Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

“Is that all?” Bad slams the truck doors.

“It better be, I’m about to collapse with all this work. Thanks again for the help Bad.” Foolish rolls his shoulders back, in an attempt to relieve the pressure, weighing him down like a ton of bricks.

“You're welcome, I think you should give me a box of cupcakes to compensate for my time you know.” Bad says mischievously, mouth pressed into a line in order to prevent the giggles from spilling out.

“Well I could- wait a second! No I don’t think I will now, you’re just trying to get free cupcakes you fucker!” Foolish exclaims triumphantly and walks into his newly furnished bakery.

It doesn't feel quite as homey as the previous one back in his hometown, he will admit that, but with the new expansion, hopefully he would be able to commit to this baking thing full-time now that he had the proper equipment and everything.

“Language you muffinhead! And of course I deserve the cupcakes, especially with all the hard work I did to help you.” Bad chastises Foolish, and follows him into the bakery.

Foolish, being absolutely prepared for Bad’s response, whips around and is about to argue back at Bad, but stops in his tracks.

Is that someone peeking through the blinds of the bakery at the opposite side of the street? The man was about his height, with a plum colour shirt, and a black apron, his hair was slightly wavy. But his most striking features had to be his eyes, they shone an almost curious amethyst colour.

But just as quickly as the head had peaked out, it was gone again.

He was fully aware of his pastry-obsessed neighbour, and had even planned on making his matcha cream cheese cookies that were famous (among his family) and gift it to his neighbour and had even planned a future collaboration with them. But that's for future Foolish to worry about.

Vegetta is yanked back from his spot from the window.

“Do you see him? Is he cute? Or ugly? Or does he look like a terrible baker?” Roier immediately starts bombarding him with numerous questions about the golden skinned man they (he) was spying on.

“I don't know, he was wearing a beige shirt and a hat. I wonder if he's a good baker.” Vegetta murmurs as Roier continues listing possible character traits of the man from across the street.

If it wasn't for the fact that they were rivals, Vegetta would even consider asking that man out. Or more like a boy, he looked at least a couple of years younger than him, but he supposes the youthful curiosity makes him more attractive. Rivals. Vegetta has to remind himself. There is no way Vegetta is going to have his bakery overshadowed by a newcomer.

“Wait, what if we send him some baked goods as like a welcome gift?” Vegetta chuckles, “Yes i think that's a great idea, surely the pastries will show him that we are the better bakery. What an excellent idea.”

“Well that wasn't what i meant, we wouldn't want to scare the poor guy away,” Roier tries to reason with Vegetta, but the purple haired man is already muttering to himself about how the baker opposite from them is going to move because of a box of cookies.

“Leo!” Vegetta exclaims suddenly, like he just had an idea sprouted in his head. Leo comes rushing out of the kitchen, with a huge grin and cookie batter hands that she was trying to keep out of sight from her dad.

Vegetta sighs, ignoring the fact that his daughter was once again likely elbow deep into the cookie batter and just hoped that she would not get sick from it.

“Papa!” Leo let out a happy squeal, running into his arms as he lifted her up and rested her on his hips.

Vegetta smiles at Leo, amused. He could never be angry at his little girl, and supports her against him as he uses his other hand to take a container and fill it up with different baked goods. When he is done, he passes it over to Leo and sets her down.

“Leo, I need you to do something very very important, you need to give this to the baker on the other side of the street after school and make sure to tell him it's from us.” Vegetta tells her sternly, and Leo nods back and squirms to be let down.

Roier quickly gestures for Leo to go to school before she's late, “C’mon Leo let’s go! Bye bye Vegetta.” Roier moves Leo’s hand back and forth to imitate a waving motion to Vegetta as they rush out.

“Pa! I have a new best friend!” Leo rushes in with so much excitement that her cheeks are painted a vibrant cherry red, likely from running all the way home, with how she is sweating, and most likely also from her elation of having a friend.

And it also takes Vegetta a second to process what his daughter has said, as he helps her remove her bag and shoes before letting her step into the living room.

Don't get him wrong, he is equally if not more excited that his beloved Leo has made a friend, especially with her introverted personality and tendency to not open up to strangers. He feels a sense of warm pride pulsing in his chest, he cannot believe that Leo had given someone a chance and made a friend.

“His name is Foolich, and he loves baking, and playing ‘dress up’ with me and dancing and playing video games-” Vegetta is desperately trying to process all these new information about Leos new best friend.

His brain starts churning out ideas of potential playdates, ‘Foolich’ apparently loves baking which is amazing! He and Leo can bake together in Vegeta’s bakery, but honestly, Vegetta is not one to judge, but what kind of name is ‘Foolich’?

“-and i think you would both be best friends! Since you both own bakeries and LOVE to bake,” Leo finally finishes her ramble and smiles so wide up at Vegetta that he can see her tooth gap, where she had lost her first tooth last weekend.

Vegetta is almost distracted with how endearing Leo looks, before his head snaps up after processing all the information Leo had just dumped on him.

“Wait, he owns a bakery?” Who was this ‘Foolich’ guy?

“Si, pa and bakes just as well as you do! You have to meet him and then we all can be friends!” Leo is once again grinning, excited at the prospect of Vegetta meeting her friend.

And “Oh no,” Vegetta whispers to himself. He had not seen this coming, his daughter doesn’t usually go up talking to strangers so he had assumed that she would just pass the box to the baker (Foolich, his mind supplied), but somehow he had coerced Leo to be friends.

But as he looks at Leo’s beaming smile, he can’t help but let a smaller fond smile back at Leo, “That’s great Leo”

And this is surely a cause of spoiling his girl, because now he can’t bear to scare away his daughters best friend Foolich. Well- surely Leo doesn't need to know that he's trying to intimidate 'Foolich' into leaving.
