"It's only a broomstick, Percy."
Percy sighed. "I know, but…"
How could he explain? He had spent his entire childhood wishing that he had been like his brothers. They were all athletic and popular. He had never had a real interest in Quidditch, much preferring his studies. He met Audrey's bright blue eyes and sighed.
"I want Lucy to have the things I never had. If she wants to learn Quidditch, then she'll have the best bloody broomstick we can buy. If she wants to study dragons, then she can. If she wants to gallivant off around the world as an Auror, or Curse Breaker, or anything else, then she can do that as well."
Audrey smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling. Leaning close, she placed a hand gently on his chest.
"Percy, I know. I understand where you're coming from. I want the best for our girls as well, believe me." When Percy opened his mouth, she held a finger up, silencing him quickly. "But, buying her the most expensive racing broom on the market simply because it's expensive isn't quite what I had in mind."
Taking a deep breath, Percy let it out slowly. Audrey was right, of course. He did tend to lose his mind a little when it came to the girls. Nodding slowly, he wrapped an arm around Audrey's waist and pulled her close.
"Where would I be without you?"
"Oh, miserable and crying in a gutter somewhere, no doubt."
Percy met Audrey's eyes and, seeing the sparkle there again, began to laugh. He leant down to kiss her just as the shop assistant arrived to help with their order.
