seal your fates in stone (unlikely message)

Summary:

After MCC Pride, the KREW weren't planning on seeing Technoblade, or Tommy, or Wilbur any time soon.

One afternoon and a message later, they find themselves on MCC Island with an offer to practice.

Notes:

sooooo this is only because I want to start posting weekly and also because I need some variety in what i write LMAO
(and lets not pretend that I didn't write this sequel to An Encounter solely because of that, I definitely wrote this on a self-indulgent whim lmao <3)

Work Text:

“Aha.”

Draco looked over to see Funneh gripping her communicator tightly, her lips drawn in a terrified smile. “What’s wrong now?” he groans, walking over and leaning on his sister’s shoulder.

“Well. You remember MCC way back then?”

“The one back in 2021?” Gold appeared suddenly, striding past them to reach their storage area. Once she’s got what she needs, she makes her way back to them. “I think we all remember that.”

Draco shudders as Funneh’s eye twitches; yes, they remember exactly what Gold was pertaining to. Funneh clears her throat, and, shakily, goes on, “Well. Y’see. Technoblade, the pro player Technoblade , has, uh. Sent me a message.”

To say her siblings exploded on her was an understatement.

They arrive on MCC Island, nerves shot through the roof and dread pooling in their stomachs.

It’s not like they think Technoblade would act all high and mighty on them! He was a pretty cool guy when they didn’t have an audience watching their every move. It’s just that they can’t believe someone like Technoblade would be willing to train them (Draco and Rainbow), and because he’s still lowkey intimidating to them (Funneh and Gold).

Which is why they brought Lunar along!

To be fair to Lunar, they didn’t want to leave her behind as they practiced, but Lunar was also 90% their group’s intimidation factor, so. They were hoping that it would match, somehow, Technoblade’s own.

Lunar only agreed to come to support her siblings and to try the games she’s seen them play, but promises nothing on the Technoblade part. (Funneh accuses her of abandonment and betrayal, which Lunar denies.)

It’s probably not that hard to see that they’re all scared witless, which is probably why Technoblade greets them with hard laughter.

“You guys look like you’re expecting to be murdered.” He grins at them, and Gold offers meekly, “We’re at the very least expecting to be wiped the floor with.”

Technoblade guffaws at that, before noticing Lunar and amusedly observing, “Hello there, didn’t think I’d also be meeting the final member of KREW.”

“We usually come as the whole package.” Lunar grins back at him, the response coming out as natural as if talking with her siblings.

“Well, it’s great to meet you nonetheless,” Technoblade responds good-naturedly, before saying, “Since MCC Underdogs are coming up, what games are you guys planning on practicing the most?”

“Wait.” Draco stumbles as Technoblade starts to head towards the games. “You’re actually going to train us??”

“Yeah.” Technoblade casts a glance towards them, a smile morphing into one of confusion as he saw all of their awestruck faces. “Why do you guys look like you weren’t expecting that—”

“Well!” Funneh shouts running to walk with Technoblade side-by-side. “You were on a rival team last time!”

“And, no offense, we were wholly expecting you to be all intimidating,” Rainbow offers, not as explosive as her sister.

“Wow.” Technoblade blinks, before shrugging. “Guess that’s the kind of vibe I give off.”

“Well, at least we know you’re cool now.” Lunar pops up beside Draco with a cheshire grin.

Technoblade snorts at that. “Oh my poor reputation.”

“Happens to the best of us.” Draco’s starting to sound more like the gremlin he’s usually known for, his smile matching Lunar’s own.

Technoblade only shakes his head in response, a begrudging smile edging on his face. “Sure, whatever you say. How about we get to practicing now we’ve got all that aside?”

They all agreed, and started talking about the different games they could start preparing for.

Funneh groaned in frustration as she failed to crit. Again.

“You’ll get it,” Technoblade encouraged, edging her elbow into the right placement. “Try again.”

Funneh tried, and whooped in success as stars appeared on the dummy she was training on. Technoblade gave her a nod in pride, and turned to where the rest of KREW were resting. They were cheering Funneh on, looking just as ecstatic as she did.

As Technoblade called Draco to spar with Funneh, Lunar asked him, “Do you do this often with other people?”

“What, train them?” Lunar nods and Technoblade chuckles. “No, usually I’m the one being trained.”

“Wow.” Lunar gapes at him. “Well— I guess it makes sense. All that skill has to come from training, doesn’t it?”

“Bingo.” Technoblade grins at her. “But I do practice. Usually with, and I know you’re probably familiar with them, Tommy, Wilbur, and Phil.”

“Right.” Lunar nods, tapping her cheek thoughtfully. “Tommy, loud kid, swears, Wilbur, with glasses and the one Draco offended.”

“You’re right about Tommy but Wilbur’d probably bury himself alive if he heard you say that.” Technoblade laughed, a raucous and wild thing. It garnered the attention of the other two sisters, who Lunar was going to wave away before Technoblade addressed them too. “You two are the oldest siblings?”

Lunar playfully groans as Gold and Rainbow laugh with smiles on their faces. “Don’t say it,” Lunar says despairingly. “Don’t ask them.”

Technoblade snickers, and proceeds to ask. “What’s it like for you guys?”

“Oh, boy.” Rainbow smirks. “Do I have the stories for you.”

“None about me, by the way,” Gold assures in her best innocent voice. “I am the best one.”

“She’s one of the family’s biggest spenders,” Lunar whispers conspiratorially to Technoblade. “Do not believe a word she says.”

“ARE WE TALKING ABOUT FAMILY SLANDER?!”

“You guys are s’posed to be sparring!”

“Ohh, yeah.” Technoblade shakes his head at the Ace Race sign in front of them. “This one you gotta practice for, alright.”

“Pain.” Draco states miserably. “And suffering.”

“This is for KF,” Gold says, sounding like she’s reminding herself more than her teammates. “This is for them.”

“You guys got this.” Lunar tells them cheerfully.

“Rich, you’re not even participating!” Funneh shot Lunar a dirty look, at which Lunar cackled.

“We’ll just try our best, improve from there!” Rainbow tried to sound optimistic.

“I’m just gonna go in,” Funneh mutters, sighing and jogging onto the first speed pad.

Technoblade shrugs and follows behind her, catching up within seconds. The others follow suit, and thus begins the arduous practice for Ace Race.

Though, in all fairness, they weren’t doing so badly. Technoblade gave them helpful tips and they adapted to it quickly. Draco and Lunar were showing surprising progress, to which Technoblade joked that Lunar should be allowed to join next time. To his surprise, all of them sounded eager to accept that, with the exception of Lunar who quickly paled and said, “That— it’s fine, really!”

They really were a weird sort. Not that Technoblade isn’t familiar with, but. It’s amusing.

After around three rounds, the KREW collapse on a bench nearby, groaning and cradling their sore muscles. Technoblade still stands over them, a smile slotted in place as he watches. Funnhe notices and glares. “What?”

“Nah.” Technoblade waves her off. “Just thinkin’ about how much you guys need to improve.”

“Oh, thanks .” Draco groans, leaning back and pressing his hands to his eyes. “Like I needed to hear that .”

“You do,” Technoblade tells him, unimpressed.

Draco only grumbles while Lunar sighs and agrees. “We’re all out of shape. You guys need a wake-up call.”

“Excuse you!” Funneh exclaimed in disbelief. “We’ve been doing nothing but parkour!”

“But not the Ace race type, I’m guessing,” Technoblade muses, tapping his chin. Funneh rolls her eyes and grumbles along with Draco, crossing her arms.

“If we’re being perfectly honest,” Gold says feebly. “We didn’t even know how to use elytra and tridents. We, uh, didn’t even know you could crit until today.”

Rainbow hisses at Gold for that, and Technoblade eyes them, unbelievingly. “You’re joking,” he starts slowly, but his eyes widen upon hearing their lack of response. “You’re kidding me!”

“Well, now you’ve offered to mentor us.” Funneh says stubbornly, looking up at him. “Can’t back out now.”

“I—” Technoblade stops before guffawing. “Gods, you sound like Tommy.”

“Loud British kid who swears?” Draco asks, leaning forward. Then, with the most gremlin-like smile he could manage, he replies, “Oh, she’s quite possibly worse .”

“Excuse you!” Funneh shouts, turning on Draco. “Who keeps slipping when we make videos?!”

“Rainbow.” Both Draco and Gold answer innocently, at which Rainbow explodes on them, exasperatingly.

“It was five times!”

Technoblade laughed as they argued, and pretty soon, the arguments quickly dissolved into laughter as well. “Oh man, you guys are a riot.” He wipes a tear from his eye. “I made a good choice contacting y—”

Technoblade was interrupted as a person smaller than him barreled into his stomach, yelling, “HEY TECHNO!” at the top of their lungs. Upon closer inspection, they figure out from the blond hair and yelling that this was Tommy.

“Rude.” Technoblade huffed, but patted Tommy’s head nonetheless. “I was talking to my mentees.”

“Aw, Blade.” Tommy grins up at him as he climbs to Technoblade’s shoulder, sitting comfortably. “I’m your original ment-or-ee! Give me some slack!”

Technoblade only shakes his head fondly as he begins to introduce him to the KREW, who were watching the interaction with amusement. “Tommy, this is the KREW, KREW, this is—”

“Oh!” Tommy exclaims pointing to them. “You’re them color-coded fuckers! Put ‘er here!”

Tommy stuck out his hand, and, Funneh being the closest to him, shook it with an unamused tone. “Nice to meet you, again.”

“Yeah.” Tommy looks at her proudly, before eagerly asking, “So, my advice? You took them, I’m guessing?”

“We haven’t had time to put it to use,” Funneh responds dryly as Draco shouts, “We don’t take color-coded as a compliment!”

Tommy gasps in offense at Funneh, but frowns slightly at Draco’s words. “Ah, sorry my friend!” Tommy stands on Technoblade’s shoulder to bow deeply, at which Technoblade grumbled but shifted in order to not topple his friend over. “I amend my previous statement.”

“Showboater,” Technoblade mutters in a low, fond tone.

“You used the word wrong,” Draco comments nonchalantly. Technoblade shoots him a look, but Draco’s focused on Tommy now. “But— uh, actually, we’re not that mad. Just don’t swear when we have an audience, I guess.”

Tommy nods. “Will do!” He then proceeds to slide down Technoblade’s arm—Technoblade only responded with a grunt as his arm was used as a slide—and stops just short in front of them with a grin. “Have you guys tried the PvP games yet?”

“I’ve shown them how to crit, is all,” Technoblade tells him, ruffling his hair. “A bit about strafing, you know.”

“Woah, you haven’t taught them a thing!” Tommy laughs, then tells the KREW good-naturedly, “I’m joking, by the way, there’s a lot more to MCC than just the PvP.”

Lunar snorts. “Oh yeah.” She says amusedly. “We need to up our game for the Ace Race types.”

“Oh, man .” Tommy groans, plopping down on the extra space between Lunar and Draco, Lunar scooting over to make space for the boy. “ Everyone hates Ace Race.”

Technoblade chuckles. “Tommy should know. He spends time with Wilbur the most .”

“Oh yeah!” Tommy grins. “Just to let you guys know, Wil’s coming over a bit later to hang. He might not join the practice, depending on the game you’re playing, but he’s been really looking forward to it. Phil might come later too!”

“Ah.” Draco pulled his collar nervously. “You don’t think he’s—”

“Oh he’d absolutely bring it up.” Tommy smiles at Draco, full of teeth. “It’s gonna be hilarious!”

“Ah.” Draco cleared his throat, before standing up. “I think I’ve had enough of sitting, actually. Let’s go try another game.”

“Oh, you guys should practice team communication.” Tommy stands up with Draco eagerly, gesturing with his hands. “That’s the most important bit.”

“Which game should we try playing then?” Rainbow stands as they pass her, walking slightly faster to keep up with Tommy and her brother.

The rest of KREW follow soon after, and Technoblade stays behind, just watching them with an amused tilt to his lips.

Tommy leads them to Survival Games—which the KREW barely win against Tommy and Technoblade (and even then, the pair had won several rounds before that)—and then to Battle Box, which fared way better than Survival Games.

“It’s like I told you!” Tommy says, in the midst of arguing with Technoblade on the strats they could use. “You have to make sure you don’t fall into your own trap!”

“But you can’t completely rely on just traps,” Technoblade scoffs.

“I’m not telling them that!” Tommy argues.

Nevertheless, they were both surprised when the KREW showed adeptness at Battle Box, Tommy laughing at them with disbelief and Technoblade congratulating them, a proud smile making its way to his face. Tommy later tells one of them, Rainbow, he recalls, that “Techno usually doesn’t show that much pride! You guys are definitely something special to him.”

“You say that almost like you aren’t.” Rainbow shakes her head, but her words are not without kindness. “He’s fond of you too.”

“Yeah, I know.” Tommy rolls his eyes. “He just doesn't show it in public.”

Later on, true to Tommy’s words, Wilbur joins them alongside an older man with hair similar to Tommy’s. “Woah!” Draco looks at the older man, contemplating. “I didn’t know we were going to meet your dad, Tommy!”

“Oh, fuck off.” Tommy elbows Draco in the side, grinning nonetheless.

Phil, the KREW soon learns, is their group’s self-proclaimed ‘dad’, and boy does Rainbow eagerly exchange stories of raising her siblings with him. The rest of them groan good-naturedly and jab at Rainbow and Phil all the same—“We can all attest that Rainbow swears more than we do!” “Phil’s canonically killed me once!”—as they make their way to the other games. Also true to Tommy’s words was the fact that Wilbur would nonstop bring up the incident during MCC Pride ‘21, at which Draco kept groaning and pointedly ignoring.

When they take a break from the practicing, Rainbow finds herself talking with Technoblade. “You really do care a lot about them,” Rainbow muses, drumming her fingers against the table.

Technoblade nods, humming as he thinks. “You noticed I don’t jab with them as much?”

“Yeah.” Rainbow chuckles. “But I can tell. It’s probably because we’re around, isn’t it?”

“I don’t fare so well in situations like that, yes.” Technoblade barks a laugh.

“From eldest to eldest, or in your case, in the dynamic .” Technoblade huffs at her amusedly as Rainbow puts emphasis on ‘dynamic’. “I get it. Y’know?”

“Yeah.” Technoblade leans back, something akin to contentment on his face.

Rainbow nods, just in acknowledgement really, and watches her siblings and Technoblade’s (plus Phil) interact.

“So, let me get this straight.” Tommy puts his hands up, looking quite flabbergasted in Funneh’s opinion. “We both have older siblings who blew up our homes???”

“Apparently!” Draco chimes in as Lunar and Funneh nod in solidarity. Tommy makes an exasperated noise.

“Did yours go insane too?!”

“We’d say Funneh did, a little,” Lunar comments, making a so-so gesture. “But Rainbow was just feeling a little explosive that day.”

“Hey!” Wilbur harrumphs, crossing his arms. “How come she gets that pass?!”

“Wil, mate, you quite literally lost your mind because you didn’t have full control,” Phil deadpans, cackling as Wilbur shoots him a dirty look.

“I would say it was because Funneh and Draco were driving me insane ,” Rainbow interjects, glaring playfully at Funneh and Draco, who were very pointedly ignoring Rainbow.

“Oh absolutely.” Technoblade nods, arms folded across his chest. “Little siblings drive you to the point of razing their hometowns to bedrock.”

Rainbow laughs at that as Funneh, Draco, and Tommy explode at them. Gold giggles and nonchalantly says, “Guess I’m the best sibling out of everyone!”

“You don’t get to talk, little miss I-Keep-Secrets-Under-My-Kitchen!” Funneh shoots at her, at which Gold gasps, outraged.

“It’s just a mine!”

“Under your restaurant ?!” Wilbur gapes at her.

“That’s not even mentioning the time Gold left us during a ghost mission.” Lunar snorts.

“We said we weren’t talking about that!”

At the end of the day, of course, they had to bid their farewells.

“Since me and Tech aren’t in Underdogs, we’re always willing to help out!” Tommy yells at them, waving enthusiastically.

“You could count me in, mate.” Phil smiles at them, arms folded across his chest. “I’d have to check up on the old schedule, though.”

Technoblade nods as Wilbur grumbles, “It was fun too, I guess.”

Then, Wilbur grins. “If there’s any more blowing up, feel free to call me!”

“It was great of you to have us!” Rainbow calls as Funneh nods her head vigorously.

“Thank you!” Funneh shouts, grinning and waving.

“Steer clear of blowing up nations!” Draco yells back to them.

“You guys were great to hang out with too!” Lunar adds. “If you want, we could invite you over to our private KrewCraft server!”

“That’d be great!” Technoblade says, his smile widening.

“Thank you for rooting for us!” Gold cheered, and the others followed her lead.

“Get back home safe!” Phil says to them, just as they disappear into the portal back to their private server.

When they’re home, Draco grins. “That was genuinely amazing. We should have them mentor us more often!”

Funneh laughs. “I’ll see if Techno would be willing,” she says amusedly, the nickname that Technoblade had told them to call him being used.

“Should we probably tell them that we’ll end up last anyways?” Gold says, a tinge of nervousness to her voice.

“I think they know that already.” Lunar calls from down the hall.

Rainbow shakes her head fondly. “It’s nice of them to root for us anyway.” She chuckles quietly.

True to form, during MCC Underdogs, the games were not lined up in their favor. Later, when they read the predictions and ‘what-could-have-been’ from the viewers, they realize that their best bets would’ve been PvP games, to their shock. Regardless, the SBI met them at the portal for MCC and congratulated them. Tommy was excitedly gushing about Funneh’s triple kill during Battle Box, meanwhile Technoblade was telling them that no matter what, he was proud of how they used their tips.

Afterwards, the KREW invites them to check out their KrewCraft server just to hang out (and to exhaust the adrenaline leftover from MCC), which they accept readily, and spend the rest of the day adventuring.

In all, it was a good handful of interactions between them all. Neither of them regret meeting during MCC Pride.

Notes:

I took Fay's "write something non angsty bean challenge GO" seriously. Because I genuinely DO need to write less hurt/comfort and angst 😭

Anyhow! this is now like. my challenge lol. Every week I need to write something short and sweet and add it to this series I like to call "Bean stop psychologically tormenting ur characters challenge GO" in honor of Fay, who is forever traumatized by my shenanigans lol

also its not talked about enough how good funneh was during battle box wtf!!! im so proud of them dude!!!! (also since I wasn't able to squeeze it in here, I MAY make a fic regarding how the KREW resorted to shenanigans halfway through MCCP21 LMFAOOOO)
