Work Text:

It was a lazy sunny day in the park. They had gone out to lunch and decided to have ice cream for dessert. They had been walking around enjoying their treats for a while when Aziraphale complained:

"I wanted to sit by the pond, but all the benches are taken"

"Why don't you just miracle a need to be somewhere else on the people's brains?" answered Crowley

"Oh, everyone seems to be having such a good time, it would be mean to make them leave"

"Well, we could just sit on the grass. Loads of people are doing it" Crowley said, gesturing around

A giddy smile appeared on Aziraphale's face as he started moving towards the grass, as if he was doing something mildly illegal. He sat down with his legs stretched out in front of him. Then Crowley didn't so much lay down, as gracefully collapsed next to him, stretching back with his arms supporting his head.
Aziraphale looked at him, slightly puzzled.

"It's more comfortable than just sitting... And I can do some cloud watching" replied Crowley.

Aziraphale awkwardly laid back, with his arms folded across his belly.

Crowley stretched up his arm and pointed at a cloud "That one looks like a dog"

"Oh, I see it!" said Aziraphale "and that one looks like a grumpy face"

They stayed like that for a while, pointing out the different shapes. As time passed, the clouds started looking a lot more defined. There was a perfectly drawn swan, a very precise and svelte Siamese cat and what resembled a lot like a plate of crepes, or maybe quesadillas. It was hard to get the minute details right.

"That one looks like you!" Said Crowley, laughing

"Nonsense! My nose is not that big!"

"Yeah, it is! Well, actually, no," Crowley turned his head to look at Aziraphale "It's bigger!" And then turned back to the sky, wiggling a finger at the cloud to make its nose disproportionately longer and wider.

"Very funny" said Aziraphale, unimpressed. He reached up and playfully slapped Crowley's hand down. Aziraphale fixed the shape of the cloud's nose and proceeded to make the eyes smaller too.

"No no no no no, you don't have beady eyes!" Crowley complained in an outraged manner and tried to fix them, but Aziraphale was having none of it

"I certainly don't have beady eyes, but they are definitely smaller than that!" and tried to shrink the eyes again, but accidentally also made the forehead bigger

"You are ruining my masterpiece!" Crowley whined, waving his hand about, trying to put everything back in place, but it wasn't working very well.

Aziraphale grabbed his hand "Better stop now Crowley, soon somebody is going to notice the clouds moving in a most unnatural way" Their hands fell together to their sides

"Fine! The natural clouds are more fun to watch anyway"

They laid there quietly for a while. When their hands had reached the ground, their fingers had touched ever so slightly. As the seconds passed the touch became more and more concrete. Crowley then stretched out his fingers and intertwined them against Aziraphale's. The Angel returned the touch, accommodating Crowley's fingers, which then moved slowly to caress Aziraphale's.

They weren't usually loving to each other. And when it happened it usually came in the form of doing each other favours or something like Crowley's outrage at Aziraphale not knowing he has beautiful eyes. Sometimes they would engage in a bit of hand-holding. But that was usually when one of them needed some comfort after having had a problem with heaven or hell.

So it was new that this was happening on such a nice occasion. It was like that wonderful human expression, the cherry on the cake.

Aziraphale moved his hand to grasp Crowley's, again intertwining their fingers, feeling the electricity run between them. Crowley gave his hand a slight squeeze

"We should do this more often" suggested Crowley

"Yes... I quite like this cloud watching" Aziraphale said feigning ignorance

"Yes, cloud watching..." Crowley agreed and pulled Aziraphale's hand to his chest, grasping it with both hands. He wasn't in the mood to pretend the conversation was about something else. Aziraphale was failing miserably at pretending to be relaxed.

"Seriously, this is nice, isn't it? Holding hands, touching..." asked Crowley.

"Yes... I suppose it is..." Aziraphale tried to be nonchalant

"You suppose it is? Do you want me to let go?" Crowley asked, mildly annoyed.

"NO, no, I would not. This is indeed very nice. Although my arm is bent at a weird angle. May I?" Aziraphale asked, then pulled back his hand, turned to his side to face Crowley, and placed his other hand on his chest. Crowley promptly held it again. Much more comfortable.

With his head propped up on his other hand, Aziraphale allowed himself to look, nay, admire Crowley. The lines on the corners of his mouth, the dimple on the chin, the wrinkles on the corners of his eyes, which were still hidden behind his sunglasses. As usual, Aziraphale's face was an open book. He looked like the textbook definition of smitten and had no trouble admitting to himself that he felt like one of the characters in a romantic novel.

"You look like you're about to kiss me" teased Crowley

"Maybe I am"

Aziraphale leaned over Crowley and removed his sunglasses. They looked into each other's eyes. It was nice to be able to plainly admire Crowley's eyes without pretending it was just regular conversational eye contact. He made a mental note of how the shapes around his pupils looked like the nebulae from Hubble Telescope photographs.

He lowered his head slightly, just enough for their noses to touch, and slightly rubbed them together. And then their lips met. If he had found the touch of Crowley's fingers against his electrical, he had no words to describe what this kiss felt like. It reached deep into him, making all of his body tense up, but in a good way. He felt a spreading warmth in his core, and a fullness in his heart. He could suddenly understand the point of every romantic comedy Crowley sometimes made him watch.

Their lips parted.

"Yes... We really should do more cloud watching," said Crowley, pulling Aziraphale back.
