Work Text:

Reko was never late. In her whole 23 years of life, she’s never been late, not to her own gigs and definitely not to class. Except this time she was, she blames it all on her brother for calling her so early freaking out about a certain hair dye—she doesn’t remember.

But after running from store to store to find the right one because he refused to leave the house with just a bleached head, she was late for her modern lit class.

Cursing her brother out under her breath, she jogged as safely as she could in school grounds to the large literature building. Reko had to dodge innocent students who were fortunate enough to not be late to their next class.

She didn’t factor in when she had to turn a corner though, and because of that, she slammed right into something—someone.

The other student yelled as they both fell on their behinds. Reko was the first to stand and compose herself, “I’m so sorry!” She rushed over, offering her gloved hand.

The other student, with unruly pink hair, rubbed her head as she took Reko’s hand, the singer tried not to focus on how soft it was, “I-It’s alright, I also wasn’t looking where I was going.”

Reko helped the other student up, once she stood to her full height, she noticed a bright green stain on the front of her shirt. Reko made a noise of shock, which made the other look down as well, her eyes grew, “Oh no! I was holding my paints when we ran into each other, the only time I don’t have my smock on!”

Reko was already panicking from being late to class, now she has to worry about how she ruined this pretty girls shirt, “I’m really sorry! Let me buy you a new one since I wasn’t looking where I was going!”

The other artist opened her mouth to refuse, to say she got paint on her clothes all the time, but something caught her eye. She couldn’t help but let out a bewildered laugh, Reko tilted her head in confusion.

“I’m sorry as well!” She then fretted, “It looks like I got my paint on you too…”

Reko looked down at herself, and sure enough, there was a big green splotch of paint on her bleached black tee. She couldn’t help but laugh as well.

The other girl bent down and picked up the culprit, a smooshed tube of fluorescent green paint, “At least it wasn’t one of my expensive ones,” she mumbled, “Still, since it got on you too, no need to buy me a new shirt, I always get paint on them.” She waved Reko off.

“I still crashed into you…let me pay for the paint!” She replied enthusiastically.

“It’s ok! The professor bought me these, no money out of my pocket!” The girl waved her hand more.

Reko frowned, she still felt bad about running into her, probably hurting herself in the process, “Then,” Reko started, holding her hand out again, “Let me buy you a coffee, as an apology for running into you.”

The other girl finally met her eyes for the first time, Reko tried not to get lost in them, “U-Um, ok…but I won’t take it as payment! Think of it as…hanging out?”

Reko had to stop herself from asking if it was a date, she nodded, “Deal. I’m Reko, by the way.”

The girl smiled softly and took her hand, “I’m Nao!”
