. And for what? Over a man that had abandoned him?
Oikawa sighed as he stopped crying long enough to think: He could go back over the wall and not endure this, as far as he's concerned his father will never treat him the same again. Granted he wasn't really treated well to begin with.
He made up his mind. He's going back.
Even if he was left behind, he was going to find Iwaizumi. But what would he do once he finds him?
Oikawa stood up from his bed, his fever making him dizzy.
He needed a way through the gates without being detected. He didn't think he could climb the wall in his state without being killed.
The brunette pulled a pair of jeans out of his drawer and changed his alien pajama pants out for them, he chose to just put the cloak on instead of wearing a shirt. He didn't think he could wear one anyway. He grabbed his wallet and shoved all his money into his money pouch. He didn't plan on coming back home so there was no point in leaving it behind. He put his phone on silent and threw it underneath his bed, he felt that would help for some reason.
Oikawa grabbed a rope off of his desk and took it to his window, he made sure that one end was tied to the radiator and threw it out the window. The same way he escaped the last time. Once he was on the ground he threw the rope up toward his room and after a couple tries it landed on the window sill. He took in his surroundings one more time, a little sad that he would never see it again, but this was more important to him. He glanced as his house once more before running down the street towards the gate. He had forgotten his shoes but he figured he would be fine.
As he got closer to the gate, he hid behind the same building from the other night. He peered around the corner and noticed a soldier was patrolling the area.
'There's my chance.'
He made sure to make enough sound to cause the soldier to want to investigate. It worked. Surprisingly enough. Oikawa hid in the darkness, waiting for the soldier to walk further behind the building.
The soldier was about to grab his radio when Oikawa sprung into action, he kicked the man in the groin before hitting him in the head as hard as he could with his money pouch. The man flopped over in a matter of seconds. The brunette almost felt proud of himself. This entire endeavor felt like a rush to his delirious mind.
The soldier seemed to wear the same size as him, Oikawa smiled at his luck. He quickly changed his clothes out, the boots were a little big but that didn't matter. Oikawa grabbed his cloak and tied it to make a little bag for his money pouch and clothes before grabbing the soldiers hat. The area was dark enough for him to not worry about his face being seen. He smoothed his hair back and put the hat on. He shoved any lose hair into the hat and hoped for the best.
The brunette slung the make-shift bag over his shoulder and grabbed the soldiers radio, the soldiers gun, and the soldiers ID. He didn't know why he was doing all of this and almost stopped himself. But he pressed forward.
He walked out from behind the building, quickly running into another soldier "What were you doing back there?"
"I thought I saw something."
"Well..just continue your route." The soldier responded with a hint of suspicion.
Oikawa calmly walked towards the gate, this was stressful but he couldn't help the small smile that showed up on his face. He must've gone insane.
He walked up to the security area and swiped the ID card, it was stupid that they didn't have people working out here for this exact reason.
He patiently waited for the gates to open with a grin. He made himself calmly walk through the gate and almost as soon as he couldn't see the security lights anymore, he took off the soldiers clothes and changed back into the jeans and cloak. He kept the boots on, that was probably a better idea then being barefoot. He put everything he took off into a pile in the bushes.
He was surprised how quickly he got past all that.
Oikawa picked up his money pouch and tied it to his belt loop. He was starting to feel dizzy again, the adrenaline wearing off from what just happened was making him feel even more delirious that he already did. He couldn't just quit now, he had to find Iwaizumi.
The brunette pulled his hood over his head and hoped for the best. He stumbled forward, making himself walk. And before he knew it, he had made it into the town he was taken from earlier that day. He stumbled through the crowd, bumping into some people along the way.
Oikawa had no idea where to start looking for Iwaizumi, he decided it might've been best if he looked where he last saw him.
He continued stumbling his way through the town, ignoring the calls of the people manning the booths. His side was hurting like hell because of all the movement he was doing. But he had to keep going.
The brunette stumbled through the entrance of the building, causing enough noise to make it echo.
"Who's there?" A familiar voice echoed back.
"Iwa-Chan." Oikawa breathed out. He was exhausted.
"Kusokawa?"
Oikawa stumbled through the darkness, he had to find Iwaizumi. He was so close!
It wasn't until he made his way to the back where Iwaizumi had treated him that he had finally heard the voice again
"Why are you here?" His voice was quiet, almost as if he didn't believe that the brunette was actually there.
"Iwa-Chan!" Oikawa whispered in surprise as he stopped in his tracks. He found him!
"I'm here."
Oikawa smiled as he let his body shut down and he collapsed to the floor. Blacking out once again.
When he woke up again, he wasn't feeling feverish anymore and he was lying in Iwaizumi's bed. The sun was out and it hurt his eyes, memories of how he got there flashed through his mind. He cursed his delirious self. He was surprised he wasn't dead!
"You're awake!"
Oikawa turned his head to see Iwaizumi walking toward the bed "You've been asleep for almost a week now. I've had to spend a ton of money on medicine for you." The green-eyed man said with a huff.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
"I'm feeling better. My side still hurts though."
"It's going to with that poor ass stitching. What the hell happened, Tooru?"
Oikawa whipped his head around to stare at the latter in surprise
"What?"
"Don't call me that, Iwa-Chan."
"What, you really want me to keep calling you Kusokawa?"
The brunette nodded, it was childish but it made him happy. He didn't want Iwaizumi to act any different then he did when he first met him. He was sure of that.
"As for what happened, I don't really want to talk about that right now."
Iwaizumi nodded "That's fine."
The green-eyed man leaned forward and lifted up the cloak to check the stitched skin, it looked better than it did when the brunette first came to find him.
"There are soldiers searching the Northern District and the Western District. I'm not sure why they haven't come here yet."
Oikawa shrugged "That's for the better, right?"
Iwaizumi nodded in agreement "You're right."
The green-eyed man reached over and clasped the brunette's hand "I'm sorry for leaving when the soldiers were capturing you. I figured you didn't need me anymore because you got what you wanted. I didn't think you would come back to look for me. Also, a lot of people in town said a man in a green cloak was stumbling through the plaza and crashing into people."
Oikawa grimaced "Yeah that was me."
Iwaizumi chuckled, it was music to the brunette's ears.
"I'm glad you came back."
Oikawa smiled "I'm glad I came back too."
"But what about your parents?"
"They'll live without me. And I hope they suffer because of this!" Oikawa said with a snicker.
Iwaizumi raised an eyebrow at the brunettes behavior, what had happened during the time that he was gone?
They were silent for a few minutes before it was broken by a couple sniffles from Oikawa.
"You can cry, I won't judge."
That helped the brunette to let the tears flow down his cheeks.
He had made the biggest decision of his life: To throw his life of luxury away for a man that he barely met and that (though it pains him to admit) he undoubtedly caught feelings for.
"I'll be here for you." Iwaizumi said as he wrapped his arms around the crying man in front of him. Oikawa hugged back. Though this past week has been tough he wouldn't have the outcome be any different.
And no matter how many times he get's caught, he will always return to his Hajime Iwaizumi.
He'll make sure of that.
