Summary
The Straw Hats fail to defeat Arlong when it comes down to the wire, their fates left unconfirmed in wake of violence. However, their struggle was not without purpose, majority of the fishmen are slaughtered and Arlong's closest confidants are buried. Left handicapped and mutilated by his battle and not willing to lose his one remaining prized asset, he gives Nami an ultimatum she was unable to refuse: Loyalty for mercy on her people.
In the years that pass by, she clings to survival and attempts to grow a new orchard, figuratively.
Parallel to her, Arlong mellows out against his will.
