Chapter Text
“Jojo-” Kakyoin interrupted himself with a laugh “Jojo you suck at this game."
“Shut up,” Jotaro mumbled but a smile plastered his face as he slowly pushed the buttons of the video game, looking more confused every time the character moved. “Ugh I just don’t get how this game works, whats even the point of it?”
Kakyoin began to speak “The point is-” he was quickly interrupted by the sound of their home phone ringing, the two of them looked over. Jotaro slowly got up and began walking towards the phone.
“Hello? Kujo and Kakyoin Residence.” Jotaro spoke into the phone, Kakyoin sat patiently and waited for him as their game was paused, smiling to himself. He’d tried to get Jotaro to play Super Mario, but the boy seemed to just not get it.
“Are you sure?” The franticness in Jotaro’s voice startled Kakyoin, he looked over to see all the color completely drained from his face. “Yeah I can come over as soon as possible… are you really sure?” Jotaro was trembling “You don’t want me? Why?” He looked so defeated “Okay yeah, that's fine. Bye.” Jotaro carefully placed the phone back on the hook.
Jotaro slumped down against the wall, he ran his hands through his hair and let out a quiet ‘fuck’ as he did it.
“Are you okay? What happened?” Kakyoin carefully got up, approaching the man like a wild animal. Jotaro looked at Kakyoin with defeated eyes and quickly walked over towards him, surprising the smaller man with a hug.
“Jotaro?? Are you okay? What's happening? This isn’t like you.” Kakyoin panicked feeling his face get red. Jotaro mumbled something inaudible into his shirt “What was that? I can’t hear you.”
Kakyoin felt tears begin to soak his shirt as Jotaro held him close and finally muttered the words “I made a mistake.” He was shaking like a leaf.
“Jotaro, whatever you did I’m sure it can’t be that bad, I won't judge you, c’mon it is me, I’m your best friend.” Kakyoin gave him a smile.
“It’s a girl.”
“Oh? A-a girl?” Kakyoin silently cursed himself for sounding like an idiot and stuttering.
“Yeah, you know Maria Delgado?” Jotaro looked up at him, finally meeting his eyes.
“Of course, I know her, she's the talk of the campus. She’s studying to be a biologist but has a modeling gig on the side, she's got looks and brains.”
“We’ve been uh… getting together for the past month or so now-” Jotaro cut himself off, his face flushed with embarrassment.
Kakyoin looked at him with wide eyes, obviously confused, Jotaro didn’t seem like the type for a casual hookup “And she broke it off? You don’t usually get upset over girls like this.”
“No worse,” Jotaro replied
“How can it be worse?” Kakyoin awkwardly laughs, hiding whatever negative emotions he might feel right now in his voice. "You'll get over it, there's plenty of fish in the s-"
“She's pregnant.” Jotaro said, promptly cutting Kakyoin off.
Kakyoin froze “You- You’re kidding right?”
“And she’s sure it’s mine- she said she hasn’t been with anyone else-”
“Jotaro, hold on, has she been to the doctor? How does she know?” Kakyoin practically yelled across the small apartment.
Jotaro detached himself from Kakyoin, walking over and seating himself on the couch “She’s taken five tests, all positive, I’m the only guy she’s slept with in months.”
“So if she hasn’t been to the doctors she doesn’t really know!” Kakyoin retorted
“She’s going next week, she doesn’t want me to come,” Jotaro replied, looking defeated, and depressed.
“You- oh my god you cannot be fucking serious right now?” Kakyoin huffed from across the room at Jotaro “She’s seriously not gonna let you even- that's such fucking bullshit, we are walking to her apartment right now!”
“It's fine, if it's what she wants, it’s what she wants,” Jotaro said with a gloomy look on his face, staring down at his hands.
“That would be true if this was about a fucking sandwich or something- but not this!” Kakyoin angrily stomped around the room. Jotaro clenched his jeans tighter, his knuckles turning a pale white and he felt tears begin to form in the corner of his eyes.
“It's fine Nori, I really don’t mind.” He sheepishly muttered not daring to meet his eyes.
Kakyoin's eyes softened as he looked over him, he slowly went and slumped down next to him on the couch, slinging an arm around Jotaro, rubbing circles in his back as he comforted him “I know this must be scary but… I’m really proud of you for taking it so well this far and not getting angry, and you know I’ll always be here for you right?”
Jotaro shrugged “Yeah yeah I know, it is just- it’s fucking scary alright… I don’t know what to do, I am in a foreign country, with no family but you for four hours and I’m gonna be a fucking dad because I made a stupid mistake.”
“I’d hardly call it stupid, your baby mama is very pretty.” Kakyoin joked, earning a slight chuckle from Jotaro. “And hey, I know you're gonna be a great dad no matter what happens, you seem like you will be.”
“I seem like I would be. Very reassuring Nori” Jotaro chuckled
“Hey! I’m trying to comfort you and all I’m getting is flack!” Kakyoin jokingly pouted, punching Jotaro in the arm, Jotaro smiled at him.
Jotaro smiled for a moment before turning to Kakyoin “I really want to see them when they are born, I’m so scared but I will still love them no matter what… that is if she’s really pregnant”
Kakyoin's eyes lit up, he stood still for a moment before wrapping Jotaro in a hug “You are so sweet sometimes, makes me laugh”
“Shut up” Jotaro responded, groaning not daring to let his arms hug the redhead back.
“Fine, but only he you go over there and tell her you want to see your baby, she can’t keep them from you. That’s not fair.” Kakyoin crossed his arms
“Fine, but not because you told me to, I was gonna do it anyway.” Jotaro stared him down.
“Okay big guy, I totally believe you” Kakyou laughed, a laugh that Jotaro found beautifully obnoxious and ugly at the same time.
–
“I told my mom today, Maria’s finally calming down a bit, she's really scared as well,” Jotaro mumbled.
“Oh, I see, how did your mom react?” Kakyoin questioned
“She was really excited, a bit surprised at first but she’s gonna fly out to meet Maria and then again a few weeks before the baby's born to help us out with everything since she knows what she's doing, I have to tell Gramps this weekend.”
“Oh that's good, I miss Holly too, it’ll be good to have her around again, how did your dad react?”
“He wasn’t there, Mom said he hasn’t come home in months, just left the occasional voicemail.” Jotaro seemed to be getting angry before he took a deep breath “At least I know what father I don’t wanna be like.”
Kakyoin let out an awkward laugh “Good on you Jojo, I’m so proud of you, you know that right?”
“Yeah yeah, I know.” Jotaro shrugged it off, before gradually getting closer to Kakyoin, Kakyoin pulled him into a tight hug which Jotaro seemed to be very happy about as he excitedly hug backed. “I’m excited… is that weird to say? I’m twenty-one as of four months ago, I barely have anything in my life sorted and am not prepared for a baby at all, but I already want to see my baby.”
“That’s normal, I think, you’re gonna be great Jojo.” Kakyoin pulled him closer, his own heart starting to speed up.
“God Nori, I hope you’re right.”
-
“It’s a girl.” Jotaro's face practically lit up as he spoke the words holding up the sonogram for Kakyoin “I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited in my life and yet also terrified.” Jotaro practically giggled “Me and Maria are moving in together for the first few months at least before we work something out.”
Kakyoin's heart practically broke at that last statement, It had broken when he found out that Jotaro had been casually seeing a girl and not telling him, even though it had never been a real relationship, it was nothing more than casual hooking up.
He had a secret crush on his best friend, for years. Maybe for a while, he could have believed it was mutual but now he wasn’t sure, Jotaro was presumably straight. And he seemed to be starting a proper relationship with his Maria girl who Kakyoin had only met twice.
“So you guys are together now?” Kakyoin said, trying to hide the jealousy in his voice.
“No!” Jotaro immediately replied, “It is just for our little girl, then after that, we will figure it out from there.” He stopped for a moment “Should we be together?” Jotaro looked at him with a pained face.
“If you like her, then why not give it a shot?” Kakyoin shrugged, he felt his heart clenched.
Jotaro sighed “That's the problem, I don’t, but she likes me but sometimes I think that if we were married this would be so much easier.”
“Woah buddy, marriage and a relationship are two very different things, Hold your horses.” Kakyoin sighed a little bit in relief “You don’t like her romantically at all?” He questioned.
“I mean, not really, I only really got with her in the first place because she was decent-looking and didn’t annoy me as much as the other girls. I just needed to blow off some steam at the time.” Jotaro buried his head in his hands.
“No offense but that's a stupid reason to hook up with someone, you kinda lead her on.”
“I know, I’m an idiot.” He muttered “But we’re good friends now and I think she understands my feelings. She’s a lot nicer than I expected after this all, I think she was a bit stressed out too.”
“She’s very beautiful you know? Any guy would been over the moon to have tied down someone as beautiful as Maria Delgado, she’s practically a supermodel.” Kakyoin laughed.
“I know, she is beautiful but it’s just that-” Jotaro stuttered trying to get the words out “Well me and Maria are really good friends anyway so it doesn’t matter actually” He waved Kakyoin off
“It’s just weird, If it was any other guy they’d be so happy she wanted to be with them, I can’t get why you are not?” Kakyoin raised an eyebrow “Is there someone else?”
“It’s nothing alright? Just drop it.” Jotaro’s voice became increasingly annoyed.
“Jotaro are you okay? I just don’t get it why you-”
“Drop it!” Jotaro sneered through his teeth, “If you think she's so beautiful, you can date her, now leave me the fuck alone.” Jotaro stomped off, slamming his bedroom door shut behind him.
Kakyoin stood in stunned silence in the kitchen, staring at Jotaro’s bedroom door intensely, what the hell was that?
–
“It’s only two weeks away, how do you feel?” Joseph said as the three of them stood off from the rest of the group at the baby shower “I know I was terrified when my little Holly came along, I can’t imagine how you’d feel.”
“Scared, excited, I can’t wait to see her to be honest.” Jotaro smiled to himself.
“Trust me Mr Joestar, we have gotten all the fear out of the way at this point, although some of it remains that to be expected.” Kakyoin chuckled, Joseph chuckled alongside him, and Jotaro gave them both dirty looks.
“Jotaro!” Maria made her way towards him holding up a little plush of a starfish “It’s so cute don’t you think? You’re working with Starfish right now and I just thought it was so cute for our little niña!” She excitedly bounced towards him.
“I like it, it’s cool.” He casually responded, as she happily twirled the plush around.
“Maria, you must be excited to get the baby out, must be in a bit of pain about now.” Joseph laughed.
Maria giggled in response “Si, I miss my cigarettes Mr Joestar, but I think I will love our baby a bit more.”
Joseph laughed in response “Better have the most of sleep before it arrives because trust me you will not be getting much of it afterward!”
“Okay Mr Joestar, I will take your advice!” She laughed, Jotaro seemed to smile at the sight of her laughing “I’m gonna cut some cake, Jotaro would you like to join me?” she ushered towards the door.
“Okay, tell me if feel tired though, I’ll kick everyone out,” Jotaro muttered, Marina giggled at him and playfully punched him in the bicep. The two quickly walked through the sliding glass doors towards a massive pink cake with the words ‘Joylne’ written on it in bright blue frosting.
“Kakyoin…” Joseph began catching the redhead's attention.
“What is it Mr Joestar?” Kakyoin cocked an eyebrow at him, confused at the sudden attention.
“I know you’re in love with my grandson. You need to tell him before it's too late.” Joseph finished, taking a big gulp from a soda he had sitting on the table.
Kakyoin sighed “It’s not mutual, it’d just make things awkward between us, Also I don’t wanna mess up what he has going with Maria, he seems to really like her.” Kakyoin slumped his shoulders, refusing to make eye contact with the older man.
“Kakyoin have I ever told you the story of when I took Jotaro out for his very first legal Drink? Now that I’m thinking about it, that only happened a few months before this whole thing went down.” Joseph chuckled thinking about fond memories.
“I don’t think you ever did Mr Joestar.” Kakyoin replied
“Well I promised Jotaro I would keep it a secret but, I’ve never been very good at that.” He chuckled, sending a wink Kakyoin's way.
Kakyoin wore a confused expression as the older man talked “He confessed a lot of things to me while shit-faced, not all of them pretty, but I’m not here to talk about his repressed emotions here.” Joseph laughed.
“No you see Kakyoin, or should I call you Noriaki? Since you are practically family now.”
“That would be an honor Mr Joestar.” Kakyoin beamed
“It’s Joseph now, but anyway you see my lovely dark brooding grandson, is well, very gay.”
Kakyoin's eyes widen to the size of plates “Joseph, don’t mess with me like this. He was casually sleeping with a girl for a month, there is no way he’s gay.”
“Oh trust me, my boy, he is very gay. As soon as I heard about the baby my biggest fear came to light, that he was once again suppressing his emotions, he’s a bit ashamed of himself.”
“He is?” Kakyoin looked like a deer in headlights “W-well why didn’t he tell me then? I’m his best friend! I should know these things, for god sake we live together!” Kakyoin got increasingly angry at Joseph's words.
“I don’t think he meant to tell anyone, and you of all people should know how hard it is to come out, especially when he didn’t accept himself.” Joseph Shrugged “But I gotta say it was entertaining to hear him confess he was gay.” The even if it was obvious part was implied.
“Joseph, even if he was gay it doesn’t mean he’s interested in me, I mean we are best friends and all but that doesn’t mean shit. He’s got a baby on the way in two weeks, I’m the least of his concerns.”
“I don’t think you are, but you should tell him before someone convinces him to marry that woman. She's lovely and I can tell their close friends want them married but, he obviously doesn’t love her back.”
“I know that I got a good scolding from Jotaro about it a few months ago when I asked him about it.” Kakyoin sighed.
“It’s a touchy subject for him. Trust me when I brought up a shotgun wedding he freakout and practically ran home in the pouring rain. Don’t think he wants this but with Maria and her family trying to convince him, it might actually end up happening.”
“Alright Joseph, I’ll try.”
–
“Jojo… she looks just like you,” Kakyoin whispered as the newborn sat peacefully in her father's arms.
Jotaro had tears streaming down his face as he spoke “She’s so beautiful Nori… I love her so much, I have never felt this way before but I’d do anything for her Nori. She's so precious.”
Kakyoin rested his hand on Jotaro's shoulder “I told you that you were a softie, but I can’t blame you, She's so amazing Jotaro, and she’s only been alive for a day.” Kakyoin rubbed his shoulder, comforting him “How’s Maria?”
“Tired, she’s sleeping in the hospital room right now, We’re taking her home tomorrow,” Jotaro replied, eyes trained on the little bundle of joy in front of him.
“Hey,” Kakyoin wrapped an arm around him “You know you can call me anytime right?” He let out a slight chuckle “I’m happy to help you guys out any way I can.”
He felt Jotaro tremble like he was about to cry again “Thank you, Nori, you're the only person I trust in this world.” Jotaro leaned himself slightly against the shorter man
“I’m always at your side Jojo, through everything, I promise.” He smiled brightly at him.
“You are my second favorite person, Nori, only second to my Joylne…” Jotaro went back to looking at his baby “I can’t believe she’s finally here Nori, she's so beautiful.”
“Yes, Jojo, I know you’ve only said it about one hundred times. But I guess I have to agree.”
“See? No one can resist our Joestar charm right Joylne?” Jotaro poked a finger in front of her, the newborn reached up slowly and weakly grabbed the end of his finger. “Nori, Nori look at her.”
“I’m looking” Kakyoin replied, smiling from ear to ear, she truly was precious.
–
“Nori I need your advice on something,” Jotaro said, it was one of the rare times Joylne was sleeping, Maria was off at a class and Kakyoin had decided to come over.
“Yeah?” Kakyoin innocently replied taking a sip of water.
Jotaro stayed silent for a second “Should I marry Maria?”
Kakyoin choked on his water before blurting out “What?! You- You want to marry her?”
Jotaro looked away “We have a baby, her family wants it. Mine wouldn’t complain and it’d just be easier right? Seems like the right thing I should do.”
Kakyoin placed an arm on his shoulder “Jojo, you are my best friend if you want to marry Maria I will always be at your side to support you.” His heart broke a little at his own sentence “But you shouldn’t if you don’t love her because someone else will come along, someone who you will love for the rest of your life no matter what and who loves Joylne and Maria just as much and accepts them as well, that's what's right Jojo.”
“But what if I found someone like that but they will never love me back?”
Kakyoin turned to him “Jojo who is it?” he quickly got the words out, ‘Please just say it, say you love me he thought to himself but didn’t dare to even mutter the words.
“I-I can’t tell you!” Jotaro stuttered
“Jojo…”
“I don’t wanna talk about this anymore” Jotaro muttered
“Alright, if you say so,” Kakyoin said, completely and utterly defeated.
