Work Text:
theodore had thought william had been in the bathroom for far too long.
“are you alright, darling?” he asked, shouting so william could here him through the door.
“not really.” he answered, his voice sounding rough and tired.
“what’s wrong, darling? can i come in?”
he heard a small “ok” and walked in. william was sat on the floor, face pale and hands clasped together. he looked as though he had been crying.
theodore sat down beside him, resting a hand on his thigh. “oh, darling. it’s ok, i’m here. how about we have a day in bed today?”
“but you wanted to go see the new exhibit at the war museum. i- i’ll be fine here. you go.”
“i can go another day, you’re more important. come on, bed.”

they lay in bed, william resting on theodore’s chest.
“m’sorry.” will murmured once he’d calmed down.
“what for?”
“ruining your day. i promise i’ll take you to the museum tomorrow”
“shush.” teddy’s voice was firm. “you have ruined absolutely nothing. now, can you tell me what’s wrong please?”
“just wish things were different with my family. i wish i’d fixed things with my mum before she passed.”
“will, that isn’t your fault. you put so much effort into trying to fix things and she never gave anything back.” he ran his fingers through his hair and kissed his forehead.
“i know. but i wished it’d worked.” he looked up at teddy with his vulnerable brown eyes. “i wish i had you sooner.”
“i wish i had you sooner, too. do you want some water? no offence, love, but you don’t look great.”
william gasped over-dramatically and sniffled a bit. “i can’t believe you’re calling me ugly when i’m sad.”
“no, no. i never said that. you are the most handsome man i’ve ever met. even when you’re sad.” teddy smiled.
william smiled. “yeah?”
“yeah. how are you feeling now?”
“a lot better, honestly. you make me feel better, teddy. i love you.” he squeezed his hand gently.
“i love you too. you know im here whenever you need me, darling.”
“i don’t know what i did to deserve you, but whatever it was must of been bloody good.” william murmured, littering kisses all over, from his collarbone to his jaw.
teddy smiled as william finally moved up and pressed their lips together in a soft kiss, his hand rested gently on his cheek.
“good lord. i don’t think i’ll ever get used to you kissing me like that, will. i don’t think i’ll ever get used to you just loving me, to be honest. still makes the butterflies in my stomach go wild.”
“i still make you nervous?” william asked, genuinely curious.
“well, yes. sort of. every time you kiss me, or tell me you love me, or call me handsome, i get all giddy because i can’t believe it’s actually real. i can’t believe i actually get to love you, and that you’re in love with me.”
william looked up at him in awe, with nothing but love and adoration visible in his eyes. “jesus christ, i love you. i cannot put it into words, teddy, but i love you so fucking much. i am the luckiest man on planet earth, and i just love you so much. i can’t believe your my husband, i just can’t. how on earth did i get so lucky?”
“shush. your making me blush.” teddy looked away in embarrassment, a smile playing on his lips.
“look at me.” will whispered, gently grabbing teddy’s chin and pulling his face back towards him. “god, you’re so perfect. i’m so lucky.”
“have i ever told you how much i love you?”
“once or twice.”
“i do. i love you so much.”
in reply, his lips caught williams in a searing kiss. “i love you too.”
“can we watch that film?” william asked once they’d gotten comfortable again.
“you’ll have to be a bit more specific, darling.”
“you know, the one where shakespeare has a gay love interest and the hot spanish one kinda looks like you.”
“king phillip the second of spain does not look like me! and he isn’t hot.” theodore defended.
“not the real one, but this one, yes. not my fault he’s walking around practically shirtless all the time. and the actor really looks like you! i’ve seen him in other stuff, he looks exactly like you ted.”
“maybe we should watch something different. don’t want this actor guy stealing my husband. what about that one show we keep putting off, about those two boys? you know the one i’m on about, heart-something.”
“oh, alright. only because it seems sweet. also, i love you too much for someone else to steal me. you’re stuck with me forever.” william leaned up to kiss him again.
“good. there is no one i’d rather be with than you, will. i love you.”
william gave him another kiss, a longer one this time.
“i love you too.” will looked away guilty. “also, is this a good time to tell you i accidentally dropped your toothbrush in the toilet?”
“will! you’re telling me now?” teddy ruffled his hair.
“well, i didn’t want you to be angry, so i thought i’d just casually slip it into conversation.”
“i can’t believe this. you’re buying me a new one. one of those fancy ones that tells you if you did a good job or not.”
“do those even exist?”
“i’m sure i’ve seen an advert for one somewhere. we’ll find one, don’t worry.”
“i’m sure you will. you know if i buy you one, i’ll steal it all the time.”
“you are very lucky i love you, william.”
“i am, aren’t i?” will whispers, kissing him again. “now let’s watch that show. i’m excited to see happy gay people.”
